Tips on how to silently go to the toilet

It is better not to ignore the urges of the body - this negatively affects health. Wherever you are, it is better to go to the toilet and relieve yourself.

Few people are embarrassed to go to the toilet "in a small way", but "in a big way" seems inappropriate and shameful to many. In order not to feel awkward, here are a few tips to help you do everything quietly and not spoil the impression of yourself.

Assessing the situation and choosing the moment

The first step is to assess the situation.It is better to try to predict such a moment when everyone is busy and distracted, then it will be easier to go out and retire to the toilet without attracting attention to yourself. If people around you do not notice your disappearance, then they will not understand how long you were absent.

Correct preposition

If the circle of friends or colleagues is small and it is impossible to go out unnoticed, it is better to come up with a good excuse

It is not necessary to focus on the fact that you are going to the toilet. Try to come up with something like:

  • you need to answer an important call;
  • you need to freshen up or fix your makeup / hair / clothes;
  • something got into the eye, and it is urgent to rinse it.

Such pretexts will not cause unnecessary questions and suspicions, even if your absence is long.

Correct location

If you are at work or in a public place, try to choose the toilet and the farthest stall from your location. This will help you feel more private and comfortable, and minimize the risk of being heard.

Don't forget to lock the door to avoid unpleasant embarrassment.

No time to relax

You can relax in the toilet with a newspaper only at home, in any other place it is better to do everything as quickly as possible. Do not sit around, but concentrate and do everything clearly and quickly. But take your time and control yourself so as not to accidentally make an extra sound.

No noise

Create additional noise to drown out unpleasant sounds. There are several effective ways:

  • turn on the water and, if the sink is nearby, you can put your hand under the stream so that it seems that you are washing yourself;
  • pretend to be talking on the phone - your voice will drown out other sounds and give the impression that you really retired to the toilet to talk;
  • to avoid a gurgling sound, put some toilet paper in the toilet bowl - it will soften the characteristic splash of water;
  • at the most crucial moment, turn on the flush - the noise from the flushed water will drown out other sounds you make;
  • when defecating, both in a small way and in a big way, try to direct everything to the wall of the toilet bowl - this way it will turn out really silent.

Thanks to these methods, no one around will suspect what is happening in the toilet.

Leave no trace

It is very important not to leave any traces behind. To do this, do not forget:

  • flush and make sure the toilet is clean, use a brush if necessary;
  • to prevent the appearance of smell - for this, immediately after something comes out of you, flush the toilet;
  • use an air freshener, but do not spray too much, one “puff” is enough;
  • if there is no freshener, use improvised means: perfume or a drop of liquid soap in the toilet bowl before flushing.

All this will help make your trip to the toilet inconspicuous and help avoid embarrassment.

However, remember that there is nothing indecent in natural needs, even if they caught you in the wrong place.

Intelligent and adequate people will never focus on this and consider it something shameful.

Rules for choosing toilet paper

Regardless of the design and design of the toilet used toilet bowls and lids them, toilet paper is an essential attribute of any restroom.And although few people think about it, the convenience of observing hygiene procedures after going to the toilet and the health of the rectum largely depend on it.

Why can't you sit on the toilet for a long time?

Normally, the process of bowel movement takes from 3 to 5 minutes. In any case, you should not stay in the restroom for more than 15 minutes, as this is harmful and leads to the development of diseases.

Why You Can't Actually Read on the ToiletIf you sit on the toilet for a long time, then because of such a motionless, often bent posture, stagnation of the blood circulation of the pelvic organs begins, and compression of the sciatic nerve also occurs. Those who spend a long time in the toilet have noticed more than once how their legs go numb.

Sitting on the toilet for long periods of time causes:

  • diseases of the rectum (rectocele, hemorrhoids);
  • various diseases of the perineum;
  • distortion of sensations, failures occur in the urge to defecate;
  • stagnation of blood in the veins, which provokes diseases such as thrombosis, varicose veins, lymphostasis;
  • due to bleeding with hemorrhoids, anemia and weakness develop;
  • the appearance of cracks in the anus leads to infection, the development of inflammation.

Hemorrhoids is one of the most dangerous consequences. If it is not treated in the early stages, then nodes begin to form.At later stages, a lump or several will come out, it will no longer be possible to set them back, only surgical intervention is required.

Doctors strongly recommend going to the toilet only if there is an urge, you should not be there unnecessarily. If you can’t empty your bowels, you don’t need to push too hard, this only increases the risk of developing hemorrhoids.

Pregnant women should not strain strongly during bowel movements, as this can even lead to miscarriage, premature birth due to an increase in uterine contraction. In old age, this is fraught with the fact that when you hold your breath, blood flow to the heart and brain decreases. As a result, you can easily lose consciousness from the intense tension in the restroom.

If a small child sits in the toilet for a long time, it is also dangerous for health, as the rectum may fall out. For boys, sitting on the toilet threatens with infertility, because due to impaired blood flow in the pelvic area, the veins of the spermatic cord expand. Poor blood supply to the prostate "promises" prostatitis and impotence. That's why you can't sit on the toilet for a long time.

endure until the end of the day

But there are more serious problems. A third of the world's population is generally deprived of the opportunity to use normal toilets. According to the UN, one in three women do not have access to a safe toilet, and according to WaterAid, a water, sanitation and hygiene organization, girls and women spend a combined 97 billion hours a year searching for a safe place to meet their natural needs4.

For example, in India, where 60% of the population does not have access to latrines, many women are forced to get up before dawn and then wait until dark to go in search of a relatively secluded place where they can relieve themselves of a large or small need5.

And this problem exists not only in poor countries. Representatives of Human Rights Watch, a non-governmental organization based in the United States that monitors human rights, who spoke with girls who worked on tobacco plantations in the United States, found that the poor are forced to "endure all day while trying not to drink anything - and this can lead to dehydration and heat-related illnesses.

Indian women who trade in markets where there are no public restrooms are also forced to endure until the end of the working day7. And in Afghanistan, female police officers go to the bathroom in twos because locker rooms and toilets (which one Human Rights Watch adviser aptly dubbed a "sexual harassment zone") are often either peeped through or not locked.

Short answer:

Reasons for a long stay in the restroom

It has already been said above that, by and large, there are only three reasons that provoke a long stay in the toilet. I will duplicate, this is constipation, diarrhea and cystitis. What can cause these problems with bowel movements and what leads to cystitis, we will analyze in more detail in this article, and so let's start with constipation, the following factors can lead to it:

  • Improper nutrition
  • Side effects of drugs
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Intestinal pathologies of various origins
  • Late visits to the toilet

It is also worth noting that the causes of constipation are not only physiological and pathological. But there are also psychological reasons that can also lead to this disease.

  • Sleep disturbance
  • Insomnia
  • Stress
  • Fear
  • Any psychological discomfort

Among the male sex, there are often those who can sit for hours in the lavatory. For them, this is a kind of place of solitude, where they can read a newspaper or play on a tablet, and also conduct some kind of correspondence by phone.

Why You Can't Actually Read on the Toilet

Now let's talk about diarrhea, there are also various causes that cause this problem, which makes you spend a lot of time in the restroom.

  • infections
  • Dysbacteriosis
  • Enzyme deficiency
  • Poisoning
  • irritable bowel syndrome
  • Side effects of medications

As well as in the causes of constipation, in intestinal upset, there is a psychological factor that can provoke the disorder.

  • emotional experiences
  • stressful situations
  • Panic attacks
  • Depression

Diarrhea, not always caused by food or infection, can also occur in women during or before menstruation.

Why You Can't Actually Read on the Toilet

Let's take a look at the last problem that we talked about, this is cystitis. Why and where does it come from. In general, cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, in which the urge to go to the toilet can be very frequent and extremely painful. Basically, this disease affects the female half of the population. In the male half, it is much less common. Let's look at the causes of cystitis:

  • hypothermia
  • Infection
  • After sex (for women)
  • Pregnancy
  • constipation
  • Self-treatment of any venereal pathologies
  • Large intake of salty foods

As you understand, these causes can lead to cystitis, and cystitis, in turn, can make you spend a considerable amount of time in the toilet, because the pathology is accompanied by frequent urge to urinate.

Don't sit on the toilet for a long time

Remember that in general, it will not take you more than 10 minutes to go to the toilet. The rest of the time you spend there is taken up by your personal affairs. So, you can’t do this, because a long stay in the toilet can lead to diseases. With prolonged sitting on the toilet with bent legs, there is a violation of blood circulation in the pelvis and the sciatic nerve can still be compressed. Below I will tell you about the possible consequences that a long stay in the restroom can lead to:

  • Haemorrhoids
  • Pathologies of the perineum
  • With bleeding hemorrhoids, anemia and weakness may occur
  • The risk of cracking increases many times, then an infection can get there and this will lead to the development of inflammation
  • Thrombosis

As you already understood, at first glance, spending a lot of time is not so scary, but in fact, it is fraught with great consequences with sad complications. Therefore, you should not sit in the toilet and read any book or conduct important negotiations. Do what you came there for and then you can go about your business, but already outside the restroom. Remember that such pathologies as, for example, hemorrhoids or thrombosis are very dangerous and in some cases, it is necessary to resort to surgical intervention to get rid of them. Take care of your health and stay healthy!

Is it possible for girls to sit on the potty for a long time

Why You Can't Actually Read on the Toilet

Prolonged going to the toilet is harmful not only for adults.Children can also develop health problems.

It is considered harmful for a child to sit on a potty or toilet for more than three minutes. Since hemorrhoids and cracks are possible.

In case of difficult bowel movements, you should consult a doctor. Constipation is successfully treated with diets and medications.

Therefore, the rule about not sitting on the toilet for a long time applies to everyone - from little girls to adult men.

Reference! For those who do not want to give up using phones in the toilet, doctors advise washing their hands thoroughly after each visit and wiping the gadget with an antibacterial wipe.

10. Use toilet paper

After sending a small or large need, we use toilet paper. Moreover, it seems to us that the more carefully we carry out a hygienic procedure, the better.

In fact, aggressive wiping the fifth point with toilet paper can only harm, cause irritation, itching and inflammation between the buttocks, anal fissures and exacerbation of hemorrhoids.

Special attention should be paid to the issue of colored and flavored toilet paper, which can cause allergies and contact dermatitis, since it contains dyes and flavors.

If you cannot deny yourself the use of beautiful and fragrant paper, give preference to the one in which:

  • it is the sleeve that is flavored, and not the paper itself,
  • color drawings are printed on the reverse side of the paper, thereby minimizing skin contact with dyes.

Better yet, ditch the toilet paper and use a hygienic shower instead.

9. Use foam sponges to clean the toilet

The porous structure of foam rubber sponges is an excellent environment for the habitat and reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms.Even after cleaning the toilet You will wash the sponge thoroughly using laundry soap, you will not be able to kill all the pests. To do this, you have to boil the sponge. And now the question is: how often do you boil the sponge used when cleaning the toilet room?

We think, infrequently (probably never). We just throw out the broken sponge and take a new one.

What then to wash the toilet? Ershik. It is better to wipe the toilet dry with a paper towel, which can be disposed of without leaving the cash register (or rather, from the toilet bowl).

And, of course, do not forget about the use of rubber gloves when washing the toilet.

3. Strongly pushing during bowel movements

Heavy stools and infrequent trips to the toilet can lead to constipation. And instead of rethinking their diet, drinking regimen and level of physical activity, many take the path of least resistance - pushing and pouting as hard as they can to get rid of stool. This can lead to anal fissures, bleeding hemorrhoids, prolapsed hemorrhoids and rectum, and rectocele in women (protrusion of the rectum towards the back of the vagina). In addition, this leads to overstretching of the anal sphincter, which is fraught with partial or complete incontinence of the contents of the rectum.

What to do?

Stimulate intestinal peristalsis to get rid of constipation!

1. Drink at least 1.5 liters of water at room temperature per day:

  • Drink one glass of water in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Before each meal, drink 100-150 ml of water.
  • Drink a glass of water 2 hours after eating.

2.Enrich your diet with foods rich in plant fiber: fruits, berries, vegetables, wheat and oat bran, legumes.

3. Fight your laziness and sign up for a gym, because physical activity improves intestinal motility. No time for the gym? Run around the house, walk more, work out to your favorite music at home.

sit too long

The toilet is quiet and comfortable. Behind the closed toilet door, you can sit quietly with a book, magazine or smartphone, and no one will disturb you.

However, for privacy, it is better to choose another place. A long time spent in this position puts pressure on the lower rectal veins. Over time, dilatation of the rectal veins can lead to hemorrhoidsaccompanied by discomfort, pain and bleeding during emptying.

In some cases, hemorrhoids can go away within a week, but if you notice blood on paper after a bowel movement, you should see a doctor for treatment.

Hard work around the house

An active household - cleaning, washing, cooking, paying bills, etc., when it all hangs on one person - takes more physical and mental strength than working for money. Accustomed to such a routine, you may not even notice the stress and harmful effects on the body. Moreover, many are convinced that a vacuum cleaner and a rag completely replace fitness and “meaningless” walks.

However, according to the results of studies, doctors say that this is not so. Each of the household activities has its own share of harmfulness, for example, contact with cleaning products and allergens, so it’s definitely not worth it to zealously indulge in them every day.It's best to keep in mind that housework is a "necessary evil" and not your calling in life.

Especially it is necessary to beware of women predisposed to cardiovascular diseases. After a recent Canadian study showing declining health among diligent housewives, even a term has appeared that can be figuratively translated as “home heart”.

Another study among married couples showed that it is harmful for both women and men to take on housework (in excess of the most necessary) in the evening after work. The body needs rest to lower levels of the “stress hormone” cortisol. It is curious that in men it decreases only if they know for sure that today they are freed from household chores.

Rinse off the water with the lid open

Did you know about such a phenomenon as “toilet plume"? It consists of a mixture of small particles of waste and water from the toilet, which is capable of spraying 4.5 meters up when you flush the water.

A study conducted at the University of Oklahoma found that toilet plume plays a role in the transmission of infectious diseases.

In another study University of Leeds found that the bacterium Clostridium difficile can rise up to 25 cm above the toilet seat every time you flush with the lid open.

This bacterium causes infection and leads to diarrhea and nausea. Therefore, always flush the toilet with the lid closed.

house without bathroom

Theoretically, women need public toilets more than men, but in practice, it is men who are better provided with them.In Mumbai, out of 5 million women, more than half live in houses without bathrooms, and there are no free public toilets for women, while men have thousands of free urinals at their disposal throughout the city8.

A 2015 survey found that 12.5% of women living in Mumbai's slums defecate outside at night. They “consider it less dangerous than walking a 58 m long path (the average distance from a house to a public toilet)”9.

But in fact, defecation in the open air is not much safer than going to a public toilet - after all, women are at risk of becoming a victim of rapists hanging around near the places where they usually relieve themselves. A 2016 study found that Indian women who urinate outside are twice as likely to be sexually assaulted by non-partner men than those who use their own bathrooms10.

Rules for reading the sacred text

It is forbidden to pronounce the name of Allah in dirty rooms, as well as to pronounce duas themselves. Say the text before entering and after leaving the toilet. It is impossible to bring your own hygiene items into places where dirt accumulates, without first covering it, wrapping it. Sacred words, appeals to Allah are read wherever, according to the rules of Islam, it is allowed to speak the name of God.

If you don’t know, you forgot the text at the entrance, ask for protection in your own words coming from the heart before going to the toilet. A truly believing person will always be heard, protected from evil.

An important addition to the dua is the observance of the Sunnah when entering the toilet: put the left foot first. On the way out, step on the right foot. So it was described in the Sunnah and God bless you for following the teachings. For ease of remembering: the mosque is entered in reverse.

Dua at the entrance, exit is recommended to be recited from memory. It is permissible to peep the sacred text from a piece of paper, phone, tablet. There are no strict restrictions, prohibitions on reading, using technology. For Islam, there is no difference, the main thing is the fact of conducting a sacred ritual.

You can speak in a whisper or in your mind. There is no need to shout, a prayer before going to the toilet will be heard anyway. It's okay if the words spoken at the entrance to the restroom are heard by strangers, but there is no need to specially tell the texts for show. Dua for protection can only be used by Muslims who honor tradition, faith, religion. Then they will be rewarded for the performed ritual actions. It is pointless to pronounce texts for show, without understanding the meaning, sincere gratitude for protection, improving well-being.

Toilets are the same, queues are different

At first glance, it seems that for the sake of justice and equality, men's and women's public toilets should be equal in size. Traditionally, they were built just like that - the corresponding requirement is even recorded in building codes.

However, since men's toilets have both stalls and urinals, their capacity per square meter above bandwidth female. Equal area in fact is not so equal.

However, an equal number of “person-seats” also does not solve the problem of queues, because women need 2.3 times more time than men to go about their natural needs2. The majority of the elderly and the disabled, the two groups who need more toilet time, are also women.

In addition, women go to the toilet with children more often than men, and also accompany the same disabled and elderly people3. Finally, 20-25% of women who go to the toilet have just critical days, and they have to change tampons or sanitary pads, and this also takes time.

In general, women go to the toilet more than men: firstly, during pregnancy, the capacity of the bladder decreases, and secondly, women suffer from urinary tract infections eight times more often than men, which increases the frequency of visiting the toilet.

Given these anatomical differences between men and women, it is unlikely that even the most ardent zealots of formal (let alone real) gender equality will agree that equal areas of men's and women's latrines are fair.

How to safely use a public toilet?

Why You Can't Actually Read on the Toilet

A public restroom is not the cleanest or most pleasant place to visit, but sometimes the circumstances are such that we need it. Public toilets are used by many people, resulting in a huge accumulation of bacteria and germs. How to make life easier, go to toilets outside the home and feel comfortable? There are some rules for using public toilets that most of us are not aware of. As we said before, catching something in a public toilet is quite difficult if you follow simple rules of hygiene. Here are some tips to help you use public toilets without fear:

  1. Use the cleanest booth.

When you go to the toilet, try to choose a cubicle that looks the cleanest.An interesting fact is that many people prefer booths located away from the front door. So take a look at number one - it might be the best choice.

  1. Don't put your things on the floor.

Germs, dirt from shoes, spitting and urine splashes will get on your belongings and end up on your hands. Don't put your things on the floor or near the sink. It's better if someone holds them while they wait for you outside.

  1. Purchase disposable toilet pads.

It is not necessary to cover the toilet seat with toilet paper. Especially if you have your own seat pads. They can be found in many stores. Dispose of immediately after use. These covers are disposable.

  1. Manage drain wisely.

For obvious reasons, there are a lot of germs on the water release button. Wrap your finger in toilet paper and press the button. Immediately throw the paper in the trash can or straight down the toilet and quickly get out of the toilet.

  1. Wash your hands with hot water.

The most important thing to remember is to wash your hands properly. Just rinsing them with water is not enough

Wash your hands with hot water because it fights germs effectively. You should use soap and wash your hands for approximately 20-30 seconds. If soap is not available, at least use hand sanitizer.

  1. Dry your hands with a paper towel.

Do not dry your hands with hot air. Remember that germs thrive in humid and hot environments. It is better to look for a typewriter with a paper towel.

  1. Don't touch the doorknob without a paper towel or toilet paper.

Doorknobs are also breeding grounds for germs. How often do you think they are touched in one day? Like this.Therefore, before leaving the toilet stall, wrap your hand in toilet paper or a paper towel. Turn the doorknob with the paper and immediately after leaving the toilet, throw the paper into the trash can.

  1. Do not touch the mixer.

After washing, do not touch the mixer. Use a tissue or piece of toilet paper to keep germs out of your hands.

  1. Use a disinfectant.

Always carry hand sanitizer with you. It is useful after going to the toilet, before eating and after taking public transport.

  1. Always use wipes.

Life is unpredictable. Who knows, maybe there won't be paper in the public toilet. It is better to be prudent and expect such situations. So carry a small amount of toilet paper or, even better, wet wipes in your bag.

Constipation, hemorrhoids and toilet posture

Hemorrhoids, bowel pathologies and constipation are phenomena that are predominantly common in countries where bowel movements occur in the "sitting on a chair" type. The reason for this, especially in young people, is not weak muscles, but just increased pressure on the intestines. The development of hemorrhoids protruding from the rectal cavity is one of the mechanisms to compensate for increased internal pressure in the abdominal cavity.

1.2 billion people who are accustomed to defecate while squatting do not suffer from intestinal hemorrhoids. The more developed part of humanity, pushing every day, sooner or later encounters problems, for the solution of which they go to a specialist. Is this really the price to pay for sitting comfortably on a throne-toilet instead of squatting in an unusual way? But if only this!

Doctors are unanimous in their opinion that frequent tension of the abdominal wall and pressure in the toilet are one of the reasons for the development of varicose veins; in addition, the risk of strokes increases and there are even cases of loss of consciousness during bowel movements.

Once, from a friend who was vacationing in France, I received a text message: “The French are crazy! Someone stole toilet bowls from as many as three parking lots!” At first I laughed, because I thought he was not serious. And then I remembered my first visit to France and how, when I first saw a toilet without a seat, I thought to myself looking longingly at a hole in the floor: “Excuse me, please, why should I squat when it would be more logical to put an ordinary toilet.”

In case of difficulties in the process of defecation, it is recommended to create an angle convenient for the obturator sphincters - take squatting position.

In most Asian countries, African and South American countries, people relieve themselves in the position of a weightlifter lifting a barbell, or a skier at the next turn. We, on the contrary, spend time blissfully on the toilet, while reading a newspaper at the same time, folding origami out of toilet paper, or just patiently looking at the opposite wall.

When I read this text to my family, I observed confused looks in which I saw: “So what now, give up faience toilet bowls, make a hole in the floor and relieve yourself there?”. Of course not! It turns out that you can change the position of the muscle while sitting on the toilet in the usual way. The following recommendation is especially useful if urination is carried out with varying difficulties. Here's what you need to do: tilt the upper body slightly forward, put a low stand under your feet - and voila! the correct angle has been found.Now you can read the newspaper with peace of mind, play with toilet paper or look at the surrounding objects!

Don't look at your chair

Of course, looking at your chair is not the most pleasant sight, but its appearance can tell a lot about what is happening in your body.

  • Soft, smooth, sausage-shaped stool is a sign of good gastrointestinal health. Soft lumps with clear edges are also acceptable. But, if the bowel movements are hard and lumpy, you need to increase the amount of fiber and liquid in your diet.

  • stool that comes out like pee, on the contrary, may indicate a mild case of food poisoning or intolerance, an infection, or a more serious illness such as Crohn's disease or celiac disease.

  • floating chair most often indicates poor absorption of nutrients or excess gas in the intestines.

  • Pencil-thin stools can be a sign of an intestinal tumor.

Monitor the contents of your stool and contact your doctor if you notice that the stool is black or bright red (a sign of bleeding) or has other drastic changes.

Reasons for prolonged bowel movements

Nowadays, smartphones and tablets not only make life easier, but sometimes interfere with physiological needs. So, these devices distract an increasing number of people from the process of defecation, making it too long.

Why You Can't Actually Read on the ToiletSitting on the toilet is bad!

There are two main reasons why a person spends a lot of time in the toilet: diarrhea and constipation. In the first case, the urges are so frequent that it is easier not to leave the restroom at all. In the second case, the exit of feces is difficult.

Constipation is a very common problem, affecting up to 20% of children (equally boys and girls) and up to 50% of adults. It is caused by many factors:

  • malnutrition, primarily a lack of fiber in the diet;
  • non-compliance with the drinking regime, dehydration;
  • sedentary lifestyle;
  • untimely visit to the restroom;
  • tumors in the intestines;
  • taking various medications (antibiotics, antifungal and anti-inflammatory drugs);
  • spinal injury;
  • prolonged use of laxatives, which causes a decrease in intestinal tone and the development of dysbacteriosis.

With regard to hemorrhoids, there is a vicious circle at all: this disease is provoked by constipation, and with its development, they only intensify.

In addition to physical causes, there are also psychological factors.

Problems with defecation lead to:

  • non-compliance with the rest regime;
  • insomnia;
  • fear and nervous tension;
  • any psychological discomfort.

Men sit on the toilet for a long time also because the toilet for them is a place of solitude, an opportunity to step back from all problems at least for a while. Representatives of the strong half do not have enough time for themselves, as evidenced by numerous studies.
