What to do when the gas stove does not burn well
As mentioned earlier, if the user noticed a malfunction in the operation of the gas stove, he must first determine the causes of the problem, and only then take any action (cleaning or changing the burners).
For any problem in the operation of gas equipment, it is recommended to call the master.In fact, individual operations can be done independently. For example, it is allowed clean the burner with your own hands from soot and other contaminants, because such soot adversely affects the combustion mode of the air-gas mixture.

What steps are involved in flushing the stove burner? This operation usually includes the following manipulations:
- Removal of the grate covering the burner with which there was a problem from the surface of the hob.
- Removing the cover (diverter) from the surface of the burner and removing the burner itself (to get to the nozzle, you may need to unscrew a couple of screws).
- Removal of accumulated dirt and grease residues.
- Cleaning the burner and its components in a cleaning solution. The recipe for its preparation is simple - you need to mix detergent with water in a ratio of 10 to 1. It is advisable to leave the components of the burner in the mixture for a while, so it is much easier to achieve dirt removal. For more thorough washing, it is recommended to use a toothbrush and a toothpick. After completion of the procedure, all parts must be dried.
- Flushing the nozzle and cleaning the hole with a toothpick. Thorough drying.
- Reverse connection of elements and setting in the same place.
If the stove is equipped with electric ignition, it can also cause interruptions in its functioning.
If the flushing performed did not bring results and there is still combustion instability or no flame is observed at all, then it is very likely that the cause is a malfunction of the electrical ignition. It is easy to confirm the assumption. One press of the ignition button is enough when the light is off. If the color of the spark is yellow or orange, then the block must be completely replaced - it is not repairable.
Why does a gas stove burner burn badly
Interruptions in the operation of the burner are the most common problem when operating a gas stove. Signs of its occurrence are a change in the shade of the fire that comes out of the burner, as well as a sharp increase or decrease in its size. It is not considered the norm and the situation when there is a separation of the flame or some strange sounds appear. Recall that gas stoves are famous for their noiselessness.
Usually, any malfunctions in the operation of the device are the result of a number of things. The most common reasons are:
- violation of the internal structure of the unit;
- gas hose damage;
- lack of gas fuel;
- low gas pressure;
- incorrect burner selection.
The burner does not burn well and makes sounds

A burner is an integral part of any gas stove, a key work item needed for cooking. Outwardly, this is the end of the gas valve. The burner is involved in mixing and preparing the air-gas mixture required for normal operation. It takes on the maximum heat load. Over time, due to thermal exposure, the components of this assembly are deformed, their fit to each other becomes loose. All these changes are reflected in the combustion regime - it is disturbed, since air entering through the organized slots interferes with the process. Flame failure occurs. The work of the burner begins to be accompanied by the development of soot, the color of the outgoing flame turns red. Another consequence is that the instrument generates inappropriate noise.
It should also be remembered that over time there is a gradual narrowing of the holes (nozzles).The reason is that carbon deposits form during prolonged use (it is formed by food residues and household detergents, fatty particles). A dirty burner is easy to clean thoroughly. If it is deformed, an urgent replacement should be the solution.
Why does the gas stove burner not light up
A weak and intermittent spark with a predominantly yellow color indicates the need to replace the electric ignition unit, which is located inside the gas stove. Replacing the electric ignition unit takes place with the analysis of the upper part of the stove, so this work should be entrusted to us - gas stove repairmen. It is easy to determine the wear of the block: at night, turn off the lights in the kitchen and turn on the electric ignition. A yellow or orange spark is a characteristic sign of wear on the block, which will most likely need to be replaced. A bright blue spark clearly indicates serviceability.
6 reasons why the gas stove burner does not work.
When not all burners spark, most likely a complete replacement of the spark plugs will be required. For a good result, all four candles should be changed. To replace ceramic spark plugs, the hob must be completely dismantled, but please note that in order not to aggravate the problem, repair of the hob should be entrusted to professional hands. After removing the upper hob, disconnect the spark plugs from the impulse unit. From the side of the burners, the spark gaps (candles) will be secured with retaining rings, be careful not to lose them. Install new spark gaps to replace the old ones and connect to the ignition unit.
If the burner of a gas stove is clogged with food, debris from burning gas or cleaning powder, it will be difficult for the igniter to ignite the gas on the burner.To fix this problem, clean the burner and nozzle with a wooden toothpick. Do not use a paper clip or sewing needle, they can easily break off during cleaning and clog the channel.
Also, poor switching on of the burner can occur due to high humidity around the appliance and in particular the gas burner. Water is a good conductor of electricity, so the spark can "beat" in a completely different direction. Unplug the gas stove from the mains and wipe dry the burner. You can use a hair dryer, only use cold air when drying to avoid condensation.
Tip: if the electric ignition constantly clicks after wet cleaning, disconnect the stove for three days. The plate will dry out naturally and the ignition work will be restored.
Why does the gas on the stove go out?
There are only two main reasons that the gas stove has ceased to hold the flame:
- The burner nozzles are clogged. Their mechanical cleaning with a wire or a needle is required.
- Faulty gas control system.
Often the gas control system breaks down because the thermocouple is simply mechanically worn out, this is quite possible in stoves that have been used longer than its warranty period. Replacing this element brings the stove into working condition.
Another reason could be that the thermal sensor head has moved out of the thermal zone (normally located near the flame zone, but not in it). If you return it to the desired position, then its work will resume.
The solenoid valve may also be faulty. In the normal state, it starts working 5 seconds after the thermocouple is heated.A longer turn-on time indicates a malfunction. Its replacement is required.
Do not repair the gas stove yourself. This can lead to disastrous consequences. Trust the professionals in this case.
Nozzle not suitable
The nozzle, or jet, is the main element of the burner responsible for the flow of gas. Burners in all modern gas hobs have different power, so they differ in diameter. It is the nozzle that is responsible for supplying the appropriate amount of gas: a part with a small hole is intended for a small burner, with a large one for the largest one.
Nozzles differ in purpose. They are:
- for operation from bottled gas;
- for work from the main gas.
Externally, the products are the same, however, the jet designed for bottled gas has a smaller hole than the jet for the main
This is important to consider, since when installing a gas panel in a country house and connecting it to a cylinder, the nozzle should be replaced. If the procedure is not performed, the burner will smoke
As a rule, modern devices have two nozzles in the kit, so that in the event of a change in the source of gas production, the stove can be adjusted.
When smoking due to an unsuitable nozzle, change it. If you have lost a replacement kit, buying the right products is the best option. Look in the documentation for what diameter of the jet is needed. Sometimes the necessary spare parts cannot be found, then select nozzles with a smaller diameter and try.
The composition of the gas has changed
Rarely, but it happens that the composition of the main gas changes and smoking occurs. This problem, as you understand, cannot be fixed on its own.To make sure that it is gas distribution stations that are responsible for soot, a survey of neighbors will help: if everyone has such problems, then wait for corrections or contact the relevant authorities.
The smell of gas
The appearance of the smell of gas is one of the most dangerous troubles that can lead to an explosion, fire, and poisoning. It indicates a depressurization of the fuel supply system and can occur both when the equipment is turned off, and when it is turned on or during operation.
The first thing to do in such a situation is to turn off the gas supply and ventilate the room! Only then can you start examining your stove. You may not be able to fix the breakdown on your own, but you can identify the source of the leak.
Soapy water will help to determine the place of depressurization. Apply it to all joints of pipes and hoses, both outside the stove and inside it. Where there is leakage, bubbles will appear.
To understand how to fix this type of failure, you need to determine the type of connection. If the threaded connection is depressurized:
- disassemble the damaged assembly, check the integrity of all parts by cleaning them from winding or old sealant;
- apply fresh sealant or make a new winding;
- collect all parts and recheck.
If the connection with the gasket is depressurized:
- disassemble the leaking assembly;
- install a new gasket;
- collect the parts and retest.
The most common cause of this type of malfunction is incorrect flame adjustment. Less commonly, the problem is a breakdown of the connections that connect when the stove is turned on:
- nozzle installation points;
- places of connection of tubes from taps to nozzles;
- joints between tubes and nozzle bodies.
In order to determine the leak in this case, it is necessary to remove the burners, remove the cover, reinstall the burners in their places (without the cover), apply soapy water to the joints and carefully light the burners in turn. Be careful: bubbles will appear at the leak point, indicating a depressurization. The reason for such a malfunction may be the destruction of the sealing washers on the nozzles, too loose tightening of the connections, a defect in the sealing ring at the points of attachment of the tubes
The reason for such a malfunction may be the destruction of the sealing washers on the nozzles, too loose tightening of the connections, a defect in the sealing ring at the points of attachment of the tubes.
If you inspect the stove and do not find a leak, the cause of the smell may be improper connection of the equipment to the gas source. In this case, do not try to fix the situation yourself. You need to call a specialist!
Electrical equipment not working
All equipment
If all electrical equipment does not work at the stove, then the reason is most likely that there is a violation in the supply of electricity. There may be no contact in the socket, the plug or wire may be damaged, the wiring inside the stove may be broken. First you need to check the health of the outlet by turning on another electrical appliance. If the outlet is working, then the stove must be disassembled. Using a tester, we check the health of the wiring. If mounting contacts are provided in the plate, then we check the presence of conductivity between the plug contact and the mounting contact. If there are no such contacts, then you will have to cut the wire, check it, then connect it back.

Hello, I have a question: stove: "Kaiser". When you put the pan on the burner (the biggest one), there is a strong smell of kerosene. Without a frying pan, it burns without smell. The rest of the burners light up normally. The smelling burner burns with yellow ends, with characteristic jerks. Thank you in advance for your response.

If you have a faulty electric ignition
They are now equipped with almost all devices, which has a positive effect on ease of use. Let's decide for a start how electric ignition is arranged and works.
Electric ignition consists of four parts:
- transformer (block) operating from the mains for 220 V;
- electrical wire leading from the transformer to the ignition mechanism;
- ceramic candle;
- the ignition button located on the control panel next to the rotary switches.
The mechanism of operation of electric ignition is as follows:
- When the button is pressed, the circuit closes;
- The transformer generates current for the spark;
- The impulse is fed through the wires to the gas burner;
- The ceramic candle produces a spark and the burner ignites.
It is noteworthy that the candle fires on all burners without exception, however, only the one to which the gas goes is ignited.
It is very important to ensure that there is always one voltage in the network - 220 V. To protect your stove, you can buy a household voltage regulator, which will save you from unexpected power surges
Otherwise, short circuits and unstable operation of the network negatively affect the electric ignition, and can cause a breakdown. If your hob is experiencing the following problems, then the problem is with the ignition:
- turn on the button, but the ignition does not work;
- sparks one or all spark plugs;
- you release the button, and the ignition works.
The button is turned on, but the ignition does not work
The first and most common cause is contamination of the mechanism button and / or burner with dirt and combustion waste. Cooking entails splattering food all over the stove, so this problem is not uncommon.Clean the ignition button, wipe the burner clean, clean the nozzle with a needle or any other thin stick, wait until everything is dry.
One or all spark plugs spark
If the spark plugs on all burners sparkle orange or yellow, work intermittently, then the problem may be in a faulty electric ignition unit. It needs to be replaced, but it is extremely difficult to do it yourself. The block is located in the middle of the panel, it needs to be disassembled, the contacts disconnected, so it is better to trust professionals in this situation. To finally make sure that the fault is in the transformer, do the following:
- in the dark, with the lights off, turn on the ignition button;
- if there is a spark on all burners of the color described above (yellow, orange) - the unit definitely needs to be replaced;
- if the spark is blue, the block is good.
If the integrity of the spark plug is broken or its stem is oxidized, it will sparkle orange or yellow, intermittently. This is solved by replacing the faulty spark plug. However, such problems are quite rare and this is due to the design of the candle itself. It is a steel wire, one millimeter thick, enclosed in porcelain. For a candle to become unusable, it must be in very unfavorable conditions of high humidity or be subjected to a blow.
You release the button and the ignition fires
This may be due to a faulty transformer or contact oxidation.
When washing the panel, boiling water, the liquid can penetrate into the middle of the device, onto the contacts. With constant leaks and heat coming from the included burners, the contacts are oxidized. They get rough, can stick together, break. Their technical cleaning and high-quality drying will help.
What to do when the gas stove does not burn well
As noted above, if the burners are intermittent, it is necessary to understand why this is happening and, based on this, make a decision to either flush or replace the burner.
Is it possible to fix the damage yourself

How can I flush the burner? The flush operation looks like this:
- Remove the grate from the surface of the stove that covers the faulty burner.
- Remove the divider (cover) from the surface of the burner and pull out the burner itself.
- In order to get to the nozzle, it may be necessary to unscrew a few screws. However, it depends on the plate model.
- Surely a certain amount of debris has accumulated under the burner, which must be removed.
- Washing the burner and the parts included in its composition. To do this, you need to prepare a cleaning solution. It contains 10 parts of any dishwashing detergent and 1 part of water. It makes sense to keep the components of the burner in this composition for some time. The duration of soaking is determined by the degree of contamination. For thorough processing of the divider, it is advisable to use a toothbrush and toothpicks. After all parts are washed, they must be thoroughly dried.
- The nozzle also needs to be washed, a toothpick can be used to clean the hole.
- After all parts are dry, you can reassemble and install the nozzle and burner in place.
If electric ignition is installed on the stove, then it can also cause unstable burner operation.

If the spark is yellow or orange, then the entire unit will most likely need to be replaced. This device is beyond repair.
Gas hob repair
In a gas hob, you can only repair the electric ignition and the gas control system on your own. With them, in principle, the main problems arise. Since the gas hob with electric ignition is also connected to electricity, in case of general problems with the electrical part (piezo ignition does not work at all), first check the power supply at the outlet, inspect the integrity of the wire. If everything is fine here, you can go deeper.
You can repair the gas hob yourself
Electric ignition button does not work (no spark)
Electric ignition is a convenient thing, but from time to time the spark stops “jumping” and the fire on some burner does not light up. You can light it by pressing the button of another burner. They are connected in parallel and when you press one, there is a spark on all burners. But this situation is abnormal and the spark must be restored. Repair of the hob in this case is not very difficult. There are several reasons:
- The candle is clogged with grease, dirt, detergent residues. It must be thoroughly cleaned and dried.
-
Check the power wires that go to this candle. To do this, remove the burners, the top panel. If it is glass-ceramic, it can be planted on a sealant, we cut it and remove the front panel. If it is metal, unscrew the fixing bolts. Under the front panel, we are interested in power wires. It is necessary to check for insulation breakdown to ground (ground). To do this, you can press the ignition button several times, if there is a breakdown, a spark will jump in that place. If there is no visible damage, we call the wires with a multimeter for integrity and for a breakdown with the ground. We replace the found faulty conductors with similar cross-sections.
- If the conductors are intact, the contacts are normal everywhere, the problem may be in the button. We disassemble it, clean it, put everything in its place.
- Another reason is problems with the electric ignition transformer. O has two windings, each of which feeds two burners. If you measure the resistance between two opposite burners, it should be about 600 ohms - this is the resistance of the transformer windings. If it is lower, most likely the cause is a stuck (dirty) button. We take them apart, clean them, put them in place.
What else can be done is to check the contacts and soldering. Contacts, if necessary, tighten or clean from dirt, soldering, if cold is found, solder. How can you tell if a solder is cold? If you pry the tin with something hard (the end of a multimeter probe, for example), it moves or flies off, there may be cracks in it. In this case, warm up the soldering iron, re-melt the solder.
After ignition, the flame goes out on the burner
Many modern gas stoves or hobs have a gas control function. Near each burner there is a sensor that monitors the presence of a flame. If there is no flame, the gas supply stops. The function is useful, but sometimes problems begin - after ignition, when you release the on/off knob, the flame goes out. The fact is that the sensor - a thermocouple - is dirty or out of order and "does not see" the flame.
Where is the thermocouple located in a gas stove
First you need to try to clean all the sensors. They quickly become overgrown with grease during operation, so they require periodic cleaning. First, turn off the power, remove the burners, remove the handles, unscrew the front panel.We find a thermocouple on a non-working burner. This is a small metal pin located close to the gas burner. In some models of gas hobs, it can simply be inserted, in others there is a latch. It is necessary to get the sensor out of the socket and clean it from contamination. Use regular kitchen dishwashing chemicals or something stronger
It's important to get results. We wash the sensors, dry them, put them in place. You can check your work
You can check your work.
Sometimes it happens that even after cleaning, some burners do not work. This means that the thermocouple has failed. In this case, the repair of the gas-powered hob is the replacement of the thermocouple. You already know how to get to it, but it turns off simply: you need to remove the corresponding wires from the block. Take out the old sensor and put in the new one. We put the cover back in place, check the work. That, in fact, is all.
One important point: if your equipment is under warranty, you should not repair it yourself, otherwise you will be denied warranty repairs.
The burner burns as long as you hold the control knob
If the fire stops burning immediately as soon as you release the regulator knob, then the surest cause of the malfunction is a breakdown in the gas control system.
It doesn’t matter what brand your appliance is: Gorenje, Indesit, Bosch or another, the problem that the hob or oven does not hold gas when you release the handle happens to all stoves
Gas control is an automatic system required to ensure safety and reduce the risk of propane leakage. Its design, from the point of view of the principle of operation, is simple: it has a small copper part, shaped like a coin, a thermocouple.It is fixed on an electronic igniter, which is triggered by pressing and turning the knob. This sensor (thermocouple) heats up due to the flow of fuel and begins to release a charge that is transferred to the valve. If there is no signal between the parts, the system turns off the supply and, accordingly, the flame goes out.
Most often, such a malfunction consists in the lack of contact between the thermocouple and the solenoid valve. Less often, there are cases when the torch of fire simply does not reach the temperature sensor.
In some cases, the craftsmen do not exclude contamination of the thermocouple, which, due to the presence of a layer of dirt, does not heat up well. To avoid such situations, you should always monitor cleanliness, carry out timely cleaning and, if possible, avoid "leakage" of cooked food.
What will be required for repair work
First of all, a person who undertook the repair of household appliances must have at least minimal knowledge in the field of electrics. Without this, it is simply impossible to properly carry out repair activities. In addition, before starting work, it is necessary to comply with all safety rules.
For these purposes, it is important to have the necessary tools. If you need to dismantle the hob, you will definitely need a set of screwdrivers. Among them should be present:
Among them should be present:
In addition, care should be taken that they are all of different thicknesses, since each model of a glass-ceramic hob from different manufacturers differs in fastening.
Also, for dismantling the panel and its further repair, the following tool should be prepared:
- open-end and box wrenches;
- pliers;
- wire cutters;
- soldering iron;
- side cutters;
- insulating tape.
Also, without fail, you will need special equipment that is designed to measure voltage and resistance.
Causes of malfunctioning burners
The very name of the electric stove suggests that the principle of its operation is based on the use of electrical energy. If the stove stops heating or heats up weakly, it means that a breakdown has occurred in some place in the electrical circuit. Before contacting the master, check the operability of the socket, plug, and cord. Perhaps they are the cause of the malfunction. If everything is in order with them, then you need to look for other reasons for the breakdown. And there may be several:
- Long period of operation at maximum power. With this method of operation, natural wear of parts occurs. One or more heating elements may burn out, a fuse may blow, terminal contacts may oxidize, etc. The master will be able to detect the breakdown and fix it.
- Faulty power switch. This could happen when water gets on the switch contacts or as a result of mechanical wear of the part.
- The control board is not working. To decide whether the board can be repaired or whether it will have to be replaced should be a service center specialist.
