Illusions of color and contrast
The human eye is imperfect, therefore, evaluating the objects seen, it often relies on the brightness of the background and the color environment of the object. This leads to interesting optical illusions.
Their most popular representatives are the so-called moving pictures. Their secret lies in contrast and color perception.
Optical illusion in contrasts. Errors in the perception of hue, color, contrast, affect the exact definition of clarity, degree of brightness, colors and shades. Black and white colors are absolutely opposite. These are one of the most contrasting colors. Looking at such a picture, the eye does not understand which color to give preference to, which of them is the main one.
Therefore, it seems that the pictures are moving, floating, dancing. When looking at black and white pictures - the illusion always seems that on a light background, the same color always looks brighter.
Unusual test
Look at the center of this picture. What color do you see?
Before you is an optical illusion - a black and white circle. However, there is a chance that by looking at the center of the illusion, you will find that there are other colors in this picture.
Try to look in the center, but pay attention to the rest of the circle with peripheral vision.
You may need some time to do this, take your time. Did you happen to notice a red, green, yellow or blue tint? Check what your answer means!
1. Red color
Are you one of the 35% of users who saw a reddish tint in the center of the circle? First, you should know that the brain wave frequency you use the most is between 150 and 180 Hz. This has a strong effect on your IQ. You know yourself well and your intelligence is above average. You are a logical genius!
Often, when you are faced with a difficult choice, many options come to mind. You have excellent intuition, however, it is not always worth trusting. You are relatively easy to solve problems. In addition, you have leadership qualities. You are able to have a great influence on people.
2. Yellow color.
This is not a very popular answer option - only 2 out of 10 users choose it. However, everyone who sees yellow in this illusion can become the greatest geniuses.
As for the frequency of brainwaves in which you work daily, it varies from 120 to 150 Hz. This defines you as a phenomenal person: you can be a "master of chess" if you want.As we all know, in this game you need to apply logic and play with the opponent's mind. No wonder the game of chess is considered the sport of geniuses.
One of the virtues that characterize you is your ability to appreciate the small details that surround you. When you visit an unknown place, you immediately begin to carefully examine everything. You are a creative person, therefore, you love artistic disciplines. New experiences give meaning to your life, so you take on any challenge without thinking about the consequences ... You are a brave person!
3. Blue / cyan color
30% of respondents saw blue in the center of the image. If you are one of them, then you are using brain frequency from 100 to 120 Hz, which makes you a very receptive person. You perfectly imagine all the ideas that come to your mind. The ability to present the whole picture in your head allows you to quickly make the right decisions. Your intelligence far exceeds that of many people.
You prefer to be honest with other people and not shirk when you need to express your opinion. Some of your colleagues at work find it useful to get advice from you, especially when it comes to a difficult task. Patience and knowing how to be are two of your main qualities. You are not only able to do your job effectively, but also know how to find a common language in a team. You are trustworthy, which means that more and more good people will surround you.
4. Green color
Only 15% of users see green in this optical illusion. The word that fully describes you is "talented". From a very early age, people around you saw how you stood out from others. You have an innate talent for brainwave frequency, ranging from 0 to 10 Hz.
You are open to new experiences, and have already learned a lot, so there is little that can surprise you. You really like to go out and see the world. You are also not averse to taking a trip with friends to an exotic place. Since you have gone through a lot in your life, friends often turn to you for advice. It is worth noting that people like to listen to you.
Illusion pictures: size
Illusions of size perception are often the cause of incorrect quantitative estimates of real geometric quantities. It has been proven that the error can be as low as 25% if you do not check the eye estimates.
For example, the illusion of two balls. It is really seen that the far ball is much larger than the near one. But they are the same. The illusion occurs due to a mistake in the brain, as it is sure that the farther the object, the smaller it is.
It is important that the assessment of the geometric real value by the eyes depends strongly on the nature of the image background, slope, color, and surrounding objects. So, for example, two identical objects, one of which is surrounded by small objects, the other by large ones, the first one will look more voluminous
The laws of size perception are widely used in the design of modern interiors.
Which of the circles located in the middle is larger?
Answer: the circles are the same.
The figure shows two segments. Which one is longer?

Answer: they are the same.
"Negative" girl
This color illusion works very simply: stare at the white dot on the girl's nose for 15 seconds, then move your gaze to the empty space. You should see the photo of the girl without using photo filters.
Our brain interprets colors and images, which in this case is called "negative afterimage". Professor Juno Kim explains it this way: “Information travels from the back of the eye to the brain through three opposing neural pathways – this is the code for all the hues we can see in the color spectrum.”
When you look at something, like yellow, for a long time, you stimulate cells in the brain that are positively sensitive to yellow. The activity of cells increases, and after a while it weakens and decreases. When you then shift your gaze to a plain surface - for example, to a white wall - then the previous activity of the cells will be restored, but this activity will be significantly reduced.
Last task
And finally, the last stage of our mindfulness test is a playful puzzle. Find 8 differences in this picture.

Answer
In one picture we see a spider with legs, in the other a black ball (or a potential spider carcass without legs). As you know, the spider has 8 legs, hence the 8 differences.
We hope that our test in pictures left a good impression on you and you coped with all the tasks. If they caused you difficulties, check out our article “How to become more attentive?”.
Finally, we suggest you watch one well-known public service announcement, which also contains a mindfulness task.
Illusion Pictures: Color Perception
It has long been proven that when an image appears on the retina from light and dark areas, light from bright light areas flows into dark ones. This is optical irradiation, in which the light surface of an object, as it were, captures part of the dark background, and therefore seems to be more enlarged against its true size.
Interestingly, knowing about the property of black color to reduce the size, the duelists of the XIX century dressed in black clothes, hoping that the enemy would miss when shooting.
Looking at the picture, you can observe the illusion of color perception.

In fact, the circles on different squares are the same shade of gray.
One of these illusions is described by Professor Adelson, who drew attention to the fact that the perception of color significantly depends on the background. On a different background, the same colors are perceived by a person as different, even if you look at them at the same time from a close distance.
On the Internet, you can often find bright pictures with a proposal to count the number of shades on them. The figures are painted and arranged in such a way that it is easy to get confused. The answer is simple: usually only two colors are used.
Looking at the following picture, answer the question: are the chess cells on which points A and B are located the same or different colors?

It's hard to believe, but yes! Don't believe? Photoshop will prove it to you.
How many colors do you enter in the following picture?

There are only 3 colors - white, green and pink. You may think that there are 2 shades of pink, but in fact it is not.
What do these waves look like to you?

Are the brown waves-stripes painted? But no! This is just an illusion.
Look at the following picture and say the color of each word.
Why is it so difficult? The fact is that one part of the brain is trying to read the word, while the other perceives the color.
optical illusion
Invisible chair. The optical effect, which gives the viewer a false impression of the location of the seat, is due to the original design of the chair, invented by the French studio Ibride.

Volumetric Rubik's Cube. The drawing looks so realistic that there is no doubt that this is a real item. Twisting a sheet of paper, it becomes obvious that this is just a deliberately distorted image.

This is not an animated gif. This is an ordinary picture, all elements of which are absolutely motionless. It is your perception that is playing with you. Hold your gaze for a few seconds at one point, and the picture will stop moving.

Look at the cross in the center. Peripheral vision turns beautiful faces into monsters.
flying cube. What looks like a real cube floating in the air is actually a drawing on a stick.

Hypnosis. Stare without blinking at the middle of the image for 20 seconds, and then look at someone's face or just a wall.

Four circles. Be careful! This optical illusion can cause a headache lasting up to two hours.

Ordering squares. The four white lines seem to move randomly. But it is worth imposing images of squares on them, as everything becomes quite natural.

The birth of animation. Animated images, superimposing a grid of black parallel lines on the finished drawing. Before our eyes, static objects begin to move.

Same or different? How can two cigarettes be the same size at the same time?

Kaleidoscope. Illusion of movement based on the work of Akiyoshi Kitaoka, professor of psychology at the University (Ritsumeikan) in Tokyo, world famous for his many illusions of movement.

Benefits for science
In translation, "illusion" means "delusion, error."Since ancient times, illusions have been considered as malfunctions in the functioning of the organs of vision. For centuries, scientists have been studying the causes of their occurrence. Some visual deceptions have already been given a scientific explanation, others are still unexplained.
And although many consider such pictures to be entertainment, it is thanks to such optical distortions that scientists can understand the work of the human brain.
For example, damage to the brain leads to a change in human behavior, and visual observation of such images by the patient helps doctors in determining the damaged area.
Logic in pictures: an easier option
The fourth task is of a completely different kind - to pass it, you will need not only attentiveness, but also logic. They say that such pictures were often seen in children's magazines in Soviet times, but they are still interesting to this day - including adults. So look at the picture and answer a series of questions:
- What season is it now?
- Concretize the question - what month is it now?
- Does the apartment have running water?
- Do only the boy and his dad live in the apartment, or is there someone else? If yes, then who?
- What is dad's job?

Answers
- We see that the boy is wearing felt boots, so obviously it's winter now. This version is confirmed by the answer to the next question (see the next answer). In addition, the canonical solution indicates that the column on the right is a furnace, and two circles, one below the other, with a chain, are an open air vent. Since it is open, it means that the stove is heated, and this is another argument in favor of winter. However, in our opinion, now not everyone recognizes a stove here, and even more so, not everyone recognizes an open vent. We provide this information for reference only, since the season can be set without this logical chain.
- There is a calendar hanging on the wall on the left, and he shows us his last sheet, therefore, it's december now.
- There is no plumbing in the house, otherwise the boy would not have used such a washbasin, which many of us saw only in the country or in the villages.
- In the near right corner we see dolls, so at least in this house there is also girl.
- A phonendoscope thrown over the shoulders and a medical hammer lying on the table indicate that dad is most likely doctor.
P.S. In the canonical version of the problem, it was also asked whether the boy now goes to school or not. To answer, it was necessary to see that only the first seven days were crossed out on the calendar, that is, the holidays had not yet arrived, therefore, the boy had to go to school. However, the quality of the picture, in our opinion, does not allow us to see the crossed out and non-crossed out days, so we did not ask this question, but write about it only for reference.
Not a red strawberry
Like the black/blue/white/gold dress whose hue controversy has recently engulfed the Internet, this strawberry is an optical illusion. That is, under certain lighting conditions, we perceive colors differently. Our brain accurately recreates the red color of strawberries, despite the fact that all the pixels in this photo are blue-green. This is how the illusion of color is created - using the two-color method. This image is an example of how our brain corrects the colors of the world around us when a certain color is overlaid with another.
And yet, if you highlight some of the shades of red in this photo, and look at them using a white background, you can see shades of gray and blue, and not red at all.
Visual illusions - what is it?
Optical illusions are an optical illusion of the human brain. After all, looking at the picture, the eye sees one image, while the brain protests, claims that it is completely different. That is, this is a discrepancy between the actual and expected visual perception of an object, when the human eye sees something that cannot be in reality.
The entire visual system is responsible for perception, including the eyes, nerve cells and endings, which help the visual signal to enter the brain, directly to the part that is responsible for the visual perception of objects and phenomena. A person, knowing the features of vision, analyzes the visible picture, understands when the image is real, when it is being deceived.
You should not take pictures - illusions seriously, trying to unravel them, it's just that the organs of vision work, that's how the human brain processes the visible reflected light from the image.
Logic in pictures: a more difficult option
Another picture of the same kind, and also from Soviet times. But now we have prepared a more difficult puzzle: there are more questions here, and some answers require more logical steps. Will you try? So, questions:
- How many guys are in this tour group?
- Did they come today or not?
- How did they get to this place?
- How far is it from here to the nearest village?
- Which side of the world does the wind blow from, north or south?
- What time of day is it?
- Where did Shura go?
- What is the name of the boy who was on duty yesterday?
- Give today's date (day and month).

Answers
- The group consists of four people. There are 4 names on the duty list, 4 plates and 4 spoons are visible on the picnic mat.
- The guys have arrived not today, as the spider managed to weave a web between the tent and the tree.
- The oars standing near the tree say that the guys sailed here on the boat.
- The nearest village is probably near, as a live chicken came to the guys. It is unlikely that she would have gone far from her chicken coop and it is unlikely that young tourists would have carried a live chicken with them. Thus, there is a chicken coop nearby, which means that there is a high probability that the village is also nearby.
- The flame from the fire noticeably deviated to the right, that is, the wind blows in this direction. On the trees, the left branches are noticeably longer, therefore, there is south. So the wind blows from South.
- If the left is south, then the shadows fall to the west, therefore the sun is in the east, so now morning.
- Shura is gone catch butterflies - behind the bushes you can see the net of a boy hunting for butterflies. Why doesn't Shura take pictures? Because according to the author's intention, what sticks out of the backpack with the letter B is a tripod for the camera. Therefore, the boy who takes pictures is called Vasya.
- So, Shura catches butterflies, and Vasya takes pictures. Kolya is sitting next to the backpack (besides, as we made sure in the second question, the guys did not arrive today, so Kolya cannot be on duty anyway). Thus, the name of the boy standing by the fire is Petya. We look at the list by the tree: if Petya is on duty today, it means that he did it yesterday Kolya.
- Since Petya is on duty today, today is the 8th. As for the month, you haven't forgotten our hint, have you? Soviet Mystery. Then the "watermelon" months were August and September. We have butterflies and flowers, so it's probably not autumn yet. So August. Answer - 8 August.
What color shoes
So, at first everyone was excited by the dress, then the shoes appeared. In 2017, a coach in his group posted an innocuous photo. Under the post was a question: what colors do people see in this photo: pale pink with white or blue with gray. The situation again became the subject of fierce endless debate, and everyone was also in confusion. In the end, it turned out that the sneaker was actually a pale pink with a white sole, and if people saw other colors in the photo, then it was just a play of color. Perhaps this means that your eyes perceive colors differently.
Mindfulness Test
To be honest, we ourselves were not immediately able to solve these puzzles. Therefore, the test seemed interesting to us. Look carefully at the pictures and try to figure out what's wrong. It is worth being careful, and also straining your convolutions well to find the correct answer.
Below we have posted some pictures with riddles. After the section with pictures, there will be correct answers: if you can’t figure it out, you can peep the answers. However, do not rush to give up early, be honest and be patient. Good luck!
Who is the liar?
The guy returned to the campsite after snowboarding in the mountains. He decided to check his things and suddenly noticed that a significant part of the food supply was missing. The guy asked his friends: have they seen the bag with his provisions? One girl replied that she rode all day and did not notice anything unusual. And the second girl said that she sat around the fire all day, drinking the same juice. The young man smiled: he guessed which of the girls lied to him, but how?
Which one is pregnant?
There are three girls in line in this picture. Try to determine which one is pregnant? Try to look closely at the picture.
How many matches are in the picture?
What is more convenient to use - matches or a lighter? Everyone has their own answer to this question. In this picture, someone has scattered matches: count their exact number. The result, as for the previous puzzles, will be available at the end of the article.
How did the cop know the man had lied to him?
The man called the police on the first of January and reported the theft. He said that someone stole his important things while he was celebrating the New Year with his neighbors. He also said that the party was amazing, and the New Year's lights are the brightest in his life. The man suspects his neighbor, who threw a party, of everything. When the policeman went to interview her, he immediately realized that the man had lied to him. How did he guess?
Connect the dots in the picture
How long have we been learning geometry at school. The rule "two parallel lines cannot intersect" is forever imprinted in our memory. Let's brush up on school knowledge a bit. In this picture, you need to connect the circles using just three lines so that you don't let go of your finger. Can you?
Answers
Below you will find the answers to the test. Don’t be discouraged if you didn’t manage to solve these seemingly simple riddles the first time.
- How did the young man guess who lied to him? It was a girl with a glass of juice in her hands. The ice in her glass would have melted long ago if she sat and drank juice all day by the fire.
-
Correct answer: girl with untied shoelaces. Since she is pregnant, it is difficult for her to reach her sneakers to tie her laces.
-
How many matches are in the picture? If you look closely, then in the picture you will find only 8 matches.
-
How did the cop know the man had lied to him? This is noticeable in the garland on the Christmas tree - two bulbs are clearly missing, so it could not shine as brightly as he told the policeman.
-
To connect the dots correctly, you need to draw a triangle, as in the picture.
Drawing with 28 errors
And again we complicate the task - from one mistake we pass to 28 inaccuracies and illogicalities. That's how many of them are in this picture with a rural landscape. Try to find them all.

Answers
This riddle has many possible answers. What is illogical for one, the other considers quite probable or the result of poor drawing (not very high artistic abilities of the author). However, it is possible that the fact that everyone sees something of their own in the picture (including “their own mistakes”) is another reason to check their attentiveness and logic. We present our version of 28 errors in the figure.
- The wind blows in different directions: the smoke from the chimney goes in one direction, and the trees bend in the other.
- The time of the year is not defined - there are trees with foliage, and those that have already shed it.
- Also about the season: the field is both harvested and sown at the same time.
- The saddle is visible on the horse, but there is no collar.
- The horse plows in the wrong direction (goes to where everything is already plowed).
- The horse plows alone (there is no plowman to hold the plow).
- Two trees grow in the middle of the field, while everything around them is plowed.
- The tallest pine has a branch with different foliage (right).
- The sun shines from a strange angle: the shadow from the man falls in one direction, from the gate - in the other.
- There is no chimney (and smoke) in the shadow of the house.
- A wavy shadow falls from the gate, not a straight one.
- The gate has five horizontal boards, but only four cast a shadow.
- The gate is actually dug into the ground, it has no hinges or anything else, due to which it would open.
- The bush in the left front part seems to be growing on a fence, and the grass in the left part of the picture falls just on top of the fence.
- The house has a step (sill), but no door.
- The curtains on the house hang outside.
- The person looks too big for such a house - judging by his height, the windows will be located somewhere in the area of \u200b\u200bhis stomach.
- The dog looks bigger than the sheep.
- The sheep in the foreground is missing a leg.
- One sheep has a black tail, very reminiscent of a dog's.
- The dog and some other objects do not have a shadow, or it falls to a third side.
- Sheep disproportionately decrease from the foreground to the far.
- The yard is fenced only on the side that looks at us, on the back side, where the field is, the fence is not visible.
- In the background you can see a blue lake, which is clearly above the horizon (or it is a waterfall that is too strange in shape).
- The cart with hay in the background is much taller than a human being.
- The cart to the left of the house is missing one handle and one wheel. If it is broken, then it is not very clear why it was left in the middle of the barn, which is probably used at the moment (since hay is being harvested on the field).
- The pipe is exactly in the middle of the roof and on the edge. This option is acceptable in theory, but in practice it is not very common.
- The color of the pipe matches the color of the roof; it is probably made, like the roof, of straw or wood, that is, of something that burns well, which is hardly possible.
