Ionizer
Traditionally, an air ionizer is installed in the basic configuration of Rational. It saturates the air with negative ions, which have a beneficial effect on the immune system. At the same time, it gives the feeling of being in nature - in the forest or near a waterfall.
Rotary Compressor GMCC
LESSAR Rational residential split systems use highly efficient GMCC rotary compressors.GMCC is a joint venture with TOSHIBA Corporation and uses the latest Japanese technology in production. High fault tolerance and operating efficiency are characteristic features of these compressors. With a complete set of TOSHIBA software, technology and equipment, GMCC produces up to 4 million compressors per year. GMCC compressors have been certified by TUV, UL, CCEE and CSA.
Through the use of highly efficient compressors, the energy efficiency coefficients of LESSAR air conditioners have increased significantly. All models in the Rational series from 7000 to 12000 BTU are Class A compliant.
Filters
- Silver ion filter — filter with silver ions: provides a constant high-performance purification of the air from bacteria. Active e-ions negatively charge dust particles for more efficient air purification.
- active carbon — carbon nano-filter: destroys odors and absorbs harmful chemical gases, retains the smallest dust particles and pet hair, preventing allergic diseases.
- biofilter - biofilter: with the help of special enzymes, it traps small dust particles, destroys microorganisms and bacteria. The biofilter effectively cleans and sterilizes the air. It neutralizes 95% of bacteria and traps 99% of dust with a particle size of up to 0.3 microns.
- Vitamin C filter - Vitamin C filter: saturates the air with vitamin C, which increases the body's resistance to stress.

Air conditioner specifications
Typically, manufacturers indicate in the technical documentation the main power indicators. These include performance when working on cooling the room, heating it and, of course, electricity consumption. The first two indicators are not taken into account when calculating how much energy the air conditioner will consume; on their basis, the best option is selected so that it provides microclimate support in a room of a certain area.
The consumption of the air conditioner is three times less than the performance in cooling mode. It is this figure that is taken as the basis when it is necessary to calculate the average consumption rate for a certain period (month, year). As practice shows, the number does not reach 2-4 kilowatts, but approximately 0.9 kW. This figure is much less than that of an electric kettle or iron. The main mistake in the calculation is that many do not take into account the duration of the air conditioner, so more costs come out, but if you turn on the electric kettle for the same time, the costs will double.
Also, you should consider such an indicator as the power of the air conditioner.To calculate the power of the unit, they proceed from the average value (35W) for each cubic meter of the refrigerated room. For example, for a room of 20 square meters with a ceiling height of 2.6 meters, 2W of cooling power is required.
Also, you should pay attention to the number of windows, their location and the frequency of opening. More power will be required to cool the room if hot air is continuously supplied through the window opening
Do not forget about the heating power, because the air conditioner is designed not only to cool the room, but also to warm it up. The equipment performs its task by transporting warm air from outside the house. In heating mode, the device generates from 3 to 4 kW of heat, while using only 1 kW of electrical energy.
Choosing an air conditioner by power
Split systems and other types of cooling units are available in the form of model ranges with products of standard performance - 2.1, 2.6, 3.5 kW and so on. Some manufacturers indicate the power of models in thousands of British Thermal Units (kBTU) - 07, 09, 12, 18, etc. The correspondence of climate control units expressed in kilowatts and BTU is shown in the table.
Knowing the required performance in kilowatts and imperial units, select a split system in accordance with the recommendations:
- The optimal power of a household air conditioner lies in the range of -5 ... + 15% of the calculated value.
- It is better to give a small margin and round the result upwards - to the nearest product in the model range.
- If the cooling capacity determined by the calculation exceeds the power of the cooler from the standard series by a hundredth of a kilowatt, it should not be rounded up.
Example. The calculation result is 2.13 kW, the first model in the row develops a cooling capacity of 2.1 kW, the second one - 2.6 kW. We choose option No. 1 - an air conditioner for 2.1 kW, which corresponds to 7 kBTU.

Second example. In the previous section, we calculated the performance of the unit for an apartment - studio - 3.08 kW and fell between modifications of 2.6-3.5 kW. We choose a split system with a higher performance (3.5 kW or 12 kBTU), since a rollback to a smaller one will not fit into 5%.
The vast majority of climate systems are capable of operating in 2 modes - cooling and heating during the cold season. Moreover, the heat performance is higher, since the compressor motor, which consumes electricity, additionally heats the freon circuit. The power difference between cooling and heating is shown in the table above.
Calculation with additional parameters
The usual calculation of the power of the air conditioner, which is described above, most often gives fairly accurate results, but it would be useful to know about some additional parameters that are sometimes not taken into account, but quite strongly affect the required power of the device. The required power of the air conditioner increases to each of the following factors:
- Fresh air from an open window. The way in which we calculated the power of the air conditioner assumes that the air conditioner will operate with the windows closed, and fresh air will not enter the room.Most often, the operating instructions say that the air conditioner should work with the windows closed, otherwise, if outside air enters the room, an additional heat load will be created.
When the window is open, the situation is different, the air volume entering through it is not normalized and therefore the additional heat load will be unknown. You can try to solve this problem in this way - the window is set to the winter ventilation mode (the window opens slightly) and the door closes. Thus, the appearance of drafts in the room will be excluded, but at the same time a small amount of fresh air will fall into the room.
It should be noted that the instruction does not provide for the operation of the air conditioner with the window ajar, therefore, the normal operation of the device cannot be guaranteed in such a situation. If you still use the air conditioner in this mode, then it is worth considering that in this case, electricity consumption will increase by 10-15%.
- Guaranteed 18-20 °C. Most buyers are wondering: is air conditioning dangerous for health? The instructions clearly state that the temperature difference between inside and outside should not be very large. For example, if the temperature outside is 35-40°C, then it is preferable to keep the temperature in the room at least 25-27°C. Based on this, in order for the room to have the minimum possible temperature of 18 ° C, it is necessary that the outside air has a temperature of no more than 28.5 ° C.
- Top floor. In the event that the apartment is located on the top floor and there is no technical floor or attic above it, then the heated roof will transfer heat into the room. A dark-colored horizontal roof receives many times more heat than light-colored walls.Based on this, heat gains from the ceiling will be higher than will be taken into account in the usual calculation, therefore, the power consumption will need to be increased by about 12-20%.
- Increased glass area. During the normal calculation, it is assumed that the room has one standard window (with a glazing area of 1.5-2.0 m2). Based on the degree of sun exposure, the power of the air conditioner changes by 15% up or down from the average. In the event that the size of the glazing is larger than the standard value, then the power of the device should be increased.
Since the standard glazing area (2 * 2) is taken into account in normal calculations, then in order to compensate for additional heat inflows per square meter of glazing more than 2 sq. value of insolation and 50-100 W for shaded rooms.
So, if the room:
- located on the sunny side;
- the room has a large number of office equipment;
- there is a large number of people in it;
- it has panoramic windows,
then an additional 20% of the required power is added.
In the event that, when taking into account additional parameters, the calculated power has increased, it is recommended to choose an inverter air conditioner. Such a unit has a variable cooling capacity and therefore, if installed, it will more effectively cope with a wide range of thermal loads.
Consultants do not recommend choosing a conventional air conditioner with increased power, since in a small room it can create uncomfortable conditions due to the specifics of its work.
Thus, the calculation of the power of the air conditioner allows you to choose a device with the optimal cooling capacity to create a comfortable microclimate in the room. The larger the area of the room, the greater the power of the device should be. But the greater its performance, the more electricity the device consumes. Therefore, select equipment with the power necessary and sufficient for efficient work.
Choosing an air conditioner for an apartment or small office
ratio of area and cooling capacity
As a rule, for residential premises, buyers prefer split or multi-split systems with an indoor unit of various designs. To choose an air conditioner of the required power (or rather, cooling capacity or cold power), it is not enough to know only the size of the room, you also need to calculate the volume. What else needs to be considered when choosing an air conditioner for an apartment by area, and how to make calculations?
There are special formulas that, in addition to the area, take into account the heat released (or heat gains) from:
people permanently located there - 0.1-0.2 kW;
constantly working household appliances - 0.2-0.4 kW for each appliance;
TV and computer - 0.2 and 0.3 kW, respectively;
windows and doorways (here it is important to take into account the direction of the world where the window goes);
roofs.
Both at the roof and at windows with doors, on average, heat gains are 30-40 W / m³. The ceiling height can also be a plus, since with its values more than 3 meters, the power will have to be increased.
The resulting value of the required cold (Q) will be equal to the sum:
- heat gains from windows, doors, ceiling, walls and floor, multiplied by the area and height of the room (Q₁);
- heat gains from people (Q₂) and all household appliances (Q₃).
online calculator
To choose an air conditioner for an apartment by area, you will have to use this formula:
Q = Q1 + Q2 + Q3
But there are even simpler options that eliminate the need to multiply, add and count.
Far from new - these are online calculators for calculating the air conditioning area in rooms up to 70 m². It is enough just to enter all the data, and the program will give the finished result.
In practice, experts very often add another 30% of it to the nominal cooling capacity indicated in the manual as a margin for the points listed above, or for every 10 m² they take 1 kW + 20% on top of the result obtained.
Manufacturers' markings
The split system of the same model is produced for a different area (respectively, different power). Manufacturers label devices according to their cooling capacity expressed in kBTU (1000 BTU / h = 293 W). Based on this marking, one can judge whether this air conditioner is suitable for the needs of the future owner or not:
- 07 - power is 2 kW. On average, such a device can be placed in a room with an area of 18-20 square meters;
- 09 - air conditioners for 2.5-2.6 kW. Suitable for rooms up to 26 sq.m.;
- 12 - the most powerful option among domestic air conditioners (3.5 kW). Such a split system can be installed in rooms up to 35 sq.m. Marking 12 - the air conditioner is designed for the area of a large room with high ceilings.
Some manufacturers use other values - for example, Toshiba also labels 10 and 13 in BTU (they are slightly more powerful than nines and twos, respectively). And, for example, Mitsubishi in marking uses numbers corresponding to the area of the room - 20, 25, 35 (which is similar to "sevens", "nines" and "twos", respectively).
Below is a table that shows the required cooling capacity for a certain area of the room
Please note that this table only takes into account standard ceiling heights, low light, minimum equipment and people
Since many people confuse cooling power and power consumption, I advise you to read the article on how to distinguish between these concepts. And this article talks about labeling in more detail.
If the air conditioner is not powerful enough, then the owner is waiting for:
- low-quality cooling;
- overheating and breakdown of the device;
- additional costs for repairs and maintenance.
An insufficiently powerful device simply will not be able to perform its functions in a room that is too large and warm.
If the air conditioner is too powerful, then:
- the cost of the device and installation will be higher;
- the noise from the "split" will be louder;
- The potential of the device will not be fully utilized.
The increased power will not lead to premature failure of the device, but the owners will be forced to overpay for the “conder” and get used to the “excessive” noise.
If the number of people or working household appliances is constantly changing in the room, the sun actively appears only at certain times of the day, it is recommended to choose a split system with the function of adjusting to the environment (automatic mode, which is available in almost every modern appliance).Such devices are able to maintain a comfortable climate in homes without much human intervention - the algorithm itself selects the optimal parameters.

Buyer Selection Tips
You need to buy a split system, taking into account the size of the area that it has to serve. It is advisable to choose the power not back-to-back, but with some margin. Then the climatic device will not have to "give all the best" in full force, and it will last much longer.
If the budget for the purchase is limited, it makes sense to pay attention to the classic wall modules. They successfully cope with the task and do not require complex, expensive installation.
Wall units are very easy to care for. During the standard weekly cleaning, they can be wiped with a soft cloth, the inside can be cleaned of dust and dirt, and the filters can be removed and washed in water.
When the objective condition of the room does not allow mounting the system on the wall, floor or ceiling units serve as a replacement. You will have to pay more for them, but they can be placed on the floor or ceiling, leaving the supporting structures free.
This option is relevant for modern buildings with glass walls or ancient historical buildings, where violation of the state of the building is architecturally impossible or undesirable.
In rooms with a complex layout, it is reasonable to install a duct system. It will improve the climate even in the most remote corner of the apartment.
The cassette module will "hide" in the false ceiling and create the necessary temperature conditions in the room. The ceiling structure will effectively absorb the sound background from the operation of the module and create a climate-friendly environment.
Large spaces will be filled with a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere by column units fixed on the floor.
When buying, pay attention to the type of engine. As practice shows, inverter air conditioners are preferable to conventional ones - they are quieter, more economical in operation and more reliable.
The disadvantage of innovative technology is the high cost.
It should be noted that the presence of a large number of options will cost extra money.
If you want to save money, you should give preference to a model with a basic minimum of programs, among which are:
- intensive and reduced modes;
- anti-icing system;
- remembering settings;
- refrigerant level control.
All other functions must be selected based on the usefulness and expediency for each specific case.
The noise of operation is a fundamental point, and the quieter this indicator is for the unit, the better. The range of 25-45 dB is considered optimal for indoor units, and for external - 40-50 dB. Devices with such parameters will not interfere with the comfortable rest of the owners and neighbors.
