Wrong height

The lower the lamp, the smaller the area it illuminates. If only one lamp is used in the room above the table, for example, then the rest of the room will be dark, and the light above the table will be too bright, blinding. Floor lamps and sconces should also not be placed too low; when reading close to a bright light source, vision deteriorates.
Designers advise hanging chandeliers as close to the ceiling as possible.This will make the room appear taller and larger. Vertical objects also visually stretch the room. A high floor lamp by the chair will create diffused illumination, in which it is convenient to do your favorite things, and visually increase the height of the room.
Lots of old decor
The benefits of regular decluttering have recently become obvious to everyone. But it seems to many that this only applies to clothes, food, or deposits of old things on the balcony. Few people think that sometimes you need to inspect and remove excess decor. Here are a few categories of items that are worth checking out periodically.
- Souvenirs. Sometimes it's great to leave some stylish reminder of a good vacation in plain sight: a wooden figurine or a ceramic fruit bowl. But when there are too many of these things, they are all in a different format and style, the room becomes like a souvenir shop.
- Textile. There are textiles that can last for several generations, such as carpets. And there is one that needs to be periodically replaced with a new one: tablecloths, curtains, blankets, covers for decorative pillows.
- Posters and pictures. If you periodically buy new ones and simply add them to the free space, sooner or later you will encounter a feeling of visual noise. Try taking everything off and leaving the wall blank for a week and then compose a new composition. Perhaps this will require only a part of the items.

Design flaws
A common mistake is the loss of style direction and the harmonious combination of filling the room. More often, the owners are not sure about the choice of color, style details, therefore they make a mistake, creating interiors that are monophonic and without bright accents. It turns out boring and faceless apartments.
In another case, people are confident in their own choice and consider it the right one. It turns out the apartment "it is not clear what and it is not clear why."
Still others adhere to strict interiors with clear lines, minimalism and conciseness in decoration, turning the apartment into an uncomfortable office.
Interior design mistakes are also made by those who do not spare money: they buy expensive finishing materials, the latest furniture and household appliances, fashionable textiles. As a result, the apartment is crammed with everything newfangled, but the design has no general direction.
Among such rich people there are those who do not want to hear any correct advice, give them palace chambers in a 2-room apartment. Only this idea is more often doomed to failure.
Even in a small room, separate zones are provided, which are used to being separated using color. Now this is considered wrong, and designers offer to separate it with multi-level furniture.
If you do not think over the places for storing things in advance, then home clutter is guaranteed.
It has become fashionable to leave the windows empty and not to hang curtains. This is also considered a mistake if the style of the room is not Scandinavian or loft. Layered curtains, which include tulle with heavy night curtains, are also considered a mistake in a small apartment.
Total beige
For a very long time, beige was considered a great backdrop for any room. It seems safe, it is more difficult to make a mistake with it than with saturated shades or white, black colors. The catch is that the interior is flat and featureless, very formulaic.

How to fix
If repairs are not planned, add contrasting accents of rich deep tones to the beige background: poster frames, lamps, furniture. If you still have the opportunity to choose a color palette for the room, try making a contrasting wall or choose shades of white instead of beige.

Open Space and its lighting
This is the most common type of office space.
This is explained by a number of undoubted advantages:

improved communication between employees
blurring physical boundaries
quickly organized a well-coordinated team
Mistake #1
However, at the same time, for some reason, everyone forgets about the personal comfort zone.
Each person is an individual and from time to time
it takes time to separate from everyone else.

It turns out that this psychological problem can be solved
with the help of lighting. This is done by zoning.
Moreover, zoning is not by area, but by functional
purpose of space. What does this mean and how to implement it?
First, tie the lamp directly with
workplace.
Mistake #2
No need to focus only on large powerful lamps to illuminate the entire space.
The best option - hanging models above the tables
employees.
This visually separates the work area from the general
environment.

Secondly, the fixtures here must be at a neutral temperature of 4000K. But the rest of the area - corridors, eating area, recreation, etc. should have T=2700-3000K.

Open spaces are also distinguished by increased noise. Stan and
there are no barriers.
It turns out that this problem is easily solved.This is done with the help of acoustic lamps. What it is and what they eat with, read in a separate article.
What should be considered when designing lighting in an apartment?
Today, the trend is to minimize lamps (they are increasingly being integrated into architecture) and obtain a lighting effect (now, due to the large amount of information around, a person is only interested in light as an effect).
The lighting of the apartment should consist of five layers. The first is functional (for work surfaces). The second is accent: it is boring and inexpressive to fill the space with light monotonously, so try to highlight paintings, areas with a decorative wall, interior items. The third one is atmospheric: as a rule, it implies another lighting scenario - more subdued or interactive light (for example, created using a ledge lighting that changes color or brightness). The fourth layer - working for architecture: in interiors there are often elements that are worth emphasizing
The fifth layer is physiological: it is important to create conditions in which the eyes will rest. The fact is that the human eye reacts reflexively to changes in brightness and movement.
There is the concept of "adaptation" - when the pupil changes in diameter with a change in brightness. So, the eyes rest in the conditions of "calm" lighting with optimal levels of brightness and illumination, without fast light dynamics.
Each room has its own laws of lighting
In the bathroom, the light should be diffused and soft, but accent lighting of the mirror area is important so that when we put on makeup or brush our teeth, shadows do not fall on the face. If you direct the light to the right, the left side of the face will remain in shadow, on the left - the right, from above - the bottom
Therefore, it is better to make diffused or reflected light in the mirror area. For example, lay an LED strip in a profile with a diffuser or around the perimeter behind a mirror.
Often in the bedrooms they hang a chandelier over the bed, but this is wrong: you are lying, and the light is right in your eyes. The same applies to point light integrated into the ceiling: the points must be located outside the bed area. Or, buy fixtures with a recessed light source that can only be seen by standing directly below them. A system of built-in ceiling lights will give general light. Floor lamps, wall lamps, ledge lighting localize the light and make it more subdued. Now many let the light from the wall, avoiding ceiling lights. This technique comes from hotel lighting - such a light is in many chain hotels. Mass construction implies small areas of apartments and ceiling heights, and ceiling light only eats it up: to install lamps, they make a suspended or stretch ceiling, which occupies 10–20 centimeters, which makes the space seem oppressive. Therefore, the walls and ceiling are first plastered and painted, and only then they make a system of reflected light.
In the kitchen, identify the main work surfaces. The first zone is cutting and cooking. The second is the dining table. Then it all depends on the layout: perhaps you have a sofa with a table. Install a lamp above each zone, and create a general light from the walls or using the backlight.
Stylistic mistakes
An inappropriate interior is the main problem for those who want to recreate a design from a glossy magazine.It is impossible to make a full-fledged palace in a typical one-room "Khrushchev" - it will look ridiculous, carved furniture, voluminous stucco molding simply will not leave room for life. Also, loft design will not look good in an apartment of 25-30 sq. m. with small windows to the north, low ceiling. Empty brick walls, an abundance of light, high ceilings with open beams are its main features, artsy metal decor in such cramped spaces is traumatic. Country style in a house the size of a hangar is also not an option - it is problematic to create comfort here. The solution to such issues is to choose a simpler style, more suitable, but carefully use individual elements that you like. It is undesirable to mix different styles excessively - this is a big mistake. The lack of unity of style, the disunity of its elements leads to chaos. If you really want to combine different styles in one apartment, this is done in different rooms, although designers still recommend keeping the whole apartment in the same style.

Provided too few light sources
Not even a small kitchen it’s much better to miss in the big direction and install a couple of unnecessary light sources that you simply won’t turn on than to regret until the next repair that some necessary zone remained in the shade.
How to avoid
Before repairing and ordering a headset, calculate the lighting scenarios you need, in addition to general lighting:
- Illuminated dining area. For this, for example, a chandelier on a long cord or several sconces on the wall are suitable.
- Table top lighting. At the same time, if the hob is installed somewhere in the middle of the work surface, both halves must be illuminated.Let this backlight turn on with a separate switch, in case you ran into the kitchen at night to quickly make yourself a sandwich.
- Plate lighting. As a rule, this function is performed by the hood. When choosing a device, make sure that there is a backlight function without turning on the exhaust mechanism itself.
- Illumination of open shelves, especially under the ceiling. In the evening, without an additional light source, you will not see anything there.
- If possible, you need to provide lighting in the cabinets.
List of Common Living Room Interior Mistakes
A wide variety of interior and decor elements that the market offers consumers does not always benefit the design of the living room. Combining with errors the trendy things of the interior with its newfangled elements, the design composition of the living room does not have individuality and proper functionality.

10 unacceptable living room interior mistakes:
- the TV panel is in the wrong place;
- lack of multi-tiered lighting;
- lack of a common design solution in the selection of furniture elements;
- in the interior of a small low room there is a lot of dark color, including furniture;
- a large number of mirrors;
- many decorating elements;
- a lot of furniture that clutters up the space;
- lack of combination of different styles;
- an overabundance of bright colors in the overall concept of the interior;
- Few outlets and switches.
Almost all of these errors are easy to fix, with the exception of the last one. Let's take a closer look at individual errors.

bedroom renovation mistakes
The interior of the bedroom should set you up for relaxation - this is the main purpose of the room. The following mistakes should not be made when renovating a bedroom:
Small bed. The main function of the bedroom is sleep, so the bed is the main piece of furniture.It should be as comfortable as possible, chosen in accordance with the growth of its owner.
Not enough storage space. If there is no place for a separate dressing room, then a spacious closet will solve the issue of storing clothes.
Too bright lighting. The bedroom should have soft, diffused light, allowing you to relax and tune in to rest. And for reading, a sconce on the wall will be enough.
Too catchy wall decoration. Bright contrasting colors in finishes, colorful photo wallpapers, complex designs of multi-level ceilings - all this is tiring and irritating.
Lots of natural light. In the bedroom, the windows must have blackout curtains or blinds.
Colorful temperature
The second important quality indicator is color temperature.

Mistake #6
For offices, it is mistakenly believed that it should only be cold shades.
For example, 5500-6000K. This is not true at all. Really,
they seem to invigorate cold shades, but this is only at the beginning of work.

Cold mode is a kind of afterburner for the brain.
But in this mode it is recommended to work no more than 4 hours a day.
If you sit under such a light all day, at the end of the working
time you will feel like a squeezed lemon. Much more comfortable in this
in terms of a neutral temperature of 4000-4500K.
But it also needs to be used wisely. Science has proven that
warm shades of light in 2700-3500K help a person relax and take off
voltage.

But the neutral temperature, on the contrary, sets up well to work.
How to use this knowledge in the office space?
Elementary, and we have already talked about this.
Make it so that the main focus throughout the room
lamps with a warm temperature were set, but already directly above
the working area of the employees was dominated by neutral shades.
Drawing up a lighting scheme
For the correct drawing up of the lighting scheme, you should draw a plan of the apartment. It indicates all the locations of lamps, electrical wiring lines, exit points of switches, sockets and other devices. Note the type of each switch, the number of keys on it. The arrows indicate for which devices it is used.

If the apartment lighting design plan is simple, then use the general recommendations.

Living room
This room needs a bright general light (200-250 W). Based on the area, determine the number of local sources. For example, if the living room also includes a workplace, then it is additionally illuminated with a table lamp.
Bedroom
Here it is appropriate to use a lamp with a matte shade or a short chandelier (100-150 W). Sconces (60-100 W) are placed at the head of the bed on both sides.

On the contrary, you can put a floor lamp or a pair of less powerful lamps (40-60 W). This combination contributes to the creation of a calm environment.

Kitchen
If the room is small, then general lighting is not necessary. It is recommended to move the lamp closer to the dining table. LEDs can additionally highlight the kitchen set.

Bathroom
General lighting required. The local source can be hung above the mirror. Since this is a room with high humidity, the lamps should be with shades.
Children's
In this room, lighting is best created using multi-point fixtures. They do not emit bright directional light, which avoids negative effects on vision.

Corridor and hallway
Since these are often small and narrow rooms, the light here needs to be bright and versatile.Install lights around the perimeter of the walls. Additionally, a mirror can be highlighted with soft natural light.

For modern apartment lighting, it is important to take into account the color rendering of sources. This will allow you to comfortably equip all rooms and will not allow distortion of the color of interior items.
It is optimal to use lamps with an index of Ra-100. Such light allows you to display colors most accurately. The lower the value, the worse the color rendering.
If you still have not decided how exactly to make the lighting in the apartment, look at the photos on the net and you will probably have ideas. Otherwise, you can hire a designer, and he will solve this problem.

In case of problems with the lighting scheme, you can seek advice from a lighting engineer, he will tell you how to correctly calculate the lighting and give practical advice. Remember that with the help of light you can make a masterpiece out of an inconspicuous home. Don't be afraid to experiment!

Mistake 5. Not thought out fastening curtains
Before starting construction work, decide on the curtains. Not with color (although you can decide on it), but with the type of cornice. The curtain rod can be ceiling, in a niche or, as usual, wall-mounted.
How to choose?
It all depends solely on your taste. The main thing is to decide at the very beginning. If you want to make niches, consider them at the start of construction work. If you want a ceiling cornice - do not forget about it at the stage of ceiling installation. Wall hung after repair. But you must know in advance what it will be.
If you're designing in a 3D planner, there's simply no chance of forgetting to plan your cornice.However, like many other details, which are not trifles at all and can radically change the repair process. The program will allow you to visually verify that these errors were not made.
Types of errors
In addition, it is worth noting that conceptual and technical inconsistencies are distinguished in architectural lighting.
Conceptual - these are errors that violate the integrity of the image, thought out by artists and designers. Without an initial idea, a backlit building is nothing more than a facade hung with equipment without any intention and, accordingly, without emphasizing significant details of the building. Such errors include: highlighting insignificant elements and maintaining a shadow on bright details, which violates the whole concept of lighting.
Technical errors are much more common. And the reasons can be both financial difficulties, and low qualification of specialists, and inattentive attitude to small elements that initially seem insignificant, but without them there is no complete and complete picture. The most common mistakes:
Failure to balance the brightness of the light on the facades - that is, the light from one group of lighting fixtures is much brighter than the other. In order to create even illumination of the entire building with accents on really significant details, it is necessary to calculate the power of optical equipment, the angles of the "sight" on the elements, the placement and the distance between the devices.
The ill-conceived placement of devices complicates their maintenance without the use of special sophisticated equipment.
The use of open wiring, which spoils the aesthetic side of architectural lighting.
Such seemingly obvious mistakes significantly spoil the whole picture and reduce the cost of the overall impression of lighting.

The choice of lamps in the office
Mistake #4
When choosing fixtures for the office, forget the outdated models with T-8, T5 fluorescent tubes, etc. like a nightmare.
The most popular of them are, of course, square LL 4 * 18W
for ceilings such as Armstrong with a luminous flux of 3250lm.

And the main problem here is not the increased
energy consumption (85-90W per hour). It is, of course, 2-3 times greater than that of
LED.
And not in a shorter service life + high costs for
one light point.
Payback for LEDs comes after 1 year of operation. The whole trouble is that such light creates such pulsations, invisible to the eye, after which you will constantly be disturbed by headaches.
Therefore, in the office, choose only modern models for
LEDs. At the same time, bypass everything that is cheaper than 1300-1500 rubles. A plus
look at the warranty.
The actual term is 3-5 years. For those who talk about big
years, don't believe me.
Their power supplies still fail much earlier.

As for saving light, when using
motion sensors in corridors and separate rooms at certain time
intervals (in the evening, when there are few people in the office), you can reduce
energy consumption by another 50-60%.
In addition, by integrating small-sized battery power supplies, all LED office lamps can be turned into emergency lighting, which, according to fire safety regulations, must be present in the building without fail.

Mistake #5
In this case, it is highly recommended not to use spotlights.
This is already the last century, not only for office space, but also for home.
Such miniature pills will never be created
normal level of illumination, not to mention the hassle associated with their
maintenance and repair.
In order for the light to be comfortable and safe,
it is not enough just to buy the most expensive copies.
How was it previously thought? Create the right amount of light
on a specific surface and everything will be OK.

Now the approaches have changed somewhat. Certainly the rules
in terms of the quantity and quality of light, no one canceled, but they were added and
other requirements.

This can be called the human orientation of light.
When the lamp controls biorhythms and helps to increase efficiency.
Moreover, the employees do not even notice it, everything happens
naturally.
Provide storage space
The interior, in which everything is lying around, looks untidy, cluttered. Therefore, experts are recommended to have in an apartment, a house as many different storage space - fortunately, most models of modern furniture suggest the presence of built-in drawers, shelves, sections.
In Soviet times, storage was carried out in a room, literally a couple of "squares" in size, called a "pantry". There, on shelves, tables, bedside tables, everything was stored - carpentry tools and spare parts for a bicycle, a vacuum cleaner and skis, nails and clothes “for summer cottages”. There was a closet in the hall, where books, documents, dishes lay. In the kitchen, at the very least, a sideboard, a "Khrushchev refrigerator" coped with storage, in the bedroom there was a large-sized "grandmother's" closet of small capacity. In modern times, there is such a thing as a dressing room - usually it is a separate room, a corner in the bedroom. Clothes, shoes, accessories are stored there, on bars, hangers, shelves, in baskets.

If space permits, there is also a part of rarely used household appliances, sports equipment. Outerwear, casual shoes are placed in the corner built-in wardrobe in the hallway, sometimes tools are also stored there. The bed in the bedroom is equipped with drawers for storing linen, a dressing table, a desk where all the necessary little things are put. The bathroom provides various shelves, including built-in under the bath. The kitchen set contains dishes, kitchen appliances, table linen. It is not advisable to clutter up the living room at all - one rack or two or three shelves under the TV is enough. Books are most often stored there, but now they are far from being in every home. In the nursery they put a chest of drawers, a rack with plastic containers for toys.
TOP 5 mistakes when renovating a bathroom and toilet
Repair in the apartment begins with a bathroom and toilet. Mistakes made at this stage are fraught with serious financial costs. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid them. The most common misses include:
Refusal of waterproofing. The bathroom is a room that is potentially dangerous in emergency situations. Waterproofing must be carried out over the entire area of the bathroom floor. If a partition was removed or square meters were added at the expense of the corridor, then all sections are subject to waterproofing.
Plasterboard ceiling. Such mistakes when repairing an apartment, in particular, a bathroom, are often made - they choose a plasterboard for the ceiling in order to create a multi-tiered ceiling. However, it is better to use it in dry rooms. In severe flooding, drywall will swell.
Dismantling the threshold. This cannot be done for several reasons. Firstly, SNiP prescribes its presence, and in the future there may be problems with the sale of housing.Secondly, the threshold protects the rest of the premises from the spread of water in case of serious leaks in the bathroom.
Wrong choice of flooring. The bathroom is a “wet” room, so the material for the floor is chosen with the mark “water resistant”, and not “moisture resistant”. Laminate (except plastic), parquet board and other similar materials do not apply to those. The best choice is tiles, linoleum and self-leveling floors.
In order not to make another mistake when repairing a bathroom, namely, laying a floor covering that is too slippery, which is fraught with injuries, you should pay attention to materials with a specialized corrugated surface. Lack of ventilation
There is a ventilation hatch in any bathroom room initially, so it is absolutely impossible to sew it up with a finishing material - this will lead to a violation of the microclimate not only in the bathroom, but throughout the apartment
Lack of ventilation. There is a ventilation hatch in any bathroom room initially, therefore it is absolutely impossible to sew it up with a finishing material - this will lead to a violation of the microclimate not only in the bathroom, but throughout the apartment.
It is enough to purchase a special decorative PVC overlay with perforation, which will not interfere with air circulation.
Lack of storage systems
A studio apartment is a small living space where you will have to pay special attention to the question of where and how to place a large number of necessary things, items, and equipment. Therefore, the purchase and installation of retro furniture, antique items and small organizers will not be justified.
The best thing you can do to increase the comfort and functionality of a small space is to order a floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobe with many sections, drawers, rods and shelves that are convenient for storing clothes, appliances, linens and more. Another good example is to use the space under the stairs, as shown below.

Interior Design: Specht Architects
We calculate lighting
To begin with, think about what functional load this or that zone of the room will carry. Once you have decided, proceed to the calculation of lighting. To do this, you need to know the type of room and the power of light sources.

The height of the ceilings, the direction of the light flux, the degree of reflection of light from the walls affect the final result. To obtain accurate results, consider these parameters and use a special formula.

If it is not possible or time to calculate everything in detail, then use the standard indicators for home conditions:
- 20-30W incandescent lamps
- 10-15W halogen lamps
- 4-6W LED bulbs

Please note that the data are per m2. Nearby are two values for rooms with light and dark wall coverings.

In addition, you can decide which lighting for the apartment is better on your own and without miscalculations. To do this, analyze your feelings: if you are comfortable, then there is enough light.

Lack of decor or decor should be
The presence of a certain amount of decor makes the apartment cozy, giving it a unique look.
But the decor is important to arrange correctly. Wallpaper with vertical stripes makes the room taller, with horizontal stripes - wider
Too large drawing on them is allowed only in spacious rooms. It is not recommended to duplicate the same pattern on many different items. Excessively "strict" interior, completely without decor, uncomfortable, similar to an office space.
Hanging pictures, photographs too high is not an option, as you have to lift your head, which is extremely inconvenient. This does not apply to cases of attaching a plot group of pictures that occupy most of the height of the wall. One large bright picture is placed on an almost empty wall - the accent of the room is placed on it.

Lighting rules
There are several rules for installation, distribution of light fluxes in a room (apartment). Their accounting and use will help make the lighting in the apartment convenient and practical.

Local lamps are the main assistants in the organization of illumination. They will help to correctly distribute the room into zones, emphasize the functionality of its sections.

Multi-level lighting of an apartment (room) is an absolute and indispensable element of its arrangement. It must be remembered that the lower the element of light is placed, the more intimate the atmosphere of the room.

Correct use of color shades of incandescent lamps. Basic shades of white:
- warm light (less than three thousand three hundred kelvin);
- natural white (from 3300 to five thousand kelvin);
- cool (more than five thousand kelvin).

Warm light is desirable to use in living rooms, bedrooms, children's rooms. The second is in the hallways, offices. The third is most rationally used as lighting for work surfaces in the kitchen. It must be remembered that the higher the temperature in Kelvin, the cooler the luminous flux.

Ensuring the conservation of electrical energy.Existing standards establish requirements for providing illumination of 1 m2 of a room with a light element with a power of ten watts.

Modern light bulb manufacturers evaluate their efficiency in the form of luminous efficiency, which is defined as the ratio of lumens to watts. The most economical in this spectrum are energy-saving lamps.

Correct accentuation of light fluxes in the room. Ceiling lights create the illusion of height, chandeliers with lampshades create the impression of a low room.

In rooms with a small area, it is desirable to use bright fixtures. Spotlights, decorative lamps are more appropriate to use in large areas.

Each homeowner determines personally what kind of lighting for the apartment will be best for his family. Its choice may come from the characteristics of the premises, the hobbies of household members, the age of family members, economic and other reasons.

But in any case, the rules for organizing lighting in the apartment, the technical requirements always remain unchanged. Compliance with these conditions will help each person to create lighting of the apartment that is convenient for him and his family members.

Mistake #7: Use One Light Source

Quite often you can find interiors “crowned” with a single source of light - a chandelier in the center of the room. Such a solution deprives the space of many possibilities, for example, dividing it into functional zones and emphasizing beautiful details.
How to fix: Make several levels of lighting. Spot ceiling lights, chandeliers, floor lamps, table lamps - a variety of light sources make the interior more multifaceted and interesting. But do not overdo it, each lamp has clear functions.General light - for communication with relatives and friends, directional - for reading in an armchair or work, nightlights - for a cozy atmosphere while getting ready for bed.
Sockets, switches - we design at the planning stage
The time has passed when switches were mounted almost at the height of an average adult height, sockets - a meter above the floor, and each element was present in onetwo copies per room. It turned out a bunch of wires from household appliances, a child or a short adult had to stand on a bench to turn on the light in the toilet, bedroom.
Modern times require many separate switches for each interior lighting device. A lot of sockets are also required:
- in the combined bathroom, bathroom - connection of a washing machine, hair dryer, hand dryer;
- in the kitchen - a mixer, a toaster, an electric kettle, a refrigerator, a dishwasher are turned on;
- in the bedroom - charging a phone, tablet, laptop, connecting a lamp;
- a computer, office equipment, a table lamp will be connected in the office;
- in the living room - TV, sound system, all kinds of gadgets;
- in the nursery - a computer, a table, wall lamp, a decorative night light, in the summer - a mosquito fumigator;
- in the hallway - charging gadgets before going outside, mirror lighting;
- in the dressing room - connecting an iron, sometimes a hair dryer, curling irons.

Start thinking about the placement of certain devices should be still at the stage design - even with the most conservative estimate, each person has to charge one or two phones, tablets, laptops, wash clothes in a typewriter, turn on the light not only above the bed. Both switches and sockets are mounted at a convenient height - no more than a meter above the floor level.
Lighting standards - how to calculate and check
The amount of light for a particular workplace is expressed in lux. According to Russian standards GOST R 55710-2013 “Lighting of workplaces inside buildings” (download) in common areas, this is 300 Lux. On the employee's desktop, the normal level of illumination should be 500 Lux (750 Lux in Europe).
More details with all categories of premises can be
refer to the tables below.
office - open space

workplace with computer

drawing office

corridor - hall

conference room and meeting room

reception - reception

pantry

archive
stairs

How to reach and verify this data? The most literate
approach - calculation and design in a special program Dialux.
She will tell you the number of lamps, and the most
good locations for them.
An approximate calculation can be made by comparing the total area where the workplaces are located with the lumens of a particular lamp.
That is, if you have an office of 10m2, multiply its area
to a norm of 500 Lx and you get the required illumination of 5000 Lm.

After that, in the characteristics of the lamp, check it
lighting settings. When one is missing, add what you need
amount to eventually cover the minimum rate.
The problem is that this is a very rough calculation, which is not
takes into account:
ceiling height
wall reflectivity
A more complete formula for checking illumination looks like
So:

E - illumination in lux
n - coefficient (for standard ceilings 3m is 0.5)
S - room area m2
F - total illumination of all lamps in the office
Let's say you plan to hang 4 square
3000 Lumen Armstrong lamps each.The area of the room under Open Space is 20m2.
Substituting the data into the formula, we get: E \u003d 0.5 * (12,000/20) \u003d 300 Lux
For the corridor it will do, but above the tables of the employees at
each will have to hang one more lamp.
Mistake #2: Not thinking about the temperature of the light

As in nature, in the world of lighting devices there are a lot of shades of light, the combination of which must be taken into account when planning the interior. Modern light bulbs emit warm (2700-3500 K), neutral (4000-5000 K) or cold color (5500 K and above). If all of them suddenly meet in one space, there is a real chaos.
The fix: Keep the room's artificial lighting only in shades of one spectrum—warm or cool. The first is better suited for living rooms and bedrooms, as it creates an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility. And the second one will perfectly complement the office or work area, where you need to concentrate and streamline your thoughts.
