How does the device work?
The pump, reducer, pipes and fittings leading from the pool and back to the bowl are connected in such a way as to form a closed water flow system. The branch pipe through which water is taken from the pool is mounted in such a way that it is taken from the surface of the tank.
The pipes for the intake and return of water to the pool must be located relative to each other in such a way that “dead” zones do not form in the reservoir - places where water does not circulate.
The operation of the sand filter depends on the mode:
- "Filtration": water is taken from the pool, and under the pressure of the pump is pumped through the sand. The purified water is then released back into the pool.
- "Backwash": water is taken from the tank, but pumped through the filler in the opposite direction. The waste water is then discharged from the cycle into the sewer.
- "Circulations". The pump pumps water from the tank through the pump back into the tank without passing it through the filler.
This article will tell you about the operating modes of the sand filter.
Stage number 2 - assembly of the filter structure
Generally, homemade sand filter for swimming pools is not such a complicated thing, you just need to do everything carefully and conscientiously. The pump power is selected according to the volume of the tank, on average, water should scroll through the filter three times a day, no less. With a pump capacity of 40 liters per minute, three cycles of continuous cleaning will easily fit into ten hours. At the same time, it would be nice to provide for a so-called power reserve, since the filtration system for the pool acts under pressure on pumping or pumping out.
So, for starters, we prepare a container: we drill a couple of holes in the barrel, coinciding with the diameters of the drives.
You can even filter water through a plastic bowl with holes made in it and wrapped in several layers of nylon. A hose is also mounted on this design, and all cracks are insulated with sealant or hot melt adhesive.Even such a primitive do-it-yourself sand filter for a pool must be equipped with a pressure gauge that helps determine the pressure in the system. And if it starts to exceed the permissible values, then this means one thing - it's time to clean the filler by backwashing.
To wash the sand for the pool, all that is required is to rearrange the hoses in places. In this case, water from the pump begins to flow to the outlet of the filter, and contaminants are removed through the inlet.
The barrel filter maker should remember to check that the lid is secure. If it turns out to be weak, then it will surely be torn off under pressure. Options for getting out of this situation: try to upgrade the mount, or rearrange the pump hoses so that the pumping mechanism does not pump, but only sucks the liquid out of the barrel.
Unit No. 1 - sand filter
A device of this type is filled with sand, consisting of grains of sand of a cubic shape. In order to lighten the weight of the filter container, it is made of polyester or thermoplastic. Sand filters for swimming pools work according to the following principle:
- water from the pool tank is poured into a separate container;
- then it enters the filter through the pipe;
- under the pressure of water, it moves through the sand for filters, where the smallest contaminants are retained;
- after which it flows down the outlet pipe into the reservoir.
After a certain period of time and after active operation, the filter becomes clogged again, which becomes clear from the readings of the pressure gauge, indicating an increase in pressure. That is why once every fourteen days the installation needs to be rinsed with a reverse flow of water.And after two or three years, a complete replacement of the sand in the pool filter is required.
Why clean pool water?
Water in the warm season in any reservoir is slowly polluted by organic matter, if it is not circulated, not filtered. A natural reservoir is a complex natural circulation system where groundwater goes into the ground, and its supply is constantly supplemented by precipitation. In nature, filtration is carried out in a natural way, and in the country pool this has to be done through special devices.

The organic sediment rapidly decomposes, provoking smoldering, and microscopic greenish bacteria start up in this environment - light blue-green aquatic plants and greenish euglena. This process is known as "water bloom", which becomes cloudy and greenish when exposed to light. This process is well known to aquarists, and the same thing happens in the pool if there is no filtration.
In addition to this, plant debris falls on the surface of the water - dry branches, ovary, flowers and leaves. Bird feces, sand and small particles of soil brought by the wind fall to the bottom of the pool. Uninvited guests are not uncommon in an unnatural reservoir - larvae of mosquitoes and dragonflies, falling insects (beetles, wasps, grasshoppers). Unable to get out of the water, they drown and disintegrate. This whole garbage not only spoils the water, but destroys the aesthetics of the pool.
Tip: A filter with a pool pump will help to improve the situation. The filtered water is not drained, it is cleaned and returned to the tank. Large plant debris from the tank is removed with a net or a special bin for overflowing water.To prevent smoldering and flowering of water, special chemical additives help. Mud from the bottom is removed with a water vacuum cleaner or a homemade siphon from a hose.

We install a sand filter for the pool with our own hands
Having dealt with the criteria for choosing a unit, it is necessary to consider the types of filters available on the market with no less pedantry.

It is easy to clean the sand filter - just hold each plate under a stream of thermal water. Buying a cartridge version is recommended for owners of small pools.
If we talk about other filter models, they look like this:
- Sand - made in the form of a hollow barrel. Inside it is quartz sand, crushed into many small fractions. Although the system is more expensive than the cartridge version, it is more efficient. As the water passes through the filter, all impurities settle into the fillers. Replacement is carried out no more than 2 times a year.
- Sand-flushing - unlike the option mentioned above, the scheme presented here implies the possibility of flushing the device on its own. To do this, hold the filled barrel under running water.
The volume of the pool and the presence of potential sources of pollution nearby are 2 criteria on the basis of which the type of filter is selected. The budget model is represented by a cartridge device suitable for small pools. In other cases, it is better to use devices where the only filler is fine quartz sand.
Ratings of the best models
To obtain a high degree of water purification in the pool, when choosing a filtering installation, it is recommended to pay attention to the products of companies that occupy a leading position in the market.Among the models that make up the top list of pool filters, there are models of different volume and design
But to evaluate the quality and performance, we chose models that have been on the top of consumer preference lists for several seasons.
Crystal Clear Intex 26644
Model of a popular trade mark of the producer of household frame pools. The advantage of this model is high performance with small dimensions. The declared capacity of 4.5 m3 is enough for cleaning pools up to 25 m3. Connection to a standard pool is carried out using branded 38 mm hoses. The model has the ability to work in one of 6 modes. For convenience of use in model the timer and the manometer is provided. Krystal Clear Intex 26644 can be filled with both quartz and glass sand with a fraction of 0.4-0.8 mm. For a standard load, you need 12 kg of ordinary sand, for glass - 8 kg.
The manufacturer's instructions say that one refueling is enough for 3-5 years of operation.
The design is made on the platform. The case is made of impact-resistant polyethylene. Installation differs in the compact sizes by convenient connection to regular connectors of pools of Intex. The instruction, in addition to the description, also has a disk with a film - instructions for connecting and maintaining the installation.

Bestway 58495
The most compact pool filter model. Productivity is 3.4 m3 of water per hour. A 6-position valve is built into the polypropylene tank. The timer provides automatic switching on and off of the unit.The built-in pressure gauge allows you to control the pressure inside the tank.
A feature of the model is the presence of a built-in ChemConnect dispenser. The device allows you to automatically add disinfecting chemicals to the filtered water. The design provides an additional filter to trap undissolved particles. This function provides long-term protection of the pump against damage.
Branch pipes for connecting 3.8 cm hoses make the filter universal for connecting to most popular models of frame pools. The volume of sand to fill in the filter housing is 9 kg.

Aquaviva FSF350
One of the largest filters for home pools. To load, you will need 20 kg of quartz sand with a grain size of 0.5-1 mm. The tank of the filter unit is made of fiberglass. The case material is not afraid of ultraviolet radiation, it can be installed outdoors.
The system has standard connection types with 50 mm hoses. Productivity is 4.3 m3 of water per hour. The housing withstands pressure up to 2.5 bar.
In comparison with other models, Aquaviva FSF350 operates at a water temperature of +43 degrees.
The system has a modular design. The filter housing and pump are mounted on a common platform. The manufacturer recommends using the unit for pools with a volume of 15-18 m3.

Hayward Powerline Top
This is the most famous and high-quality filter for home pools. This model provides water filtration with a capacity of 5 to 14 m3 per hour. Such a variation in indicators is due to the fact that the pump is selected for this filter depending on the volume of the pool. Recommended bowl size for Hayward Powerline Top is 25 m3.The design is equipped with a standard 6 position valve and pressure gauge. The body is made of shock-resistant polypropylene and is able to withstand a pressure of 2 bar.
For the filter to work, 25 kg of quartz sand with a fraction of 0.4-0.8 kg will be required. All Hayward powerline Top models are connected using 38 mm hoses.

Nuances of operation and maintenance
Those wishing to build their own pool in the country should think in advance and provide for ways to maintain it. Water should be filtered constantly, especially if it is initially dirty (for example, rusty) or has managed to turn green after a forced downtime.
If the water is clean, then in order to save electricity, you can turn it on twice a day for 5-6 hours or once for 10-12 hours. During this time, the entire volume of water in an average reservoir of 15-20 cubic meters. m will change twice.
During operation, the filter element is covered with a layer of contaminants, which interferes with the further operation of the unit. Therefore, the sand should be washed.
A film is formed on the surface of the filter element - caked dirt. This layer prevents the passage of water and increases the pressure in the system.
Procedure #1 - Flushing the Filler
The frequency of cleaning sand from pollution depends on the intensity of use of the pool, the degree of contamination of the contents, the composition and amount of chemicals used. You can use the recommendation to rinse the filler every 7-10 days. However, for a pressure-type filtration system, the readings of the pressure gauge should be monitored.
The normal pressure in the system is 0.8 bar. If the indicator has reached 1.3 bar, then the sand needs to be washed.
For the cleaning process, it is necessary to ensure the flow of water under pressure into the lower chamber of the filter - into the intake device. To do this, they arrange the appropriate wiring in advance, so that you can change the direction of the flow by simply switching the taps.
Regardless of the method of connecting the system, the filter needs periodic cleaning of the filler from a dense contaminating layer. To do this, ensure the flow of clean water from the bottom up and the output of dirty water to the sewer or a separate tank
Please note that in this scheme the outlet valve to the pool is closed
If the wiring is not mounted, then you can rearrange the hoses. For the injection system, the hose is removed from the upper fitting and attached to the lower one (to the fitting connected to the water intake). If the pump is on suction, then throw the hoses from the pump.
The suction is disconnected from the fitting of the intake device and connected to a source of clean water or lowered into the pool. Pressure - connected to the outlet of the water intake. A hose is attached to the upper fitting to drain the flushing liquid into the sewer or into a separate container.
The pump is turned on, and the water under pressure loosens and washes away the accumulated layer of dirt. Rinse the sand until the drained washing liquid becomes clear.
Procedure #2 - Replacing the sand in the filter
Gradually, the filter element is heavily clogged with fatty and organic substances, skin particles and hair. Such sand is no longer able to provide proper water purification. Therefore, it needs to be completely replaced.
The filler is replaced as follows:
Close the tap on the water supply.
The remaining water is pumped as far as possible - if the pump is on supply, then a lot of liquid will remain in the filter.
Turn off the power to the pump.
Scoop out all the filler
Contaminated sand is simply teeming with bacteria, so this should be done carefully and with gloves, avoiding contact with mucous membranes and eyes.
Pour some water into the filter tank - about 1/3. The liquid will soften the mechanical impact of falling sand on structural elements.
Add the required amount of filter element.
Open the water supply.
Perform a backwash
If the hose for purified water is simply thrown over the side of the pool, then you can skip this step and drain some of the liquid into the ground when the system is started up.
Enable filtering mode.
When using quartz sand as a filler, its complete replacement will be required every three years.
To increase maximum efficiency, the filtration system is installed in the immediate vicinity of the pool. At the same time, for ease of maintenance, access to the unit must be free.
Do-it-yourself sand filter manufacturing and assembly steps
-
In a barrel (metal or plastic), we need to make two holes with a diameter that will correspond to the drives. If the barrel is metal, then the holes can be made with a special tool or an 80 watt soldering iron. We coat the inserted sleds with insulating sealant. Since a collection of purified water will be located at the bottom, the spacing of the surges is not important. From the container with the filter, water will go up through the installed hose, and through the second run it will pour back into the pool.
Plastic barrel with holes and sealed gussets
-
If there is no water intake, then instead of it we can take an ordinary round plastic bowl, make small holes in it, wrap it in two or three layers with nylon tights. The mesh should be much finer than the sand fraction.
Coarse filter in a can
- We fill the can with sand and close it.
-
We take the purchased pump and connect everything into a common system: from the reservoir, the hose will go to the filter, and then to the pump. After that, he falls into a can of clean sand and back into the pool.
We connect the pump with hoses to the system
-
Before installing the filter, it is necessary to collect all the sediment from the bottom of the pool using a pump and a hose, on which you need to put on a regular brush from a household vacuum cleaner.
Filter system connection
-
Attach a manometer. If the pressure level in the system increases by 30% more than what was shown at start-up, then this means that it is necessary to clean the sand using the backwash method.
Sand filter pressure gauge
-
We put the hoses on hot glue. We install a mesh for injection inside the barrel, which will have to break a large jet, so that water will evenly fall on the sand.
Complete sand filter
- To wash the sand, we just need to swap the hoses. Thus, water from the pump will go to the “outlet” of the filter, and all contamination will be removed through the “inlet”.
-
If the lid on the barrel is loose, then it can simply be torn off under great pressure. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to strengthen the factory fastening of the lid, as well as rearrange the hoses so that the pump does not pump water into the barrel, but, on the contrary, removes it.

The nuances of operating a sand filter
After we have assembled a reliable filter, it is necessary to install it correctly and start operating it.
- The most important thing is to ensure good water circulation in the pool. If there are a large number of “dead zones” in the reservoir, then a large amount of dirt and microorganisms will accumulate there. Then all filter work will be simply inefficient.
- The filter should take water to a greater extent from the very top of the water in the pool, since it is on it that a lot of dirt, microorganisms and large debris accumulate. We can place the drainage system anywhere in the reservoir and at any depth.
- A person must have free access to the cleaning filter, not blocked by other devices, otherwise we will not be able to timely replace the sand.
Device care
To flush the sand filter, turn the valve to the back pressure position and turn on the pool pump. After the installation has been cleaned, the sand compaction mode is activated, a lot of pressure is created for a minute, after which the pump turns off and turns on automatically for normal operation. In order for the pond not to become cloudy, it is necessary that all the liquid passes through the filter at least 2-3 times a day.
When using a sand filter, the following rules must be observed:
- never switch the valve when the filter is under pressure;
- when switching the valve, make sure that it is firmly in its position in the grooves, otherwise the valve may break under pressure;
- you can switch the mode only when the filter pump for the pool is turned off;
- the pump needs air, so do not cover it with any objects;
- it is recommended to install the pump no closer than 1 meter from the reservoir itself.
Does the pool need a filter?
Owners of small inflatable and stationary pools often do not think about water purification. After bathing, it is simply used for household needs and watering the garden.
If necessary, the container is refilled with clean water. However, this method is justified only for very small inflatable pools.
Without proper care, the water column itself becomes polluted and microorganisms and bacteria settle in it. Algae gives the liquid an unpleasant odor and a green color. Swimming in such a pool becomes dangerous
But even with them there is enough trouble - the water becomes polluted after the first bath. After draining the liquid, the surface must be washed and filled with clean water, which must still be warm. But you want to swim in hot weather more than once - children, for example, splash there all the time.
In addition to the pollution that a person arranges, various natural pollutants also constantly get into stagnant water, these are:
- leaves and grass;
- dust;
- bird droppings;
- plant pollen.
Large and light debris is removed from the surface of the pool with nets, particles settled to the bottom - with a water vacuum cleaner.
However, many substances dissolve or remain suspended in water. Under the action of sunlight and atmospheric oxygen, bacteria and microorganisms begin to actively multiply in such a liquid. It begins to emit an unpleasant odor, bloom and can cause poisoning and serious diseases.
Therefore, it is necessary to clean not only the surface and sedimentary formations, but also the water column itself.An effective way to keep the water in good condition all the time is to include an efficient filter in the water supply system.
Installing a filter for water treatment in the pool allows you to maintain the proper sanitary and hygienic condition of the bowl, relieves swimmers from a number of diseases

The device and principle of operation of the sand filter
The sand filter is one of the most popular, as it has a simple design, its cost is minimal, and anyone can make a sand filter at home with their own hands. The filtration medium is multi-fraction quartz sand, which allows solid particles up to 20 microns in size to pass through.
The principle of operation of such a filter is quite simple. Water enters the filtration unit through an overflow tank or a skimmer. After that, under pressure, the water passes through the particles of quartz sand and returns to the pool.
Various sand compositions are used for cleaning, most often sand is mixed with gravel, anthracite, carbon, which gives the greatest cleaning effect. You can always save some money and buy glass sand that will last 2-3 times longer than regular pool cleaners.
A huge advantage of such filters is the fact that all parts are made of durable materials. You will be able to use such a filter for at least 10-20 years, while the maintenance will consist only in changing the filtration material, that is, sand.
Operating requirements
During operation of the tank, the filter block gradually becomes clogged.Regular cleaning work is required to maintain efficiency and productivity at a high level.
Particular attention should be paid to the equipment of sand filters. During operation, the scale is separated, which reduces the throughput
This can lead to congestion.
Note: Flushing occurs every ten days. When using the tank intensively, the filter cleaning frequency can be easily changed.
To remove such deposits, special tools are used. Cleaning is carried out several times a year. A backwash is in progress.
In this case, a lime dissolving agent is added. When product enters the instrument, flushing is switched off. This ensures that the product will completely dissolve the lime.
This takes an average of several hours. This is followed by a thorough cleaning. The filter is used to purify water. So you don't have to save.
When choosing a device, it is necessary to take into account all its advantages and disadvantages, as well as the amount of purified water. This will allow you to choose the right option for your pool.

If you are planning to equip a pool on your territory, a person should first of all take care of what funds will be used for maintenance. In this situation, the use of pumping equipment is the best option.
It is important to understand that a pool pump is a professional type of artificial plumbing equipment that performs a number of important functions. In this article, we will explain in detail what they are for and what type of equipment they are used for.
Step by step guide to making
The general scheme of the sand filter implies the presence of:
- Capacities.
- pressure gauge.
- valve holes.
- Filtrate in the form of quartz sand.
- Coarse filter element to trap grains of sand so that they do not fall into the water.
- pump.
Water from the pool through the intake pipe is sent to the filtration unit. With the help of a pump, it passes under pressure through a layer of sand that traps various pollutants. Then, through the nozzles, it is again poured into the bowl in a purified form.
You can make a sand filter from different containers and materials:
- aluminum flask;
- expansion tank;
- plastic barrel;
- a plastic food container or bucket with a lid.
From a flask
For work you will need:
- aluminum flask with a capacity of 36 liters;
- quartz sand (granules from 0.8 to 1.2 mm);
- stainless or plastic mesh with a mesh size of up to 0.7 (so as not to let sand through);
- welding machine;
- pipes and fittings (diameter 40 mm);
- ball valves of suitable diameter.
Procedure:
- Make a hole in the lid of the flask with a diameter of 40 mm.
- Cut the pipe using a welding machine.
- Treat with sealant.
- Make the same hole in the bottom of the flask, insert the fitting for the water supply.
- The lid must be fastened so that it does not leak water under pressure.
- Connect the ball valves to the fittings - with their help, the direction of the water for sand washing is changed.
How to make a sand filter from an aluminum flask, the video will tell:
From the expansion tank
You will need:
- expansion tank of membrane type;
- anti-corrosion paint;
- fittings;
- sealing composition;
- coarse filter (store cartridge or homemade from a cut bottle);
- soldering iron;
- pieces of plastic pipe 50-80 cm long;
- mesh: mesh size is smaller than the sand fraction.
Procedure:
- Release the expansion tank housing from the membrane.
- Inside, treat the tank with paint, wait for it to dry.
- Holes are made in the walls of the case or on the cover, fittings cut into them.
- Connection points are sealed.
- A coarse filter is attached to the supply fitting (it will protect against leakage of large contaminants).
- If there is no ready-made cartridge, you can make a filter from the cut neck of a plastic bottle, make holes in it and fit it with nylon tights.
- Prepare a water intake hole - it will be a perforated container with a mesh installed.
- Connect to pumping station.
Sand filter from the expansion tank, video instruction:
From a plastic barrel
You will need the following materials:
- plastic barrel;
- coarse quartz sand;
- pump with valve;
- flexible hoses;
- 2 plastic pipes;
- soldering iron;
- sealant;
- grid with cells of fine fraction.
Procedure:
- You can use a soldering iron to make two holes in the tank corresponding to the diameter of the pipes.
- Isolate the pipes inserted into the holes with sealant.
- Make a water intake from a plastic bowl, make holes in it smaller than the sand fraction.
- Wrap the bowl with several layers of nylon or gauze.
- Attach the hose to the water intake using sealant.
- Install a mesh at the inlet from the inside - it will break the water jet.
- Attach the hoses with hot glue.
- Put the mesh on the injection to break up the water jet and spread the water evenly on the sand.
From a plastic container
For manufacturing you will need:
- food box made of durable plastic (can be replaced with a plastic bucket with a lid);
- polypropylene tubes diameter 30 mm;
- soldering iron for plastic;
- quartz sand;
- the neck of a plastic bottle with small holes;
- kapron stocking.
Procedure:
Two 30 mm holes are made in the lid of the plastic container (in the upper and side parts).
Cut two pipes 15 and 20 cm long.
Using a soldering iron, the pipes are fixed in the corresponding holes.
It is important to securely fasten the pipes in the lid of the container.
Install a coarse filter (from a plastic bottle) at the bottom of the container.
Fill 2/3 of the box with quartz sand.
Close the lid.
Connect to pump.
Choosing a pump for a future filter
The pump is selected for the future filtration plant. The power of the pump depends on the volume of the bowl. Water should pass through the system up to three times a day, intermittently. Accordingly, a larger pump is needed. With a margin, not only for the passage of water, but also for its suction or for expulsion from the system.
Sand filter installation steps:
- If the pool is collapsible, for example, frame, then pesochny filter for the pool to make better from the container with convenient holders, for comfortable moving. The container must have an airtight lid that closes tightly. Otherwise, the water pressure will squeeze it out. Put the container near the pool.
- Three holes are made in the barrel. One at the top, for fluid entry. The second at the bottom, for output. Third hole for gauge. The pipes in these places are firmly sealed.
- We lower the hose with the water inlet to the bottom of the container. And connect to the pump. The tube should be strictly in the middle.Sand is poured around the tube just above the middle. There must be a place for dirty water to enter.
- A plastic pipe is installed in the middle of the barrel, clean water will pass through it.
- At the top of the barrel we fix a hose, and a filter with a large mesh, for the flow of dirty water into the container.
- We install a sponge between the pump and the capacity of the future filter.
- On the one hand, we close the hose to the outlet of clean water with a fine mesh. And the second part of the hose is connected to the pump.
- In the “backwash” mode, the hoses are connected in a different way. The hose coming from the pump connects to the bottom outlet. And the hose leading to the “drain” to the top.
- The hose for the intake of dirty water must be on the surface. As a water intake, you can use a half of a plastic bottle covered with a fine mesh. Since basically the dirt accumulates on the mirror of the reservoir. A release in any part of the bowl. It is desirable that there is good circulation, to avoid stagnant water.
- The hose from the FU must be in the water between the skimmer and the drain hole so that there is no stagnant water.
Sand filter for purifying water in the pool work on two principles
- Pressure. The liquid flows through the quartz sand, through the bottom distributor and enters the riser pipe. Then it moves to the control valve and is discharged from the filter into the reservoir under pressure.
- Sucking. The liquid from the basin of the reservoir flows into the tank of the filter unit under its own power. At the bottom, the pump creates a vacuum, drawing water through the sand and driving it into a hose to exit the pool bowl.
Replacing the sand filter for pool water is necessary if:
- The filter is out of order.
- The pressure on the pressure gauge is below the set value.The rate of pressure on the pressure gauge when the pump is operating correctly is 0.8 kg / cc.
- If the system does not cope with its basic responsibilities.
Safety rules for replacing the filter unit:
- It is impossible to install FU in a place where moisture accumulates.
- The pump must be switched off each time the mode is changed. In the case of a homemade filter that you made with your own hands, the “filtering” and “flushing” modes.
- The pumping and filtering systems must be in a place with sufficient air supply. There is no need to cover them with anything.
- If you have a desire to carry out some action with the system, be sure to turn it off. The ground under your feet must be dry.
- The power cable must not be buried in the ground, check it for damage.
- Incorrect connection may damage the pump.
- Children must be supervised near the unit.
Compliance with these safety rules will help to avoid deplorable life-threatening situations!
Installation and maintenance
To install the system, you will need to perform the following steps:
- Selection of a site for installation, located next to the surface water intake, outlet. The filter must be placed horizontally on a flat area.
- Remove the clamping ring with gentle movements.
- A six-way valve is screwed onto the pipe. Fix it.
- Install the pump next to the filter. Fix with rod clamps.
- Fill the pool to the middle of the skimmer.
- Air is removed from the hose by slightly opening the coarse cleaning cover. Waiting for the water to come out.
- Turn on the backwash pump.
- Switching to the filtering mode, which should work daily for at least 3 hours.
The system should only work in water, if it is missing, the device will break.
After buying a sand filter, it is important to follow the maintenance rules:
- work is done only in water;
- 3 times a year it is required to clean the sand composition (if the pool is installed temporarily, cleaning is carried out once per season);
- some devices are equipped with automatic cleaning, then the need to eliminate plaque on their own is eliminated;
- when the valve is switched to a new mode, the pump is turned off;
- in order for the water to be pumped correctly, the system needs access to air;
- if the pressure is increased, it is forbidden to switch the valve;
- periodic connection of reverse water flow.
With proper operation, the device will work 3-6 years.
Pros and cons of a homemade filter
The advantages of a self-made filter pump include:
- saving money: a home-made pump is cheaper than a factory device;
- resolving the issue of frequent water changes;
- availability of repair and replacement of components;
- ease of maintenance;
- reducing the cost of chemicals and pool cleaners.
Disadvantages of a homemade device:
- the cost of physical strength and time;
- large dimensions compared to the finished analogue;
- the absence of indicators indicating the need to wash the filters - the degree of clogging will have to be controlled independently.
