Iron or not?
A hot iron can kill dust mite larvae and bacteria that may be left behind after washing.
Many simply do not think about whether it is necessary to wash new bed linen or iron the washed one. This has always been done in their family, which means that it is necessary. But why?
Of course, I am far from British scientists who scientifically substantiate all sorts of nonsense, but I will try to argue both points of view.
4 arguments against
Lying in a bed like in the photo is really unpleasant
But, despite the fact that I do not iron the linen, it looks decent enough for me. Because I:
- I take it out of the machine immediately after washing;
- Immediately shake and hang in a straightened form;
- After drying, carefully fold into a pile. If it is large, then the fabric is gradually smoothed out under its own weight, for which, after a couple of days, the stack is turned over. If this is one set, then it is placed in a chair, and I sit on it - to knit or watch a movie. By the end of the session, the sheets and pillowcases are smoothed out.
Iron do-it-yourself linen - unnecessarily long and tedious
Why am I against ironing. In addition to banal laziness:
| Image | Arguments against ironing |
![]() | Reason 1 It takes a lot of time that could be put to better use. |
![]() | Reason 2 Large power consumption. The iron eats a lot, why the extra spending? |
![]() | Reason 3 Ironed sheets absorb moisture worse. In other words, sweat. |
![]() | Reason 4 High temperature during processing destroys the pleasant smell of clean fabric. Especially dried in the winter in the cold. |
For me, the arguments are enough. For some, other arguments are more important.
4 arguments "for"
The arguments in favor of ironing are as follows:
| Image | Arguments for ironing |
![]() | Reason 1 Appearance. It is pleasant to look at the bed when there are no wrinkles on it. |
![]() | Reason 2 Softness after ironing. It is really pleasant to lay down on a smoothed fabric. |
![]() | Reason 3 Compactness. After the iron, the stack turns out to be denser and more accurate, it is easier to place in a closet or chest of drawers. |
![]() | Reason 4 Service life extension. It is believed that ironing makes the fabric stronger, preventing the fibers from fluffing and splitting. If the price of the kit is high, then it makes sense. |
Here are the arguments in favor. Mostly aesthetic.
Rules for the care of bed linen
Experts advise choosing bedding made from natural fabrics, especially for newborns and young children. They are safe and practically do not cause allergies, and at the same time are more pleasant for the body.
Be sure to wash your underwear before the first use! You need to change the bed set every 7-10 days, for babies and newborns - twice a week. Remember to clean pillows every 3-6 months and duvets every 6-12 months.
Natural fabrics should be washed separately from synthetics so that things do not become rigid and pellets do not form on the surface. Before washing, things must be sorted by color and turned inside out. This will preserve the presentable appearance and color of the products for a longer time.
Items made of cotton and linen, coarse calico and satin can be washed both by hand and by machine. To do this, choose a temperature of up to 40 degrees and spin up to 700 revolutions, otherwise the pattern or material will deteriorate. Wash colored linen the first three times at temperatures up to 30 degrees, and only then go to 40 degrees. Delicate fabrics are washed in a delicate mode without spinning.

The drum of the washing machine is filled no more than 2/3 of the volume, and it is better to fill it only half
It is important that things rotate, and not stray into one lump. Choose a laundry detergent that matches the type of fabric and color
It is desirable that the product does not contain bleaching components. Do not use bleach to wash cotton! When washing, use fabric softener to give the products softness, tenderness and a pleasant aroma.
Laundry made from natural materials should be dried naturally away from sunlight and heating appliances. Immediately after washing, carefully straighten the fabrics, remove wrinkles and creases. Be sure to turn garments inside out if you haven't done so before washing.
After that, slightly dried clothes can be ironed if necessary. If the products are completely dry, moisten the surface with water from a spray bottle or use steam if the label allows it.
How to iron bed linen
If you decide that bed linen needs to be ironed, this should be done according to all the rules. Ironing most often requires natural, environmentally friendly fabrics - linen, cotton, bamboo, etc. To get it done quickly and efficiently, you need to iron a slightly damp cloth. Sprinkle the overdried product with water and roll it into a roll so that the moisture is evenly distributed over the fibers.
Before you start ironing, make sure that there are no small holes in the sheet and duvet cover, otherwise they will disperse under the influence of heat. You can not iron things that have stains: after ironing, the dirt will penetrate into the structure of the fabric and it will be almost impossible to remove them.
It is important to choose the right temperature for each type of material.Information about the rules of care is indicated on the product tag (same as on clothing)
If there is an icon with a crossed-out iron, it is strictly forbidden to iron such a thing. The required temperature is indicated by the number of dots inside the image of the iron: the more there are, the more you need to heat up the soleplate of the device.
| Material | Heating temperature | Features of ironing |
| Cotton | +180 ℃ | Using a steam generator |
| chintz | +175 ℃ | On the front side of the product with additional wetting of the fabric |
| Linen | +200 ℃ | From the wrong side, applying a little effort |
| Viscose | +120 ℃ | From the inside through a piece of cotton or gauze |
| Silk | +80 ℃ | Steam generator in vertical position |
Procedure
It is most convenient to start the process with the smallest thing in the kit - pillowcases. Turn it inside out, work the inside curves, then iron it from the front side.
The sheet must be folded in length and width so that you get an equilateral rectangle. The fabric must be ironed on both sides, then unfolded and do the same with the inner parts. To make the sheet look neat, the corners of the product when folded must clearly match.
Ironing a duvet cover is the most time-consuming part of the job. First, turn it inside out, straighten all the corners and seams on the sides and fasten the slit. Next, fold in the same way as a sheet, and iron each of the four sides, first from the inside, and then from the face. In order for a thing to become perfectly even, it must be processed with effort, and more often use a steam generator in the process.
To iron a sheet or duvet cover, they need to be folded in four
After all the products from the kit are processed, you need to leave them for a while to cool completely. There are two ways to fold the linen in the closet: either individually sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers, or hide all the parts in a pillowcase and store as a set.
Why do you need to wash new bedding?
So, why does the manufacturer insist that you need to wash new bedding? There are a number of reasons:
- Finishing. This is a special coating, a composition that is applied to the fabric to make the colors brighter, more saturated. Also, the drawing turns out to be a little shiny, and the canvas itself is hard, as if it had been starched. This treatment gives the linen a more attractive appearance, more tempting for buyers when shown. By the way, thanks to the finished coating, the fabric folds more easily, which also creates additional convenience for sellers.
- The possibility of violation of the integrity of the packaging during transportation. And this opens up huge opportunities for various microorganisms, infections, allergens, etc. So, when buying linen in damaged packaging, it is imperative to wash it, because the risk of contamination of things with something increases significantly.
- Allergy and irritation can be caused by the same dressing, because in this case different chemical compounds are used.
- Poor-quality linen, if laid out without washing, will almost certainly stain the new owners. So you can wake up in the morning green, blue, red or multi-colored.
- Not everyone likes the specific smell of new things, it can irritate and interfere with sleep.
- On hard textiles it is also worse to sleep.
- It is not known under what conditions the linen is sewn. Often the fabric lies directly on the floor, in the dirt, in the workshops there is a column of dust. At first glance, these pollution may not be noticeable, but this will not add comfort to sleep;
- There may be mechanical particles (sand, threads, etc.) in the fabric or on it, which will cause discomfort and interfere with healthy sound sleep.
- Various microorganisms willingly settle on natural tissues: bed and dust mites, lice, etc.
- Storage conditions unknown. If the rules and deadlines are not followed, things may be contaminated, for example, with mold bacteria.
It is also unknown who touched this linen. Perhaps he was not a very healthy person. There may be other ethical considerations as well.

Ironing the bed: the pros and cons
Many housewives like to iron textiles, and they don’t even think that they can do without this procedure. Why do you need to process the fabric?
There are really many advantages to ironed linen:
- neat appearance. Ironed linen is associated with cleanliness, hygiene and cleanliness of a person; it is not a shame to lay it on guests;
- after ironing, the bed becomes soft and pleasant to the body (except for terry sheets, which become more rigid and thin);
- due to the structuring of the fibers of the fabric, the wear resistance of bedding increases;
- during heat treatment, harmful microorganisms and bacteria, tick larvae, etc. are killed.
The ironed set becomes more compact and takes up less space on the cabinet shelf
Although ironing clothes has a number of advantages, this approach also has enough disadvantages:
- In the process of heat treatment, the pleasant aroma of detergents is reduced or completely disappears.
- Ironing worsens the hygroscopicity of the fabric, so the linen absorbs moisture worse.During sleep, a person sweats, and if the bedding does not absorb sweat, then the discharge remains on the skin and clogs the pores, which negatively affects health.
- To stroke all the voluminous things from the kit, you need to spend a lot of effort, time and energy, including electricity. If there are several sets, then it can take a whole day.
- After ironing, some types of bed textiles are electrified, which negatively affects the full rest and comfort of a person during sleep.
If you wash and dry the products correctly, the linen will look aesthetically pleasing and without ironing.
To know if you need this procedure, you should weigh all the pros and cons and decide what is fundamentally important to you and what is not.

- Linen
This is a century old classic.Linen has a unique property: it pleasantly cools in the heat and, conversely, warms in the cold. Withstands an infinite number of washes, from which the fabric only becomes lighter. But nothing lasts forever under the moon. -
chintz
The cheapest and simplest fabric, it feels most like coarse calico. A chintz bed wears out quickly, but practically does not wrinkle. If you like different patterns and colors or move often, then why not?Depositphotos
- Percale
An option that may not suit everyone, but underwear made from this fabric is still popular. Withstands 1000 washes, very dense and durable. This linen is not easy to iron even with a steamer. -

Silk is for kings. Not only beautiful, resistant, hypoallergenic, but also has healing properties. It is believed that sleeping on silk linen allows you to quickly overcome all sorts of colds. The only negative is that silk costs money.Depositphotos

Why bedding fabric can not be ironed
It is important to deal with one conceptual question - why is linen being ironed at all? This is a long tradition, because we spend a third of our lives in bed, caring for her need a special one. How was it before? They rinsed in the river, and then with a hot iron to destroy microbes
In the modern world, all this seems to be irrelevant for a long time.
Depositphotos
From the words of an aunt from Italy, it turned out the following: before, ironing really made sense as a hygienic procedure. Now almost every family has a washing machine and a bunch of any detergents, including antibacterial ones. Bed linen is washed even at 90 degrees, it is unlikely that any bacterium will survive.
Depositphotos
In addition to the fact that washing machines have the functions of drying and ironing, modern fabrics have little need to iron them after washing. For example, silk, poplin, chintz can not be ironed at all, but linen is simply pointless, because it wrinkles at the slightest touch. If your inner esthete suffers greatly, the linen after washing can be straightened and then folded along the seam - it will look like ironed.
Depositphotos
Italians generally believe, they say, why waste time and effort on something that the next day will take its natural state, that is, it will become crumpled again? Why burden yourself with unnecessary worries and still waste electricity on it? They believe that this is just a force of habit, parting with which will not break anything in life. But, of course, it's up to you to decide.

Features for different types of fabrics
Before ironing the product, you need to carefully study the information on the tag. If it is not there, then you can use the simple rules for caring for certain types of fabrics:
Viscose. You need to pass the iron over the material from the wrong side. Before work, carefully align the clothes to avoid wrinkles. Do not hold the iron on an uneven surface, you can ruin the material. It is recommended to iron through damp gauze or cotton cloth.
Linen and cotton. Products are ironed from the inside out.It is better to wrap linen or cotton clothes in a wet cloth and leave for half an hour. Treat the surface through cheesecloth. It is better to use the steam function without overheating the iron to temperatures above 200 ° C. For thin 100% cotton, a temperature of 160-180 ° C is suitable.
Fatin. The main thing is that the product must be washed correctly, the recommended spin is 500 revolutions. It is difficult to iron a thing with a simple iron. A dense material is placed under the fabric, cotton fabric or gauze is placed on top. Choose the minimum t ° C, otherwise the clothes will turn yellow. You can use the steam function, which aligns the thing without deforming it.
Velvet and velvet products. In the second case, steam is used. Velvet items are ironed from the inside through cotton fabric. It is better to put a terry towel of small thickness on the ironing board. This keeps the look of the clothes. Corduroy and velvet are ironed at a low temperature.
Jack. First, iron the thing off your face. On the reverse side of the creases should not be. Eliminating them is very difficult. Fold the product in half facing inward. To process from one, then from the other side at a temperature of t °C 200-210.
Synthetics. Practical, popular fabric. You can iron such products, following the recommendations indicated on the label: mode for ironing, washing. Most often, low or medium temperature is used. Products are processed from the inside through gauze or cotton fabric.
Veil. Before starting work, it is better to attach gauze to the clothes. Ironing the product without cotton fabric does not follow. It is also impossible to linger in one place - you can damage the material. The iron must be moved quickly and carefully. Steam is also not recommended.
Knitwear. After washing, knitwear may be deformed.
Pass the iron from the inside, the fabric should be damp. It is better to carefully move the device over the material. Ironed clothes should be left on the ironing board to cool and dry thoroughly.
Kapron
You can iron it, but only at a low temperature of 110 ° C. If the device does not have a delicate mode, it will not work. It is good to align the capron on the board, put cotton fabric on top. The more delicate the item, the thicker the pad should be. The steam function cannot be used.
Satin. It is recommended to process the product from the face. Set the mode to 200°C. For effective ironing, you can use a steamer. But the fabric itself needs to be dried well. Wet material will stretch and warp. Additional fabric pads, gauze is not used.
Atlas. Products quickly wrinkle, deform. They should be slightly damp. Temperature regime 140-150°C. The regulator should be set to "silk" mode. It is better to process the surface from the inside through the cotton fabric. Move the device quickly, without holding it in one position, otherwise the structure of the fibers will be broken.
Tulle. The recommended temperature is 120°C. For most curtains, you can use the steam mode. If this function is not available, put a moistened cloth on the ironing board. Read more here.
Organza. Place gauze under the material. Set minimum temperature. You can use the steam function. You can find detailed information here.
Polyester. Iron from the inside through moistened gauze. If the thing on the front side remains wrinkled, you will have to walk along it. Temperature 120-130°C. Read more here.
Leatherette. When ironing, the sections should not touch. It is better to place a roller in the sleeve. The surface is treated from the wrong side through gauze. The temperature is minimal, steam cannot be used. Read more here.
Leather. Temperature regime 110-140°C. Straighten the product well beforehand. Read more here.
Silk. Select a mode with the same name. Place moistened gauze on the front side (if the product is completely dry). Steam mode cannot be turned on. Read more here.
Not all linen and cotton fabrics are natural. Manufacturers often add synthetic fibers that reduce the cost of products, they are ironed at lower temperatures and wrinkle less. To do not damage clothes, you should read the composition of the fabric on the label.
When ironing is necessary
There are several situations when it is necessary to iron things.
Small child
Pediatricians advise young mothers to iron clothes if there is a small child in the house
Particular attention should be paid to the things of the newborn, as they have a weakened immune system. Processing the fabric with a heated iron destroys all germs and infections that may be on the fabric and harm the health of the baby
Diseases
Ironing clothes is advised to engage in the period of development of diseases. Doctors advise doing this when colds or skin conditions develop. These include fungal pathologies, dermatitis and lichen. In this case, all things are washed in boiled water and ironed with steam.
Arrival of guests overnight
It often happens that friends come to visit and stay overnight. Many people do not want to cover unironed and rumpled sheets and duvet covers with them. Therefore, it is necessary to make sure that there are always several sets of ironed linen in the closets, which can be given to guests. This will help not only avoid embarrassing situations, but also establish yourself as a good host.

So iron or not?
The thing is that only you yourself can answer this question: as you decide, it will be right.
Scan sensations and desires: how important it is for you to sleep on well-ironed bedding.
Assess your own strengths and capabilities: whether it will be possible to regularly perform ironing work.
Optimize the process. In a simplified version, linen can be ironed without fanaticism, barely touching the surface with an iron, move on to the next wrinkled areas
Or, instead of an iron, use a household steam generator (steamer). It perfectly evens out the folds, and the work is faster and easier.
Create comfortable conditions. For example, if your legs get tired, you can iron while sitting. And if the work is not at all enjoyable, put an ironing board in front of the TV. While watching your favorite series, you yourself will not notice how you iron out all the naughty folds on the bed linen.
When is it necessary to iron clothes?
Regardless of beliefs, sometimes it is simply necessary to iron bed linen:
Be sure to iron all sets for newborns. The first three months of life is the formation of the immune system of babies
During this period, it is important to protect them from pathogens that can provoke serious diseases.
immune system of people during illness or immediately after it (rehabilitation period) is also greatly weakened. Therefore, it is worth taking care of loved ones who need it.
For the purpose of disinfection, bed linen should be ironed if there are problems with insects: lice, bedbugs, mites.
Benefits of ironing
Many housewives believe that it is necessary to iron bedding, bringing to their advantage the main benefits that can be obtained by completing this process.
- After ironing, the bedding becomes softer, it becomes more comfortable and comfortable for sleeping. An ironed bed smells better, and while relaxing, you inhale pleasant aromas that allow you to relax and fall asleep faster.
- If you do not iron the bed linen after washing, it takes up a lot of space on the shelves in the closet. If you iron such textiles, then it becomes very compact, taking up a minimum of space, since it can be folded in neat piles.
- Curled edges on bedding, a crumpled sheet or duvet cover are characterized by an untidy appearance. Even a slight treatment with an iron or a steam generator can transform the bed after washing.
- Cotton bedding must be ironed if you want your sleeping set to last a very long time. Under the influence of high temperature when ironing textiles made from this material, its fibers are more closely adjacent to each other, as a result of which they become much stronger. In this case, the life of the cotton bed will be much longer than if regular ironing is not carried out.
- Many housewives prefer to wash things at a temperature that does not exceed 40 degrees. This is relatively non-hot water, so a variety of pathogenic bacteria and microorganisms remain on the bedding. If you iron it well and, in addition, go through the steam, you can not only maintain hygiene, but also minimize the risk of a number of diseases that are provoked by harmful bacteria.

- Bed linen, which necessarily requires heat treatment, includes sleeping sets for newborns and patients with various infectious diseases. Exposure to high temperatures allows for complete disinfection of bedding.
- Without fail, after washing, it is necessary to iron the linen on which a person suffering from allergies sleeps (this will reduce the risk of allergic reactions), as well as from chronic skin diseases (this will help protect other family members from infection and will alleviate the condition of the patient himself) .
- The bed of the baby requires ironing to make the surface perfectly flat. Extra folds and creases can rub or squeeze the delicate skin of a newborn, causing him additional discomfort. As a result, the baby becomes very restless and does not sleep well.
Preparing for ironing: the secrets of proper drying clothes
Natural fabrics are ironed before they are completely dry, so it is ideal to iron them slightly damp. With synthetics, things are different. Fabrics of this type can be ironed only after they are completely dry and only through gauze or cotton fabric.

How to make the ironing process easier?
After taking things out of the washing machine, carefully shake off the remaining moisture from them. This will straighten the fabric.
Sheets and duvet covers can be folded in half along the seam to dry.Using a special conditioner and simple tips for proper drying will make ironing easier.
Fabric softener

Using a conditioner when washing bed linen makes ironing much easier. The trick is to soften the fabric with this product, which makes it easier to remove the creases.
Immediate drying after washing
The longer the bed linen is in the washing machine, the stronger the folds “fix” on its surface. To avoid this, it is necessary to hang up the clothes to dry after washing, so it will be easier to iron them later.
Straighten corners before drying

Housewife experience 15 years
You also need to dry your laundry properly. There are some tricks here. Flatten the corners before drying so they don't curl. This way you can avoid creases at the corners. This is especially true for pillowcases and duvet covers.
How to dry sheets and duvet covers
Large pieces of bed linen can be folded in half along the seam to dry by flattening the corners. This saves space for drying and makes ironing easier.
Iron choice

It will be trite to advise you to choose not the cheapest iron. But it is still one of the main criteria. Cheap irons are not durable and are more difficult to iron than better and more expensive counterparts.
The first thing you should pay attention to when choosing an iron is its soleplate. Opt for an aluminum outsole covered in steel on a low budget.
If funds allow, choose titanium-coated steel or cermet.
And also pay attention to power. It should be at least 1700 watts. And the ideal option would be - 2500 watts.
Light irons are not worth buying. They will take longer to smooth the fabric. The ideal weight of this device is 1.7 kg.
One last piece of advice: the water tank in the iron should have an anti-scale coating. In this case, you can use tap water in it.
There are a few simple rules for proper ironing of bed linen.
1. Before hanging the washed laundry, you need to straighten all the corners
To simplify the ironing process, immediately after washing, hang the linen to dry, straighten all corners of the duvet cover and pillowcases.
If they have “pellets” that form after washing, for example, if the fabric of the bed linen forms a “parga”, or if you have a blanket made of natural wool, the wool of which accumulates in the corners of the duvet cover during washing, they must be removed.
You need to straighten the corners. Otherwise, they will dry out in a crumpled form, and it will be more difficult to iron them.
2. Do not dry your laundry in a crumpled form - ironing will be more difficult
If the drying area does not allow sheets or duvet covers to dry flat, carefully fold the duvet cover or sheet in half and hang it up. It will take a little longer to dry, but ironing will be easier.
3. Try not to overdry your laundry
Do not iron unfinished or excessively damp linen. If you fail to iron it to dry completely, excessively damp laundry put away in this state in storage may begin to rot or mold.
4. Ironing board makes ironing easier
Bed linen, like any other linen, I iron on an ironing board. I straighten the thing on the surface of the board and with smooth movements from right to left I drive it with an iron heated to the required level, ironing the fabric to a smooth state, without folds and creases. No need to make sudden movements, no need to convulsively drive the iron over the fabric.
You can, of course, iron on the kitchen table and on the sofa. But take pity on the table, which can be stained from constant contact with a hot iron. And have pity on your back if you iron on the couch: a bent back quickly becomes numb, and you won’t be able to iron a lot of things in this position. Hence the dislike for ironing.
5. I start ironing clothes with small and even objects.
I start ironing bedding with pillowcases. It's more comfortable for me. If the pillowcases are "with a smell", I first iron the inside of the spare part. If with buttons, I iron the places with eyelets and between the buttons. Then I level, iron the entire surface, ironing the corners separately. If necessary, iron on the other side.
6. Large even objects can be folded in half and ironed like that
A duvet cover is the most difficult item to iron.
I lay it out on an ironing board (do not fold in half). I iron first on one side, then on the other, carefully ironing the corners. Then I fold it in half in length, iron it again - this is in order not to iron on the back of the duvet cover.
7. Bedding in dark shades
Bed linen in dark shades, which can be purchased on the Pooh and Son website, must be ironed inside out only. Otherwise, glossy spots may remain from the iron, which will spoil the entire appearance of the kit.
8. Fold the bedding neatly after ironing
I neatly fold all the bed linen and put it away in a storage place.
And the last tips: if you don’t have the opportunity to iron the linen as soon as it is dry, then you can do this: carefully fold the duvet cover, sheet and pillowcases, put them on a flat and hard surface, and press something heavy on top. So you get something like a press. So it can lie for two days.
Then, when ironing, sprinkle each item with water, wait a bit for the water to soak in, and you can iron.
Well, now you know how to properly iron bedding. Agree, there is nothing complicated in this, and you just need to do it yourself!

Rules for ironing bed linen
If the hostess makes a choice in favor of regular ironing of bed linen, then certain recommendations should be followed to make this process easier and more efficient:
- When washing in a washing machine, it is recommended to set the easy ironing mode so that things after washing are less wrinkled.
- To quickly and efficiently smooth out all the wrinkles, you need to iron with a damp cloth.
- When setting the temperature on the iron, it is necessary to take into account the type of fabric.
- If the product is dry, then you should use a steamer, which will help to refresh and quickly iron the laundry.
- The direction of the iron when ironing should be along the length to avoid stretching the fabric.
- In order to shorten the ironing time, the linen should be folded several times and ironed on each side.
- Freshly ironed hot laundry must be cooled to room temperature so that it is ventilated and completely dry.
When ironing, you must follow the rules for the care of individual fabrics:
- Silk can be ironed only on a special gentle temperature regime, while the fabric must be damp, because. if you completely dry the product made of silk, and then sprinkle with water and iron, stains may remain. Silk must be ironed from the wrong side.
- To iron cotton products, it is necessary to set the maximum temperature on the iron, while the laundry must be damp, and when it is completely dry, it is recommended to use steaming or spraying with water. Cotton must be ironed from the front side.
- Do not iron terrycloth, as this will cause the fabric to become stiff and less fluffy. To avoid creases and creases, it is recommended to hang it evenly and wait for it to dry.
- Satin bed linen must be ironed from the wrong side, without using steam.
- To iron synthetic and mixed fabrics, you must use a warm iron, the procedure is carried out from the wrong side.
The choice in favor of ironing or refusing it in each individual case should be made on an individual basis, based on the lifestyle and preferences of family members, having previously assessed all the pros and cons of ironing.
