How to extend the life of your dishwasher
Proper care and use of PMM affects its life. Stick to simple rules:
- Thoroughly clean utensils from food debris.
- Load dishes correctly. The lower section is more intensively treated with water, so place pots and plates there. Place glasses and cups on the top shelf.
- Don't overload. The devices must not touch, otherwise they may break.Both rocker arms (upper and lower) must rotate freely.
- Learn in the instructions which dishes can be washed in the machine and which can not. There are also special markings on the plates. For example, products made of tin, plastic, wood are recommended to be washed by hand.
- Install the program correctly. The "Intensive" mode is best chosen for heavily soiled dishes. For everyday washing, you can set the "Economy" mode.
- After finishing work, check the powder compartment. There should not be pieces left, otherwise the compartment may become clogged over time.
Following the recommendations, your dishwasher will not only work out the period declared by the manufacturer, but also exceed it twice. Watch related videos:
Recommendations for use
Do not use conventional detergents to avoid overflowing with foam
Do not overload with dishes, as this may affect the degree of cleaning of items.
Place the soiled side of the dishes facing the spray arms, which are usually located in the center of the dishwasher.
To avoid corrosion, do not mix steel and silver products.
If you have hard water use more detergent
Try to arrange the dishes so that there is no close attachment of one dish to another.
So that there are no stains on the dishes and it dries faster, use rinse aid
Some types of plastic may melt during drying, be careful not to damage it.
Recommendations for types of cookware materials:
Porcelain: After washing with too hot water, chinaware can become dull. Therefore, it is best for her to select a delicate wash program and not to dry.
Glass: It is recommended to use a glossing agent - a brightening agent.
Crystal: water temperature should not exceed 45 degrees C.
Wood: It is not recommended to wash wooden utensils, because after washing the wood may crack and deform.
Plastic: Be sure to check that the utensils are labeled dishwasher safe.
If you intend to use the dishwasher with a full load, place the dishes in the machine immediately after eating,
perhaps with the inclusion of a pre-wash in cold water, so that the dirt softens and the most greasy stains are washed off.
Then turn on the normal dishwashing cycle. If the dishes are not very dirty, or the machine is not loaded completely, use the "economical"
washing program following the instructions.
Place dishes upside down in baskets.
If possible, try not to let objects touch each other.
Before placing dishes in the machine, remove large food residues to avoid clogging the drain.
After placing the dishes in the baskets, make sure that the injector legs can rotate freely without touching the dishes.
Items with particularly strong or burnt contamination should be pre-soaked in a detergent solution.
Regular Maintenance Rules
Not only filters can suffer from dirt, but also chamber walls, sprinklers, compartments for loading baskets. The simplest thing a user can do is to manually wipe all parts from time to time with a damp cloth using a light cleaning solution.

You can facilitate the process of care and use a sprayer. Mix water with dishwashing detergent, pour into a bottle, apply to all elements inside the washing chamber, then wipe
To protect the internal parts from the appearance of mold, grease or other dirt, preventive dry cleaning of the dishwasher will help.
Work order:
- free all boxes from dishes;
- fill the powder cuvette with a dishwasher cleaner;
- choose one of the long programs, for example, "standard".
The temperature of the water during washing should be above +60 °C, so that the cleaning agents act as efficiently as possible, and all impurities are dissolved and washed off into the sewer. It is recommended to practice dry cleaning at least once every 4-6 months.
The door is usually wiped by hand, carefully processing not only the front glass, but also the seals.

The AquaStop system installed on the inlet hose prevents leaks and protects the machine from accidents. The hose, together with the valve and filters, is removed and also carefully cleaned of debris.
In order for the drain system to work properly, you need to flush the drain hose as well. It is unscrewed, rinsed with anti-grease detergents and fixed in place.
When returning all parts to their places, it is necessary to tighten the union nuts tightly and check the tightness of the connections before switching on. If the work is not done carefully, a small flood may occur during the wash.
Popular Recipes
There are several options that will help, without leaving the house, to acquire the means used to wash dishes in the dishwasher. Consider popular methods that are not very complex.
The first
Perhaps it doesn’t get easier, and this recipe will suit even the lazy. To create tablets, you need a little:
- Washing powder, preference is given to what is intended for children's underwear - it contains fewer aggressive components that can harm health.
- Water, use regular tap water. You can add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to it. She will play the role of bleach.
- Soda, we take the usual food, it will help soften the water.
Mix the powder and soda in a ratio of 7 to 3, dilute everything with water. When the mushy mixture acquires the desired consistency, lay it out in molds and let it dry. After we put it in a glass container, tightly cover with a lid. That's it, the pills are ready.
Second
This method involves the use of glycerin, the scheme of action is similar to the previous recipe. You will need the following ingredients:
- 5 milliliters of glycerin.
- 150 grams of washing powder.
- 40 grams of soda.
We mix soda and powder, add glycerin, lay everything out in forms, dry it, then use it for its intended purpose.

Third
The recipe is suitable for those who are not looking for easy ways and want to experiment a little. Compressed capsules contain the following components:
- 100 grams of borax.
- 75 grams of soda.
- Magnesia or Epsom salt - 250 grams.
- 20 grams of citric acid.
Everything except citric acid should be poured into a container and mixed. When the mixture becomes homogeneous, take citric acid and dilute it with water. Then add it to other ingredients. When the reaction subsides, lay out in forms, dry in a warm and dry place.
Fourth
It does not differ in high complexity, the recipe involves the use of the following components:
- children's washing powder;
- soda;
- mustard powder;
- glycerin or dishwashing gel.
We mix all the components in equal proportions, add glycerin to the mixture, you can have a little water. When the solution acquires the desired consistency, lay it out in containers and dry the tablets in a suitable place.
Fifth
If you are confused by the presence of powder in the composition of home-made products, then I offer an alternative recipe:
- You will need concentrated lemon juice or citric acid.
- Borax and soda.

All components are mixed in equal proportions - 1 to 1. If the water is highly hard, then increase the amount of soda by 2 times. It is necessary to act according to the following scheme:
- it is worth mixing borax and soda;
- add lemon juice to the mixture, if you use acid, then you will have to add water.
Then the finished product is laid out in forms. In a few days it can be used for its intended purpose, for washing dishes.
Rules for loading dishes
All household items loaded into pull-out baskets must be installed so that the water freely washed them from all sides, and then flowed down just as freely.
To prevent the user from experimenting with placement, the manufacturer recommends using a hint scheme.
Scheme of loading dishes in one basket. To be able to use the placement options, some holders move. There are additional inserts
Full-sized and narrow units are equipped with 2-3 boxes for loading. This is useful for standard programs, when the lower sector is cleaned more effectively.
And also for individual modes, for example, “delicate”, when only glass or crystal glasses are washed, installed in the upper basket.
Under the boxes and above them are rocker arms that spray water.
During operation, they rotate, so it is important to monitor the placement of tall objects in order to prevent breakage of the sprinklers.
Heavy and bulky items are placed in the lower basket - pots, baking dishes, pans, large plates, cups, lids, baby bottles are placed in the upper compartment. For cutlery - a separate basket
Sometimes you need to wash things that do not fit in the lower compartment. Then the upper basket is removed, the items are conveniently installed and the machine is started with one basket. Deep containers are placed with a recess down so that water flows freely along the walls.
It is believed that the lower compartment of the machine is processed more aggressively and at elevated temperatures. Therefore, plastic and the most fragile serving elements are usually placed at the top.
Proper arrangement of dishes is an important step in the daily use of the machine.
How to load dishes in the dishwasher
The effectiveness of washing depends largely on how correctly you load all your plates, cups, cutlery, pans and pots into the dishwasher. If you neglect a number of recommendations regarding the placement of dishes in the dishwasher, the result may not please you. At the same time, you will sin not on yourself, but on your “assistant”, and completely in vain ...
All modern dishwashers, with the exception of super-compact models, are equipped with two baskets for dishes, as well as a cutlery tray.The upper basket is designed for plates, cups, glasses, glasses and other relatively small items. If your dishwasher has an adjustable height of the upper basket, select its optimal position: the water should evenly wet all the loaded dishes.
The top basket of the dishwasher.
Specialization of the lower basket of the dishwasher - pots, pans, baking sheets, large plates and dishes and other large items. In many models, the lower baskets are equipped with folding holders. When raised, these holders help distribute dishes evenly. But if there are too many dishes or the loaded utensils are very large, the holders can simply be folded - you will get a flat platform for large items.
Dishwasher bottom basket.
The cutlery tray is, in fact, a small removable basket in which spoons, forks, table knives are placed. It is not uncommon for premium dishwashers to have an aluminum tray designed specifically for silver cutlery.

Tips for proper placement of dishes in the dishwasher
Tip 1.
Before loading dishes into the machine, be sure to remove large pieces of food, bones, napkins, etc. from it. This will prevent the filter from clogging during the cycle.
Tip 2.
To reduce energy consumption and at the same time improve the quality of the final result, pre-rinse especially dirty and greasy dishes with hot tap water. A jet of hot water will remove the toughest dirt, thereby helping the machine to cope with the task better and faster.This advice is especially relevant for owners of dishwashers that do not have a pre-soak mode.
Tip 3.
Place larger items first in the lower basket, then smaller items in the upper basket.
Tip 4.
Plates, saucers, tureens are located inside to the center. Large plates should be placed in the peripheral parts of the basket, small ones closer to the center. When placing the plates in the holders, make sure that there is a small gap between them: if they are located too close to each other, they may not rinse properly.
Tip 5
Cups and glasses should be placed on special holders with the bottom up so that water does not accumulate in them. Fragile glasses made of crystal or thin glass should not come into contact with each other and with the “neighbors” in the basket, otherwise there is a great chance that after washing there will be more happiness in your house, and fewer glasses.
Tip 6
Cutlery should be placed in the tray with the handles down - so it will be better for water to drain from them.
Tip 7.
It is advisable to wash dirty dishes (pans, pots, baking sheets) separately from relatively clean plates and glasses. Try to place oven trays sideways in the dishwasher so that they do not impede the ingress of water to the upper level dishes. But it is better to turn pots and pans upside down.
Tip 8
Do not overload the dishwasher! Do not stack dishes in it "mountain"! Water must have free access to the surface of every pot, every plate, every glass, otherwise, after washing, you will still get dirty dishes.Be sure to make sure that the dishes loaded into the dishwasher do not interfere with the free movement of the rocker arms rotating around their axis, from which water is sprayed during the process.
Did you manage to load the dishes in the dishwasher? And now once again carefully inspect its contents and make sure that everything placed there is allowed to be washed in dishwashers.
Dishwashing liquids and water softeners
Non-compliance with the norms for loading preparations for the dishwasher, erroneous settings of systems that dispense funds, any deviation from the established rules lead to a violation of the dishwashing process. As a result, at the end of the programs, you can observe the remains of funds on the dishes, poor quality of washing.
For washing it is used: detergent, salt, rinse aid. The rules for their use are described in detail by each manufacturer of dishwashers.
Salt for water softening
To clean the dishes well and avoid the appearance of a layer of scale, it is necessary to soften the water. This is especially true when using water with a high degree of hardness. The regenerating salt is loaded into the container of the water softener. The amount of loading is regulated depending on the stiffness indicators.
You can determine exactly how much softener to use based on the data on the hardness of tap water in a particular region. The amount of salt for different levels of hardness is indicated in the normalization table.

It is better to load salt into the machine before starting the washing program and, dissolving, it is immediately washed off. If you fill it up earlier, the solution can get on the metal and provoke the onset of the corrosion process.
Rinse aid for dish care
The product is used so that there are no stains on the dishes from water drops. Dishwashing liquid is being loaded into the container.
When the dishwasher indicator turns on, it signals that there is 1-2 loads of rinse aid left. The portion size that is fed into the system can be adjusted by setting it to a level from 1 to 4.

The required amount of rinse aid can be determined by the condition of the dishes after washing: if streaks remain, the portion can be reduced, if water stains are visible, increase
Suitable detergents
Detergents contain slightly alkaline substances containing enzymes that dissolve proteins and break down starch. Some of them contain oxygen bleaches and do a good job with stains from tea, ketchup.
It can be produced in the form of liquid, powder 0 tablets. The first two options allow automatic dosing of the required amount of detergent by the dishwasher. In the question of which is better: powder or tablets, the article we recommend will help you figure it out.
The tablet is used completely, but sometimes, in order to save money, it is divided in half. Rules for the use of funds from different manufacturers may differ, therefore, before use, study the information on the package.

If the dishes are not very dirty, there are no dried traces of food on them, a smaller amount of detergent can be used than indicated in the instructions.
You can use combined products, which include detergents, softening salt, rinse aid, if the hardness of your tap water is not higher than 21 ° dH.When using 3 in 1 products, the rinse aid and salt indicators turn off - most machines support this function.
There are also 4 in 1 and 5 in 1 products, which include additional components for the shine of stainless steel or for glass protection.
Specifications
The equipment is equipped with a metal case with a hinged front door. The control panel with display is located on the upper front edge of the doors of the 45 Edition Serie. Inside the washing chamber, there are pull-out trays for dishes, equipped with height adjustment and folding elements. To supply water, rotating blocks of nozzles are provided, sprayers are provided from below with the possibility of supplying water under increased pressure. To drive the pump and nozzle blocks, inverter-type motors were mounted, which increased the reliability of the machine while reducing power consumption.
Machines with a body width of 450 mm consume up to 10 liters of water per cycle, products with an increased capacity consume up to 13 liters of liquid.
How to wash not too dirty dishes
The question of how to use the dishwasher comes down to how to choose the right cleaning mode. In modern dishwashers, there are usually several programs. Most of them have, for example, a prewash function. It is usually used when there is not yet enough dirty dishes to fully load the machine.This prevents food residues from drying on the plates and cups. As soon as there are a lot of dishes, you can use the usual mode.
Also, most modern dishwashers have a quick wash function. It can be used to work with not too dirty dishes.
Dishwasher Tips
Finally, we recall a few important rules that you must always remember:
- Each manufacturer understands the load level of the dishwasher in its own way. After all, the concept of "utensil set" in each country may be different. Under such a set is meant the amount of dishes that one person needs for eating. If the manufacturer writes that the PMM holds 17 sets, place no more than 12-13, then you will not lose.
- Always leave space between adjacent objects.
- Try to wash the dishes immediately after eating so that the dirt on them does not dry out. This saves time and wasted detergent.
- Do not place heavy metal products and fragile glass objects nearby.
The figure shows the basic rules for laying dishes in the PMM
If you follow all the above rules and follow the instructions, the dishwasher filling procedure will take very little time. Remember: each manufacturer has its own recommendations for the location of utensils, depending on the location and number of spray arms.
Causes of damage to dishes in the machine
There are quite a few restrictions that limit the use of a dishwasher, and inept handling of appliances and improper loading leads to unexpected results.The conditions that are created in the dishwasher limit the possibility of washing certain types of dishes in it.
Factors that narrow the functionality of technology:
- very hot water;
- temperature changes;
- hot air drying;
- aggressive chemicals;
- prolonged contact with water, steam.
Temperature shock can crack even glassware made of tempered glass, which normally tolerates hot temperatures.
In some models of dishwashers, this factor is taken into account - the built-in heat exchanger eliminates sudden temperature changes.
To maximize the potential of technology, they purchase dishes with a manufacturer's mark on the possibility of washing in a dishwasher. But even following all the rules can lead to damage to cutlery.
How to start operation?
A dishwasher is bought in order to facilitate the work of the hostess and ensure reasonable water savings. In order not to prepare unpleasant surprises for yourself from the very beginning, the installation and connection of this household appliance should be entrusted to specialists.
So, the car is placed in the place allotted for it, and the plumbing and drain are connected. Now you can start using it.
Why do you need a "idle" start?
Bosch, like a number of other manufacturers of household appliances, strongly recommends a test run of the dishwasher.
It is necessary to make a "idle" start for the following reasons:
- it is necessary to eliminate lubricants accidentally preserved on the parts of the product, as well as dust and debris that got inside;
- we get the opportunity to check how well the machine is installed, to evaluate the rate of water inflow, the level of its heating, to see how the whole process of work proceeds, including the stages of draining and drying;
- if problems are identified, it becomes possible to eliminate them at the stage of test washing, eliminating the time-consuming unloading of dishes.
We know that in a normal car wash you cannot do without special tools, but the test run is no exception in this sense.
You will need special salt and other detergents included in the starter kit that customers are usually offered to purchase with a dishwasher.
A test run of the dishwasher is necessary, first of all, to check the quality of its installation and make sure that the unit is in good working order.
Algorithm for the first inclusion
What we need to know about the operating conditions of the purchased equipment is the level of water hardness in the region where it will work.
You are lucky with Bosch machines: buyers of this company's products do not need to be guided by their own experience in determining stiffness, as well as resort to folk methods.
The package of a number of models of this brand includes test strips for determining hardness. You just need to lower the paper strip with the reagents applied to its surface into the water for just a couple of seconds.
And then compare it with the table attached by the manufacturer. After completing these simple manipulations, you will be ready for a trial run of your acquisition.
Proper connection of the dishwasher involves installing it in a place determined for it (1) and connecting it to the power supply system (2), water supply (3) and sewerage (4) using standard hoses and a power cord
The launch procedure is quite simple. Follow these steps in sequence:
- open the machine by pulling its door towards you;
- pull out the lower basket to gain access to the lid that closes the water softening salt reservoir;
- unscrew the lid, pour water into the tank and pour special salt from the starter kit into it;
- screw the lid of the reservoir, and remove the water that could have spilled into the chamber while loading the salt with a rag;
- now set the salt consumption on the control panel, taking into account the previously determined water hardness.
Let's add some clarification
Please note that water is filled into the salt tank only once - before the first start. It must be filled to the top.
Salt is poured using a special funnel (or watering can), which is usually included in the kit. If there is no watering can, use a regular cup. You need to fill in the salt until it becomes visible through the filler hole.
Water is poured into this hole, located at the bottom of the unit's chamber, and special salt intended for dishwashers is poured.
The water displaced during backfilling should not confuse you: it should be so. After the tank lid is closed, the displaced water should be thoroughly wiped off. It must not be inside the chamber.
It remains to check whether the water supply tap is open, after which you can start the work process.To visualize the whole algorithm of actions, watch the video that we posted at the bottom of this article.
History of the dishwasher
In 1850, Joel Guoton was the first to patent a dishwashing machine. It was distinguished by manual control and a poor-quality cleaning process. Before him, they had already tried to create something similar, but the attempts were unsuccessful. They never entered history. Guoton's design was ineffective. A cylinder with a special shaft inside. On it, water flowed into buckets, which were then lifted by hand and poured out again.
Following him, in 1855, Josephine Cochrane acquired a patent for a new type of machine. History goes far into its past. Porcelain ware breaks easily, and she had many of those. One day, missing a few porcelain plates, she decided to create a dishwasher. Her husband died leaving large debts. Having embarked on the path of poverty, she went into the barn and left a few months later, introducing everyone to her car, which washes dishes by itself. This option was already close to the modern one.
The drum could rotate, the quality improved, the water was heated. But, due to the lack of repair specialists and because of the high price, it was not possible to distribute it. The maids also staged protests. Their argument was that the dishwasher was keeping them out of work. In the 50s of the twentieth century, the machine began to sell well.
The material condition improved, many women went to work. Washing dishes began to take less time, and the dishwasher has become an actual acquisition.1929 is famous for the creation of the first electric dishwasher.
The creation of a machine on automatic control took place in 1960. This version is very similar to the modern one. Dishes were installed. Then there was detergent and hot water. Then the water was drained, and the dishes were rinsed. In 1978, a touch-controlled machine was created.
How to wash not too dirty dishes

Among the frequently encountered, the pre-wash function should be highlighted. Most often, it is used in situations where you need to wash a small amount of dirty dishes that do not occupy the entire space of the machine.
Thanks to the use of this mode, it is possible to avoid the drying of food residues on plates and cups. When the missing amount of dirty dishes appears to fully load the dishwasher, the latter can be switched to normal operation.
Among other features that many modern models of dishwashers have, the quick wash function should be highlighted. It is most effective to use it in cases where it becomes necessary to wash dishes that have little dirt.
Dishwasher: how to use it to clean greasy dishes

However, in some cases, even placing dirty dishes in water with detergents does not clean them. Then you can turn to the special program "Very Dirty". When using it, a special mode will be activated, which turns off the cyclic washing. He can act until the desired result is achieved.
On the market, you can also find such models of dishwashers that can effectively clean specific dishes from dirt, including very fragile items.For example, if you need to restore the purity of crystal glasses, then you can use the "Delicate wash" mode.

Conclusion
We did not like how the old dishwasher handled the task. There were always lumps of food, the dishes smelled unpleasantly of chemicals, a couple of times it happened that the plates broke when washing. We then sinned in vain on the poor build quality of the dishwasher. It turned out that we simply did not know how to properly serve it and how to load the dishes. A few years ago, everyone in our family learned the rules I described, and the result is obvious.
The dishes are almost always washed completely, they never break or crack. The machine has been running for several years, no complaints. During this time, we saved a lot of money on the purchase of detergents, because they are used much more efficiently. The consumption of water and electricity after switching to the correct method of washing has decreased, checked by meters.
