Overview of effective remedies
Organic waste, grease and paper are the 3 most common forms of matter that ends up in the sump. In each case, an individual choice of cleaning and disinfecting agents is required. This is not always convenient, so in some cases, owners of street toilets used to prefer to use the services of companies involved in the mechanical removal of sewage. Positive shifts began from the moment when manufacturers of bioactive substances took a step towards universal drugs.
For example, Sanex and the binary biologically active drug Gorynych bite into almost all types of pollution. The main thing is to choose the right dosage. The instructions will help you do this.
Before buying this or that septic tank, you should read reviews about it on the Internet.
The further course of action is as follows:
- Shake the bottle slightly before use;
- Pour 1 liter of water into a bucket;
- Add at least 1/3 of the contents of the bottle - provided that the volume of sewage does not exceed 0.5-0.7 cubic meters. m;
- If the specified value is from 1 cu. m and above, then the solution is made on the basis of 3 sachets;
- Mix thoroughly and pour.
The use of biologically active substances to remove the resulting sewage is an effective way to solve the problem. The key to success will be the choice of the optimal dosage and method of applying the drug. You need to build on the volume and biochemical characteristics of the latter. The scope of application is always indicated on the packaging, so the probability of error is reduced to zero.
Bioenzymatic preparation "Saneks" - a modern solution for cleaning sewers
Saneks is a biological product for cesspools. Sooner or later, every owner of a private house is faced with the need to clean the cesspool. It's an annoying thing, but you can't do without it. And so you want to postpone the call of the sewer truck, get rid of specific odors and comfortably use the sewer system. All these tasks can be solved by Saneks.
How does a biopreparation work?
Saneks is the result of the workdays of biotechnologists at the end of the twentieth century. At the heart of the creation of the drug is the idea of growing live bacteria.Microorganisms break down natural human waste, paper, fats and other organic substances into their simplest elements. Bacteria feed on these decay products.
Getting into the cesspool, Sanex recycles its contents. As a result, only three percent of the total volume of waste remains in solid form. Moreover, this granular precipitate is odorless and completely neutral in chemical composition.
The rest turns into water, absolutely safe for the environment. It can be drained into ponds, or you can water plants with it. The principle of action of the drug is clearly shown in the figure:

Why use Sanex?
1. The bio-cleaner does an excellent job with fats, organics, paper, food leftovers and other household waste. Of course, except for nuts, bolts, rubber wheels, etc. Saneks can process only organic substances.
2. The use of a biological product allows you to reduce the contents of the cesspool thirty times. Homeowners will be able to use the services of sewage equipment less frequently.
3. The liquid after the activity of microorganisms is environmentally friendly. It can be with a clear conscience "to let go of free swimming." Once in the soil or a reservoir, such water will not disturb the biological balance.
4. Saneks prevents the formation of blockages in sewer pipes, which increases their service life and reduces the number of preventive cleanings.
5. The biological product relieves cesspools of a specific aroma.
How to use Saneks for cesspools?
Using a biopreparation is very simple.
1. Dilute a certain dose of powder in settled water, the temperature of which is twenty to twenty-five degrees.
2.Let the mixture steep for twenty minutes. Stir occasionally.
3. Pour the resulting composition into a cesspool or sewer.
The consumption of the biological product depends on the time of use and the volume of the cesspool. Let's present this dependence in the form of tables.
Biopurifier consumption during the first month of use

Consumption of a biological product in the following months
During the first month, the drug is applied every week. Subsequently, once a month. A standard package (390 grams) for a small country toilet is enough for nine months (if used regularly). The longer the biological product "works" with waste, the smaller the amount required.
How to choose?
Before you buy this or that tool, you should pay attention to such factors:
- The temperature in the septic tank - if we are talking about the hot season, then organic products are also suitable. When frosts are noted on the soil surface, it is best to use chemical agents, since certain microclimatic conditions will be required to activate bacteria.
- Closed or open type of pit - for open ones, you can use biological aerobic means that are as safe as possible. With closed forms of cesspools, it is better to give preference to chemicals that will do their job to the maximum.
- The presence or absence of plastic containers in the cesspool - if the pit consists only of earth, then it is best to use organic matter. So when chemicals get into the soil, there is a risk of infection with salts that are toxic to humans and all living things.
- Further use of recycled waste - if intended use as a fertilizer for the garden and vegetable garden is planned, then only organic forms of cleaners are used. When using chemicals, a precipitate and a large amount of liquid are formed, which forces one to be puzzled by the search for means of mechanical pumping.
- Independent pumping out of the formed liquid - if the farm has a fecal pump, and it makes sense to pump out the processed masses independently, preference is given to organic matter. Chemicals can damage not only the pump itself, but also the pipes through which sewage is organized.

Also pay attention to the cost. High-quality drugs cannot be cheap and give instant results, while being absolutely safe for life and health.

Recommendations and tips for summer residents
Even strictly following the instructions does not always give a 100% result, sometimes you have to deal with nuances that are not described in the application. More experienced summer residents will help solve small problems. Here are some tips:
- Don't worry about changing the level of the liquid in the sump - it may decrease due to the action of the bioactivator or increase due to a decrease in the permeability of the drainage layer. The level of groundwater also has some influence.
- If the amount of treated effluent seems large, use a drainage or fecal pump to pump it out.
- In winter, biological processing may be suspended due to severe frosts: insulate the pit or wait for a thaw.
- It is better to hide drugs that are safe for health away from children and animals - they are not designed for oral administration.
- Don't be surprised if your "hermetic" pit suddenly begins to leak liquid into the soil - over time, bacteria clean out the bottom, denser layer of waste.
- To soften the hard old sediment, add more liquid.
As you can see, maintaining a cesspool with additional biological processing is not difficult.
Advantages and disadvantages of the use of microorganisms

- eliminate impurities;
- remove sewer stink;
- disinfect the cleaning facility;
- convert solid waste into a liquid state.
At the same time, the work of biobacteria does not lead to the destruction or corrosion of the walls of the cleaning device. They do not harm the life and health of people and animals. The clarified liquid and sedimentary mass is used as top dressing for horticultural crops. Regular use of biological preparations reduces the frequency of sewage cleaning.
There are no significant drawbacks in preparations with microorganisms. The main thing is to correctly carry out the cleaning process. It must be remembered that bacteria are living beings and require suitable living conditions.
- Temperature from 4 to 30 degrees Celsius. When lowering, microorganisms fall asleep, but as soon as the mercury column goes up, they become active. It is necessary to take into account the temperature inside the pit, since it is several degrees higher. If the street is more than zero, then the drug can be used. But in winter, bacteria do not work in an unheated toilet and can even die.
- Abundant nutrient medium. A small amount of "food" will lead to the death of the colony.With infrequent use of the treatment plant, for example, in the country, you need to add a portion of the drug. With summer use, a new colony of bacteria will need to be created every year.
- Humidity. For the normal development of the colony, it is necessary that the liquid in the tank rises at least three centimeters above the solid layer. If there is a shortage, water is added.
If all requirements are met, the microorganisms begin cleaning activity immediately after being introduced into the nutrient medium.
How to solve the problem of recycling in the country
In order to choose the right type of sewerage and ensure fast and efficient processing of wastewater, it is necessary to consider several factors, including:
- the number of residents;
- permanent or temporary residence;
- total volume of wastewater;
- the nature of the effluents, etc.
Ideally, the laying of a sewer system and the selection of a septic tank occur at the design stage, but this is only possible during the construction of a new house.
More often, communications have to be redone from the old ones - due to an increase in the number of permanent residents or a planned increase in the level of comfort.
Scheme of the device of a standard country toilet, which is located outside the residential building. A prerequisite is the presence of a hole for pumping solid waste
Everything does not end with the change of pipes or house repairs, it is often necessary to install a new container for collecting and processing waste. There are four options for solving the problem:
- local treatment plant (VOC) - an automatic station that purifies wastewater by 95-98%, followed by the secondary use of the liquid for economic purposes;
- a two- or three-chamber septic tank with several stages of cleaning (factory or self-built);
- a storage single-chamber septic tank, from which effluents are pumped out, are partially processed into raw materials for compost.
- an absorption well with a filtering bottom, which performs additional purification of the effluents treated in the septic tank in the process of passing them through the soil filtering backfill;
- a cesspool is a sealed container that requires regular cleaning.
In fact, the last two options are varieties of a traditional country cesspool, with the difference that the possibility of filtration creates a natural treatment of most of the waste, therefore, waste disposal has to be organized much less often.

Each type of wastewater treatment plant has its own characteristics. For example, for the uninterrupted operation of VOCs, the presence of electricity is necessary. The arrangement of a septic tank requires sufficient area for digging a large pit for 2-3 compartments or organizing a volumetric filtration field. For the processing of waste in cesspools, special biological products are needed - we will talk about them in more detail.
Live bacteria for septic tanks
There is simply no centralized sewerage system outside the cities. Therefore, residents of private houses and cottages have to independently equip wastewater disposal.
There are several approaches that allow you to do it yourself make an efficient system. Very often, more than 4 people can live permanently in a small area, which significantly affects the filling of the tank. As a result, cleaning or efficient processing will be required.
Modern solutions
Previously, the main method of disposal of wastewater and feces was to call in special equipment for pumping or change the location of the cesspool.
Today, a completely different approach is used, which allows almost completely processing human waste products.
In order to effectively dispose of wastewater, special preparations are used. These are bacteria that feed on organic matter. Due to the natural process, the environment is not harmed.
The following types of bacteria can be the basis in the preparations:
Each of them has certain advantages that people have learned to use. An important role is played by the composition of wastewater and the use of specific drugs. Microorganism-based products are available in liquid or tablet form. The latter must first be dissolved in water before use.
Aerobic bacteria
Waste metabolism by aerobic bacteria requires special conditions.
Oxygen is an essential ingredient in this process. It acts as a catalyst for the start of the process and is necessary throughout the processing of wastewater and faeces.
Compared to bacteria that do not require oxygen to decompose waste, anaerobic microorganisms have the following advantages:
- no unpleasant odor (methane), the process is accompanied by the release of thermal energy and carbon dioxide;
- the liquid is maximally purified to relatively pure water;
- minimum solid waste;
- residues of organic origin are environmentally friendly and can be used as fertilizer.
For greater efficiency, an oxygen blower is used. Periodically turning on the compressor will allow you to empty the tank with drains much faster. Topas septic tank would be an excellent solution. Today it is one of the best models of this type.
Anaerobic microorganisms
This type of bacteria does not require oxygen to survive.
The decomposition process consists in the sedimentation of all solid waste to the bottom. There they gradually rot. The liquid becomes transparent. Metabolism is not as fast as aerobic bacteria with oxygen.
There are also the following disadvantages:
- a significant percentage of solid residues that have not decomposed;
- processed products are not allowed to be used as fertilizer;
- methane is released during the process;
- requires the involvement of special equipment (vacuum truck);
- cleaning only 2/3 of the total volume.
When using anaerobic bacteria in the septic tank of a private house, additional cleaning is necessary through a sand and gravel layer. One of the best units is the tank septic tank. With it, you can effectively process household drains and feces. After the partially treated effluent enters the ground, additional treatment with natural aerobic bacteria takes place.
Combined application
Another way to dispose of wastewater and faeces is to use specially selected microorganisms. They are called bioactivators.
Under favorable conditions, they begin to act within 2 hours after entering the septic tank or cesspool.
For living bacteria, sufficient water must be provided.
Depending on the combination, the preparation has a corresponding instruction. Its strict observance will allow you to get the result indicated by the manufacturer.Modern preparations are quite effective and allow you to completely process almost all waste.
Combination of different types
The main advantage of adding different bacteria is maximum efficiency.
In this case, all the advantages of each type add up. As a result, cleaning the septic tank or cesspool is complete and requires a minimum amount of time.
In simple terms, the whole process is divided into three stages:
- decomposition of solid particles under the influence of anaerobic bacteria;
- further filtration with aerobic microorganisms;
- the remains are recycled by anaerobic bacteria.
Septic tanks that involve these stages of wastewater treatment have received excellent reviews. Septic tanks of a special design make it possible to avoid the involvement of special equipment for pumping wastewater. Or do it very rarely.
Use of chemicals

For this, various substances are used that can decompose and neutralize sewage.
Such funds, as a rule, are not very expensive, but can be dangerous to humans, so they are used in compliance with safety regulations.
Consider the most common chemicals:
- Formaldehyde: Also known as formalin, this drug is affordable, but due to its high toxicity, it is being used less and is considered obsolete.
- Nitrate oxidizing agents: substances that are much less hazardous to human health and the environment. Moreover, after processing by some of them, for example, nitric acid, the waste masses can be used as fertilizers.However, this does not mean that nitrate oxidizers are ineffective: they do an excellent job with bacteria living in feces, eliminate unpleasant odors and dilute effluents, simplifying their pumping.
- Ammonium salt compounds: when mixed with water, they form a strong alkali that effectively decomposes waste and destroys even the strongest and most persistent odors. They have two drawbacks: they are neutralized by detergents and are extremely dangerous for human health (in order to avoid vapors entering the air, the cesspool has to be vacuum cleaned).
A well-known preparation, bleach, is still in use. This tool, like formalin, is very dangerous, but due to its low cost it remains in demand.
Types of funds for cesspools
If you do not analyze the composition of the available funds, then we can only say that they are divided depending on the form of release. Preparations are sold in liquid, bulk, granular form, as well as in the form of tablets. All of them are convenient in their own way.
Liquid concentrates do not require additional preparation before use, granules and powders have a longer service life and an affordable price, but they must be diluted in water in advance. Tablets allow you to accurately calculate the required amount of funds.
With a more detailed analysis of the topic, it is worth taking into account not only the form of release, but also the type of active substance. In this case, all drugs can be divided into two large groups: chemicals and live bacteria.
Cesspool chemicals
More recently, only chemicals were used to clean cesspools, today they have already found a replacement, but still in some cases they are still used.
Chemical preparations are resistant to a number of negative conditions. They can work at the lowest temperatures, in contrast to bacteria that die already at -1°C.
Means based on chemical reagents are not afraid of harmful impurities. Even if the pit is used as a container for autonomous sewage, and detergents constantly get into it, the cleaning agent will still do an excellent job.
Chemicals fight unpleasant odors faster, so if the drug is needed only for this, you should choose just this type of it.
A big lack of chemicals is a significant harm to the environment. After application in an outdoor toilet, no grass will grow in its place for a long time. The same harm can be done to a person if the rules of use are not followed.
True, not all chemicals are harmful.
Preparations based on nitrate oxidizing agents are completely harmless to the environment. After applying them, you can even use the accumulated sediment as a fertilizer. This type of tool costs a little more than the other two.
Ammonium compounds and formaldehydes are already harmful to nature and humans, the latter are somewhat stronger. They have even been banned in many countries. In the CIS, you will not find a formaldehyde-based cesspool cleaner either.
It is because of the harm to the soil that chemicals began to be gradually replaced by living bacteria.
Live bacteria for cesspools
These cesspool cleaners literally contain live bacteria.They come into action after getting into the cesspool.
In fact, live bacteria only accelerate the natural process of waste decomposition. They divide them into two layers - water and silt sediment. Water is gradually absorbed into the soil without any harm to it.
It is the absence of any danger, both for the environment and for the person himself, that has recently made biological preparations for cleaning cesspools so popular.
Unfortunately, they also have disadvantages.
The very first is poor resistance to low temperatures. Most of the bacteria that are used to clean the pits need heat from +4 to +30°C. Otherwise, they simply die.
The same damage to bacteria is caused by various aggressive compounds that can get into the pit through the sewer. In particular, they are afraid of chlorine, acids and alkalis. Some types of bacteria simply become less effective, while others die completely.
Therefore, it is advisable to purchase products that combine several types of bacteria.
Also, the choice should be based on the type of construction in which the tool for cesspools will be used. Reviews show that the same remedy can show different effectiveness in different conditions.
All bacteria can be divided into anaerobic and aerobic.
Anaerobic - can develop in a closed pit, without constant access to oxygen. In the course of their work, they emit methane, so an unpleasant odor is possible. In addition, they do not clean thoroughly enough, so the pit is released rather slowly.
Aerobic bacteria are more whimsical in use. They constantly need oxygen.It is necessary to equip a special air duct in the design of the cesspool. Such difficulties are easily compensated by excellent efficiency. They clear the pit significantly in a couple of months, although the rest cannot do the same amount of work in six months.
The use of biological products to clean the cesspool
Each of these drugs is a friendly family of microorganisms of one kind or another that feed on sewage, decomposing them into simpler and absolutely harmless substances.
As a result, their volume is significantly reduced.
All types of bacteria are divided into two large groups:
- Anaerobic: the life processes in the organisms of these animals are organized in such a way that they do not need oxygen at all. It is these cultures that are suitable for ordinary cesspools: the user only needs to inject the drug into the sewer and no longer have to worry about his fate. All that such a microbe needs is household waste as food.
- Aerobic: in terms of productivity, these bacteria are an order of magnitude ahead of their anaerobic counterparts, but they cannot live without oxygen. And simple ventilation is not enough here - fresh air has to be supplied by a compressor, which requires additional costs and makes an autonomous sewage system volatile. Another disadvantage is that due to the intensive air exchange around the cesspool or septic tank, an unpleasant odor can spread.
Biological products can be supplied in the following forms:
- Powders or granules: the bacteria present in such products are in conservation mode. To bring them back to life, the drug must be diluted in water.
- Liquids: These biologics are highly efficient.Usually they contain a whole set of cultures focused on the processing of a wide range of substances.
- Tablets: These antiseptics are just as convenient to deliver and store as powdered antiseptics, but do not require prior dilution in water.
In addition to the listed forms, which are the most common, bacterial colonies can be supplied in special containers, soluble bags and other types of packaging.
