Internal organization
A heating element is an electrical device that heats a liquid with a built-in spiral made of a special material. The conductive element is located in a sealed tube, which is isolated from the machine body. The heater is placed in a water jacket; a vane electric pump is used to circulate the liquid.The junction line of the parts is sealed with a rubber gasket, which prevents water from entering the contact elements. When an electric current passes through the spiral, heat is released; measuring sensors are used to correct the operation of the heater. The sensor controls the set temperature, when the required value is reached, the heater turns off. As soon as the water cools down below the programmed threshold, the power supply resumes.
On some modifications of dishwashers, there are dry-type units, which are distinguished by the installation of a heating tube in a separate housing. The gap between the walls is filled with a thermally stable compound, which additionally insulates the electrical components from water.
Signs of failure of the heater and elements associated with the device:
- display on the liquid crystal display of the error code containing the numbers 09;
- supply of overheated or cold water due to a breakdown of the thermal regulator;
- the appearance of voltage on the surface of the case due to the breakdown of the heating element;
- extraneous noise that occurs when the built-in pump is worn or broken.
Inside the body of the Bosch dishwasher, all spare parts and control elements are installed. The main details of this system are:
- The flow valve for water intake, which is equipped with an inlet system, is controlled by a microcontroller.
- Filtration mechanism that purifies water from small parts of food and other debris.
- Drainage system consisting of a drainage pipe connected to a drainage system and a sump pump. It works on the same principles as the Bosch washing machine.
- Float type blocker, dishwasher protection system from various leaks.It is a cylindrical plastic container, which, when floating, closes the contacts. This happens when too much water is taken.
How to replace the heater
Prepare replacement parts. You may need a new heating block, as well as a temperature sensor if it malfunctions. Of the tools you will need:
- slotted and cross screwdrivers;
- pliers;
- awl;
- multimeter tester.
Before buying new elements, make sure that the old heater is defective. On Bosch, Electrolux, Indesit machines, the heating element cannot be replaced separately, you will have to remove the entire unit.
How to understand that you have a non-separable block? Look at the mounts. If there are screws or latches around the perimeter, then you can try to disassemble and remove the heater separately.

If the dishwasher has already served 8-10 years, it is easier to think about buying new appliances. After all, the heating unit costs from 3,000 to 10,000 rubles.
Proceed to dismantle and replace the part. Sequence of work:
- Disconnect the machine from the communications, pull the plug out of the socket.
- Open the tank door, remove all baskets and trays.
- Pull up to remove the bottom rocker.
- Unscrew the drain filter. There may be a metal mesh behind it, remove it.
- There may be water in the landing tank. Remove it with a sponge.
- Remove the five screws securing the circulation pump.
- Place an old blanket or towel under the car, turn the car on its back or upside down.
- Remove the decorative bottom panel.
- Disconnect the bottom - it is fastened with screws or latches. Some models come without a lid. A float sensor can be attached to the bottom if Aquastop is provided. Then disconnect its wire and unscrew the fastening screw.
- A drain pump is connected to the side of the heater.Grab it with your hand and twist it counterclockwise.
- Disconnect the wiring and remove the pump.
- Disconnect the rubber band that holds the heater.
- Disconnect hoses, wires and fittings.
- Pull out the faulty heater.

Heater diagnostics is carried out with a multimeter. Attach the probes to the contacts and measure the resistance.
Do not use defective wire for rework or insulation. If the insulation is broken in the wiring, it is better to immediately replace it with a new element.
After installing new parts, test run the machine.
As you can see, you can make a replacement with your own hands. Take care of the dishwasher, then breakdowns will bypass the dishwasher. Watch related videos:
How to change the heating element in the dishwasher: detailed instructions for beginners and not only
If you have checked and made sure that the dishwasher does not heat water due to a malfunction of the heating element, buy an original or compatible part (better, of course, the original one) and get to work. Separately, we note that repairs are not always beneficial for the owner. So, if your equipment is already obsolete, and all the parts in it are worn out, there is no particular point in buying a unit, the cost of which is 7-10 thousand rubles.
So let's get started.
Open the dishwasher's loading door and remove the dish trays from it, lay some kind of absorbent cloth on the floor in order to protect the floor surface from moisture.
Unplug the dishwasher from the mains, wait 10-15 minutes (so that the capacitor is discharged and you cannot suffer from electric shock).
Unscrew all hoses.
Locate the plastic impeller inside the dishwasher and pull it up to remove it.
Unscrew the filter.
Unscrew the nuts holding the pipe and the heating block.
After that, turn the structure upside down.
Depending on the features of a particular model, unscrew the back wall or pull out the bottom panel (if we are talking about built-in appliances)
To remove the bottom panel, disconnect the heating block from the drain hose, carefully pull the panel towards you and it will come off. At the same time, you will not be able to completely pull out the panel, since for this you must first unscrew the fasteners inside the machine body.
Flow heater connected to drain pump
Grasp the pump with your hands and wrap it clockwise half a turn. After that, pull the pump to the side - it will be in your hands. After that, unscrew the temperature sensor.
From below, the flow heater holds rubber fasteners. To remove it, you need to reach under the body.
Disconnect the fasteners of the pipes and sensors, remove the burned-out heating element, and put a new one in its place.
After that, put all the elements back in reverse order.
As you can see, replacing a heating element in a dishwasher is a simple task, and if the block is non-separable, everything becomes even easier. Of course, various problems may arise during work, but you will definitely cope with them.
So, in some models, you will have to carefully pick up a plastic clamp with a large needle (it is important not to damage it). Something will have to pry with pliers. Act boldly, the main thing is to be careful

Dismantling and checking the heater
You need to start the dismantling process by removing the wires. It is recommended to photograph or sketch their location so as not to be confused when installing a new part.
To remove the old heating element from the washing machine, you need to unscrew the nut located in the middle of its surface located outside the machine. Using a screwdriver without strong pressure, you need to try to pull the heater out of the tank. Sometimes you have to do this with two screwdrivers. In rare cases, when the heating element is heavily scaled and does not fit into the tank opening, you will need a hammer that will lightly hit the heater body or a screwdriver. Striking the tank of the washing machine is unacceptable, this can cause deformation, which will prevent the correct installation of the new heating element.
From the removed heating element, it is necessary to carefully remove the thermostat, then it will need to be installed on a new part.If there is scale on its surface, it must be removed.

It is advisable to check the serviceability of the removed heater with a multimeter - this will help determine the severity of the breakdown. The most important indicator is resistance. To measure it, you need to connect the tips to the contacts of the heating element. If the device did not show anything (on ohms), then the heating element is really faulty. The upper limit of the resistance of the heating element should be 30 ohms for heating elements with a power of 1700-2000 W and 60 ohms for heating elements with a power of 800 W.
A break is possible inside the tube of the heating element, in which case you need to check if it hits the ground. To do this, it is necessary to measure the resistance at the outputs and the body of the heating element, while the device must be switched to megaohms. If the arrow of the multimeter deviates, then the breakdown is really present.

Any deviation from the normal operation of the heating element may affect the operation of the machine, as it is part of its electrical network. Thus, even if the first test did not show a malfunction, the second must be carried out, especially since this does not require special training, you just need to switch the device.

Why does the heater break
Heating the water in the washer is very important, because in hot water things are washed efficiently and efficiently. But, unfortunately, the service life of the heater is 3-5 years.
There are several reasons why an element fails:
- Natural wear. The element constantly heats up and cools down, which shortens its service life.
- Scale. Raw water contains salt impurities that do not dissolve and settle on the surface of the heater. The thicker the scale layer, the more difficult it is for the heater to transfer heat. As a result, it overheats and burns out.

Voltage fluctuations in the network can lead to a short circuit. It, in turn, leads to an open circuit of the heater, a breakdown on the body.
Also, the reason that the element does not work may be the burning of the triac on the electronic board. The triac is responsible for the operation of the heater, therefore, if it malfunctions, the heating element does not receive a signal for action.
Then you will need to replace or repair the heating element in the Bosch washing machine.
Symptoms
How can you identify the problem? Signs of failure of the heating element in washing machines Bosch Classixx 5, Bosch Maxx 4, Bosch Maxx 5 and other models may be the lack of water heating.
To check, place your palm on the hatch glass after 20 minutes from the start of washing. If it's warm, it heats up; if it's cold, it doesn't.
Pay attention to linen after washing. In cold water, things are washed worse, they smell musty
It happens that the machine system itself signals a malfunction, shows the error code F19 on the display. Then the user knows exactly what to check.
Step by step instructions for prevention
The normal operation of the dishwasher depends on the condition of all its components. In order to create the right working conditions for them, it is necessary to periodically service the machine and apply preventive measures. Let's take a closer look at them.
Filter cleaning
Despite the requirement to manually remove food residues from dishes, a large amount of small organic matter still penetrates into the machine. These particles accumulate in filters, reducing their ability to pass water. Therefore, periodic inspection and cleaning of filters is required.
Usually two filters are installed in the PMM - inlet and drainage. Their locations are indicated in the instructions, as the user must periodically clean them.
Removed filters are cleaned with soapy water or soda, limescale can be removed with citric acid. After cleaning, the filters are installed in place.
High-quality household chemicals
The main factor that has a negative effect on the details of dishwashers is water.
If it is too hard, contains a large amount of suspensions and small particles, limescale will appear on the surface of the heater and other components.
If cheap household chemicals are used, one should not expect high-quality and long-term work. To maintain efficiency and increase the service life of the machine, it is necessary to use specialized tools that remove lime deposits and help clean the critical components of the machine.
Correct mode of operation
To keep the machine in a normal state, it is necessary to provide it with an optimal mode of operation. This refers not only to the correct choice of program, but also the frequency of use, the magnitude of the load.
Loading rates are indicated in the instructions, they must be strictly observed. The choice of the mode (cycle, program) is made in accordance with the number of dishes, the degree of contamination, the shape of the objects.
Before starting operation, you should carefully study the user manual and learn which programs should be used for certain situations. Proper use of the machine will keep it in good condition for many years.

Replacing the heating element in the dishwasher
There is no more important detail in a dishwasher than a heating element. It promotes water heating and thermoregulation. Therefore, if a breakdown occurs with it, you should urgently replace the heating element with a new one.
We will tell you about why this happens and how to make a replacement with your own hands right now
Therefore, if a breakdown occurs with it, the heating element should be urgently replaced with a new one. We will tell you about why this happens and how to make a replacement with your own hands right now.
Causes of malfunction and diagnostics
If you believe the reviews of the owners of dishwashers of popular brands (Indesit, Bosch, LG, etc.), then the cause of the failure of the heating element is most often a short circuit, as well as burnout of the spiral thread.
Also, the heating element can burn out due to leakage, large clogging of the filter, power surges, a scale layer of more than 3 mm and improper operation.
That is why we so often advise you to carefully study the rules for using the equipment and regularly clean the filters yourself.
note
Thanks to the timely care of the dishwasher, many problems can be avoided, including burnout of the heating element.
It is not difficult to diagnose a breakdown, in practice the dishwasher simply stops heating the water, this will also be signaled by the readings of the temperature sensor.
It is possible to stop the program in the middle of the process or vice versa, “endless washing”. All this testifies in favor of a malfunction of the heating element.
How to choose a new heating element
First of all, open the documentation for your dishwasher (or the label on the case) and find out the exact model name. In case of loss of documents, information can be found on the Internet.
But it would be fair to talk about the differences between one heating element and another.
For example, electric instantaneous heaters quickly heat water to the required temperature, but at the same time they spend too much electricity.
These are used in Bosch dishwashers. The second heaters (dry) are considered by masters to be of higher quality and durable, since they do not come into contact with water.
Also, when choosing a heating element, it is important that it meets the requirements for power and voltage, the connection of contacts and the diameter of your model.
Where is the heating element and how to change it yourself
So, you have correctly identified the malfunction of the heating element, bought a new one and are now ready to replace it yourself. To do this, you will need a small set of tools that can be found in every home: flat and Phillips screwdrivers, an ohmmeter, a screwdriver, an awl, pliers.
First you need to make sure that the new heating element really works. An ohmmeter will help with this, the resistance should not be higher than 25-30 ohms. If everything is in order, then:
- Unplug the dishwasher;
- Take out all the “insides”: dish trays, filter, sprinkler, hoses, etc.;
- The next step is to get rid of the spinning rocker. This is the lower part of the bunker, where heated water is pumped with a pump.
- Now you can see the branch pipe connected to the faulty heating element. Using a screwdriver, unscrew all the fixing screws from it (usually there are five of them) and turn the case over so that the bottom is on top;
- Get rid of the back panel. In some models, a retractable wall is installed instead, remove it completely;
- Next, you will see a heating element that connects to the pump. It is disconnected with a slight half-turn to the right, after which the part must be pulled towards you in order to finally remove it. The sensor should also be disconnected;
- Remove the fasteners from the heating element.An awl will help to gently pry them;
- Now you can dismantle the faulty heating element by disconnecting the remaining pipes and plugs;
- Install the new heating element in reverse order.
Replacing the heating element of a dishwasher cannot be called such a complicated procedure and all actions can be performed independently and at home. But if you are not confident in your abilities, we advise you to trust the repair or replacement of dishwasher parts to specialists.
How to replace the heating element in the dishwasher yourself

No matter what brand makes dishwashers, they all break down over time. One of the most common faults is a broken heating element.
At such moments, the machine begins to wash dishes poorly, work is carried out in cold water. Replacing a heating element in a dishwasher is a task that is possible for an ordinary user.
And to make it doable, follow our instructions.
Varieties of the heating element in the dishwasher
Bosch, Ariston, Electrolux, Candy dishwasher models have two types of heating elements:
- Flowing, or dry.
- Tubular with a spiral, or wet.
The first variety is connected to the pump and pipe. Water is driven through its tube by an engine, so it instantly heats up. Such parts are less susceptible to scale, so they have a long service life.
The second, submersible, element is combined with a circulation pump. Since it is constantly in the water, it is more prone to scale settling. Over time, the amount of salts on the surface interferes with normal heat transfer, causing the element to overheat and burn out.
How to understand that the heater is broken and it's time to replace? Typical symptoms of a problem are listed below.
Symptoms of a malfunction.How to check the heating element?
You can identify the problem by indirect signs. Also, modern PMMs report a problem by highlighting an error code on the display. Almost all Hotpoint Ariston, Indesit, Siemens models are equipped with a self-diagnostic system. If there is a problem, a test mode is launched, as a result of which all nodes are tested.
An additional sign is poor dishwashing. If earlier the dishwasher normally washed utensils, but here a greasy coating remains on the surfaces, the problem is probably in the heating element.
Where is the element? It is located at the bottom of the housing, near the motor and pump. To begin with, you can inspect the condition of the temperature sensor. It directly depends on whether the heater will turn on or not.
- Disconnect the device from the network and communications.
- Lay a towel on the floor, lay the car on its side.
- Remove the plinth panel.
- Inspect the thermistor, its wiring. If traces of burn marks are visible, replace the part.
- To diagnose the heating element, attach multimeter probes to the contacts to measure the resistance.
- A serviceable part will show values in the region of 22 ohms.
If it turns out that the element is out of order, a complete replacement is carried out.
How to replace the heater with your own hands?
Parts such as heating elements cannot be repaired at home. And the price you pay for repairs is no less than the cost of a new part.
Prepare replacement tools:
- Slotted and Phillips screwdrivers.
- Pliers.
- Awl.
Of the components, you will need a fully heated block. TEN in such models is not installed separately. Namely, in cars: Bosch, Electrolux, Indesit, Ariston.
Visually inspect the block. If it does not have disassembly mounts, you will have to completely replace the device.If bolts or latches are visible, the heater can be removed.
- Unplug the dishwasher.
- Turn off communications.
- Open the hatch door.
- Remove the trays from the hopper.
- Remove the lower atomizer by pulling it towards you.
- Remove the drain filter, at the same time remove debris from it.
- Water remains in the hole behind the filter. Remove it with a sponge.
- There are five screws on the bottom. They attach the heating block.
- Lay the PMM case on its side or turn it upside down.
- Remove the bottom panel.
- Scroll the pump and remove it from its place. Disconnect the sensor from it.
Open the fasteners, turn off the wiring chips and remove the heater.
The new element is installed in the reverse order.
How to replace a submersible heating element is shown in the video using the Bosch PMM as an example:
Monitor the operation of the equipment so as not to lead to serious malfunctions. Clean the filters from blockages in time, do not overload the chamber with dishes. The manufacturer has not in vain compiled an instruction manual, try to adhere to it.
How to make a replacement
If it was possible to accurately identify that the breakdown is a malfunction of the heating flow element, it is necessary to purchase an original spare part. Masters claim that spare part BS 655541 is suitable for all Bosch, Siemens, Ariston, Veko units. For Electrolux ESF9450LOW dishwashers, a heating element from the same manufacturer is suitable.

Heating element
So, after purchasing a suitable part, you should proceed to install it.
- To replace the Bosch dishwasher heater, you need to open the hopper door and remove the dish tray so that these elements do not interfere with your work.
- Then you need to unscrew all the hoses.
- There is a sprinkler at the bottom of the Bosch, Siemens, Ariston, Veko dishwasher. It also needs to be dismantled.
- Then remove the plastic filter.
- Having reached the flow heating element BS 655541, unscrew the screws that hold this part.
- Having disconnected the TEN from the rubber fasteners, pipes and sensors, we remove the old part from the machine.
After the heating part is installed in its intended place, all the work on installing the fasteners should be done in reverse order.

Dishwasher disassembly
Note that the device of the instantaneous water heater of the dishwasher includes a circulation pump. This means that the replacement of Ten is carried out simultaneously with the pump. Given this fact at the time of purchase of the dishwasher heater BS 655541, it is necessary to evaluate the performance of the entire structure as a whole.
Experts recommend that, in order not to make a mistake in choosing the right model of a dishwasher flow heater, go to the store with a photo, or better with the failed part itself. In this case, the seller will be able to recommend the most suitable model for the Electrolux ESF9450LOW dishwasher.

Dishwasher Repair
Step-by-step instructions for replacing the heating block
All dishwashers have a significant drawback - new models are more vulnerable and prone to breakage than old ones. However, if a heater breakage is detected, repair work should immediately begin. You can buy original spare parts in any suitable store in your city, or order via the Internet. As soon as you have the necessary components, proceed.
We act according to the following scheme:
Unplug the dishwasher. Shut off the water supply through the injection hose.
Pull out dishes and dish trays from inside the machine to have complete freedom of action.
Unscrew all hoses.
Remember: dirty water may remain in the drain tank
Be careful not to flood the floor.
At the very bottom of the dishwasher is a sprayer for supplying water mixed with lye. Gently pull it up and off.
The next step is to remove the filter
It looks like a glass. Unscrew it carefully.
The filtration system also includes a metal mesh. It is made of steel that is not subject to corrosion. Delete it too.
Now the most important step. You have to unscrew the five screws that secure the heating block and pipes. Now everything is ready to replace the thermoblock.
The next step is to directly replace the defective part. We act according to the previously indicated instructions: first of all, turn the dishwasher upside down.
Unscrew the back wall and pull out the panel. This way you will get to the heating element and you can start replacing it.
Next you have to disconnect the pump. Squeeze it with your hands and turn it half a turn clockwise. Next, pull to the side.
Ready! The pump has been removed. Now disconnect the sensor. If your dishwasher is one of the three previously mentioned models where the heating element and sensor are replaced along with the thermoblock, then remove the entire thermoblock in which the flow heating element for your dishwasher is installed.
From below the spare part is fixed by a rubber latch. You will have to blindly search for it, but it is very easy to disconnect it.
Now it remains to disconnect the sockets and sensor plugs.
Ready! The disassembly operation can be considered completed. You can repair the heating element in the dishwasher, or replace it with a new one.Now it's up to the small - to assemble the dishwasher in reverse order. It's easy and won't take much time. But the water heating system in the dishwasher will now be established.

Checking the health of the temperature sensor and heating element
The temperature sensor is checked both using a specialized diagnostic tool and visually
Pay attention to the contacts and wires. They must not be burnt or melted.
If a visual inspection did not help, you will have to unwind the dishwasher.
For and a temperature sensor, a special device is used - a multimeter. As a rule, it is in every house. If you have not stocked up on such necessary measuring equipment, be sure to purchase it. With this tester, you can ring electrical circuits, check the integrity of radio components, measure the voltage at the outlet, and much more. The device has compact dimensions and combines several devices: ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter.
To check the health of the heating element, put the device in ohmmeter mode. Pre-calculate the resistance of your heater. To do this, divide the value of 48400 by the nameplate power of your heating element (see instructions). For example, if the power of the heating element is 2.8 kW, then the resistance of the heater will be 17.29 ohms.
At the next stage, disconnect the device from the network, get to the heating element and disconnect the wires, touch the tester probes to the heating element leads. If the value obtained is almost identical to the calculated value (in our example, 17.29 ohms), the element is working. If it shows 0, 1 or infinite, the heating element is out of order and needs to be replaced.
After that, check the element for current leakage.To do this, you need to set the tester to the buzzer mode and attach one probe to the power contact, and the other to the case (or to the ground terminal). If the device squeaks, there is a breakdown on the case, if not, everything is in order.
To check the insulation resistance, set the device to the megohmmeter mode and set the tester to the limit of 500, hook the crocodile onto the machine body, and install the probe on one of the contacts of the element. The norm is a resistance of 2 MΩ and above.
In modern models, a thermistor is most often used as a temperature sensor. This element changes its resistance depending on temperature. To check its condition, put the tester in ohmmeter mode and, having connected to its contacts, measure the resistance. Prepare a pot of boiling water in advance and place a temperature sensor there - the resistance should change dramatically upwards, if not, the component is faulty.
What could be the problem?
The lack of heating can be caused by several factors:
- TEN burnt out. This is the most common malfunction that is checked first.
- Incorrect installation or connection of the machine. Because of this, it can constantly drain water, which simply does not have time to heat up. Other violations of the water treatment regime are also possible.
- The heating element is covered with a thick layer of lime deposits. They act as a heat insulator, which is why the heating element cannot heat water, although it works at full capacity.
- Problems with the thermostat. He does not give a command to heat the water.
- The electronic control unit is out of order or has failed the firmware.
Most often, the problem is registered by the electronic control unit, and a certain combination of characters is displayed on the display (usually, this is a letter and one or two numbers).
The self-diagnosis system allows you to quickly detect a malfunction, which simplifies the work of repairmen.
Bosch
In addition to the standard cause (malfunction of the heating element), Bosch dishwashers may have a problem with the water filter. If it is clogged and does not pass water well, the circulation mode stops.
The control unit may therefore give a command to replenish the water level, which will make heating impossible. It is quite simple to determine such a malfunction - during operation, you need to open the door and look at the pallet. If the filters are clean, there should be no water in them.
Electrolux
The main factors for the lack of heating in PMM Electrolux are:
- failure of the heating element;
- breakage of wires;
- failure of the control unit.
Most often, the reason lies in the malfunction of the heating element. On the PMM Electrolux, it is combined with a circulation pump, so the entire assembly will have to be changed.
Replacing one heater is quite possible, but they are rarely sold separately, only ready-made assemblies.
Korting
Dishwashers, like all German equipment, are very sensitive to water quality. Due to the appearance of deposits, heating elements quickly fail.
The heater operates normally, but cannot provide the set water temperature, as it is covered with an insulating layer of limescale. Because of this, the control unit gives a command to increase heating, the element overheats, and fails.
Another risk factor is the temperature sensor. With him the same problem - scale, which reduces the heating of the thermistor.
Indesit
The design of PMM Indesit differs little from analogues of products from other companies. She also has problems with heating water as a result of the failure of the heating element, sensors, and the control module.
Often the cause is clogging of the filter, due to which the pressure switch does not give a command to execute the work program.
Conclusion
This material provided basic instructions and tips on the problem of repairing the heating block of dishwashers. Ten is an element quite difficult to repair, so often the help of specialists is required to repair it.
It should be noted that all new models of household appliances are much more prone to breakage and rapid wear. This is the main drawback of the new generation machines. Therefore, in the event of a malfunction, it will be easier and more correct to replace the spare part. This will not only significantly extend the life of the dishwasher, but is also a cost-effective action.
However, repairing old parts or buying new ones is a personal matter for the user. It all depends on the age of the equipment and the service life. We advise you to keep the warranty card until the end of the specified period.
We also recommend that you read the article about the e25 error in the dishwasher.
