Crystal is a special type of glass, which is made with the addition of barium oxide or lead. Additives make crystal more fragile and softer than ordinary glass, but at the same time give it special properties: crystal has indescribable transparency and refracts light rays like a diamond, sparkling with its facets and attracting the eye. All this makes it an impeccable m for the production of dazzlingly beautiful dishes, vases, chandeliers.
Crystal dishes are in any house, and in some houses there is also a crystal chandelier - large, languid and beautiful.
But such dishes are never used as daily dishes, they are cherished and taken out on huge holidays. Therefore, most of the time, crystal just stands on a shelf, decorating a transparent showcase of a cabinet. Crystal vases also stand empty from bouquet to bouquet, and we wash the chandelier only during general cleaning. All this leads to the fact that the crystal loses its own radiance, can fade and start to look less amazing. To wash the crystal to a shine, the tips of this article will help.

Several options for designer chandeliers from glasses - solar or for vision. Round chandelier - from some lenses taken out of ordinary glasses.

Happy New Year! With new happiness)!
A blizzard of paper snowflakes. Everything is like in childhood. It's New Year's Eve, Comrades!
70 templates for cutting paper snowflakes from the site and a few tips for using - under the cut.
It is better to use not office paper, but as thin as possible - cigarette, for example. But this only matters for cutting out very jewelry paper snowflakes. The result can be additionally decorated - with a shlitter, glitter, paints - and can be laminated - then your paper snowflakes, firstly, will become almost eternal, and secondly, you can hang them on a balcony, veranda or street - or even decorate them with a living growing Christmas tree!
By the way - another elegant way to decorate a street Christmas tree, for example, in the country - "ice snowflakes". Pour saucers of water, place paper snowflakes or lace napkins in them, as well as “loops” 15 cm long made of fabric or ropes. Take out in the cold). When the ice freezes - bring it into the house for 15 minutes - and it will easily fall behind the saucer - and you can hang it on the street). On such ice Christmas decorations, the lights from the garland and fireworks play beautifully).
A few years ago, I talked with an artist from the Netherlands, Ann Bakker. She made wedding accessories, including stunningly beautiful chandeliers made from garbage - the very one that we don’t notice under our feet:
I was embarrassed to ask how exactly she makes them. But there is such an assumption that, when soaking sticks and twigs, like a vine, she simply starts by braiding something round, smearing it with pva glue or varnish; gradually adding branches and forming a "nest-shaped" hat. Which she then decorates with glass pendants from old chandeliers, Christmas decorations, cutlery and feathers.
There are many more of her ideas under the cut:
more ideas - what can be done from beautiful dishes
A few more ideas for inspiration - what can be made from beautiful porcelain plates and cups - from cups to watches:
And, in my opinion, if you have family / collection cups that are on the shelf for kitchen design, they are not used - to make such a decorative shadow behind them is also not bad):
glasses - cups
The combination of stemmed crystal glasses and porcelain teacups looks surreal, especially if you make it more decorative, the photos do not really give the idea in this regard.
How to do it is not very clear. And whether there was a description for them - I don’t remember anymore, apparently not. I think they cut the glasses first - as we wrote below about cutting glass bottles - and then glue them with a powerful super glue like Gorilla Glue to the cups.
DIY creative chairs
Such an unusual lot was seen on the hammer, which prompted us to the idea of today's post. Inexpensive and 200 ml for a small chair is enough.
So we dedicate today's post to them - chairs that are easy to make on your own. For them, you can use a carpet or carpet (!), dense fabric (of the most unusual colors - both inexpensive and natural - this is always in IKEA stores). And you can repeat all this using jeans - you can also participate in our competition of ideas for altering jeans with them.
We will not write here about complex patterns and calculations that require special skills from you. Only the simplest models.
Crystal in modern interiors
This used to be their place exclusively in ballrooms and royal boudoirs. Now, when advanced technologies have made it possible to significantly speed up and reduce the cost of the production of crystal, combine it with other materials and make a variety of colors, you can stir lighting fixtures anywhere from bathrooms to hallways in typical urban apartment buildings.

The multi-tiered chic majestic crystal chandelier still remains the queen of the genre and fits perfectly into the interiors decorated in a classic style, giving them solemnity and pomposity. Lighting fixtures with Swarovski crystals will help to add some exclusivity and modernize the interior somewhat.
Crystal chandeliers for Art Nouveau style are devoid of aristocratic chic and pretentiousness, they do not occupy a significant area, but rather look like bright, shiny pancakes, which allows them to be used to decorate ceilings in houses with low ceilings. Even for newfangled hi-tech, you can choose a suitable crystal chandelier, it will most likely be colored or monochrome black, with chrome inserts. Solemn baroque correspond to chandeliers with candelabra.
Crystal lighting fixtures in the interior of different rooms
Living room
Traditionally, crystal lighting fixtures are installed in the heart of the home - the living room. Especially if you want to give it a festive touch, nobility and aristocracy. A chic classic crystal chandelier will illuminate the room, and the light will be refracted in it with millions of bright flashes and sparks.
Bedroom
For bedrooms, it is better to use less pompous and "branched" models, they should not distract attention. The ideal choice is a modest, neat and elegant chandelier
Kitchen
Purely for practical reasons, it is worth avoiding crystal in the kitchen, otherwise it is regular, but it’s not a fact that washing the chandelier from fatty deposits will be the hostess’s favorite pastime.
But in the dining area or dining room, if such is provided in your home, such a device will fit very organically.
Hallway
Crystal lighting fixtures are also appropriate in the hallways, however, due to the fact that this type of room usually does not differ in impressive size, we advise you to give preference to compact chandeliers.
Crystal curtains
Threads with beads and crystals strung on them, called crystal curtains, are used to decorate door and window openings, zoning the space of kitchens, hallways, and living rooms. Ideally, this accessory will fit into classic and oriental interiors, creating an atmosphere of magic and fairy tales. In addition to a purely decorative function, crystal curtains will help to beat many design ideas, thanks to the play of light and its gentle refraction.

Familiar and therefore boring and banal fabric curtains will not cheer you up on a gloomy autumn day, as well as give a festive accent to an ordinary home. But thin threads, on which iridescent beads of different sizes are strung, swaying like algae under the influence of the ocean current, will cope with such a task unconditionally. By the way, crystal curtains may well become a full-fledged basis for an interior in a marine style.
If the room where the crystal curtains are planned is rich in windows and natural sunlight, then you can enjoy romantic overflows and its play all day long. And in the evenings, thanks to directional and well-placed lamps, you will be enveloped in color overflows of light on the ceiling and walls.
Agree, just such an environment will create an ideal, romantic, slightly mysterious and fabulous atmosphere in your bedroom.
The crystals used to decorate crystal curtains can be either transparent or plain. It is bright crystals made in one color that will help to beat the lighting and the overall color and stylistic design of the room in the most beneficial way.
The use of crystal curtains in public areas will not only emphasize the lighting, but also create the impression of privacy, which is so lacking in beauty salons, restaurants, nightclubs.
Christmas toy
A children's toy is glued to the bottom of the lid with superglue (you can borrow something from the Kinder Surprise collection or make a whole landscape with a miniature house on your own), preferably on a winter theme. A handful of finely chopped foil is poured into the jar and filled to the brim with the preservation mixture from the previous example. The jar is tightly closed with a lid with a glued toy. Check in advance that the dimensions of the toy allow it to easily fit in the jar. Now you can shake and flip the jar and enjoy the whimsical snowfall slowly covering the toy.

Stone programming
Stones are the living kingdom of minerals, and they are able to serve a person. However, each of your stones must know what to do with you.
He is waiting for your intention and command. Therefore, you need to program your stones.
The program should be formulated simply and clearly, and specifically, without discrepancies.
In a pile of stones lying together with a program, there can be only one. Then it is worth remembering which program is embedded in which stone.
It is not necessary to put stones in all rooms at once.
If there are not enough stones, then you can start with one room that is most important to you.
You can make an altar in your house and expand it energetically to the whole house. To do this, different pebbles should be spread around the perimeter of your home and included on the altar. Get a kind of network. You can choose stones for the perimeter from the lists for rooms.
How to bring the desired program into the stone
It is possible that one of your stones will be the largest, most important, powerful. We program it. He is the holder of your main idea.
I advise you to write your program on a piece of paper and put it under the crystal for a few minutes. Let him respect.
But each room can have its own holder. Then program some crystals or stones.
Programming order:
1. Determine the right stones, prepare the time and place for your programming ritual
2. Write notes for each stone, put under them for reading.
3. Now take each stone in your hands, press it to your heart and pronounce your intention to it three times, then exhale three times on it, move on to the next one.
4. Then say aloud to all your stones what they should be doing together as a team of your support.
5. Give thanks to the stones and take them to their places.
Stones need to be washed sometimes, after stress and shocks, wash more often. The program you put in will not be washed off with water.

Repetitive and unusual uses
Old, no longer wearable items can be used during cleaning - for mopping or dusting. Or you can show your imagination and give them a “second life” by making, for example, a rug in the hallway from colored T-shirts. To do this, old T-shirts are cut into narrow long strips, and after twisting them a little, they are tied with a thick hook.
Another no less original idea is a cosmetic bag from a man's tie. To do this, two old ties need to be ripped along the seam. Smooth out the fabric with an iron. And sew a rectangular bag out of it, sewing a zipper to one side.
The straight cut back of the jeans with pockets will become an apron for storing tools. You can also make a small backpack out of them. Things made of dense fabric, sewn together in the form of a large rectangle, will become a hanging hammock. Soft toys, covers for lamps and vases, covers for stools, potholders for the kitchen can be sewn from fabrics that are suitable in texture. It is quite possible to turn old socks into mitts. And make mittens from a sweater. If there is a small dog in the house, then you can alter your old clothes and create original outfits for walking for her.
Having given free rein to my own imagination or using ready-made ideas even at home, it is possible to create original and exclusive things.
How and how to clean crystal glassware
To wash this utensils, standard detergents are used. You can use folk methods that cope well with various contaminants.
The most popular options are:
- Laundry soap. How to wash crystal dishes with this product? Initially, the soap is crushed with a regular grater, resulting in small chips. It dissolves in water at room temperature. A soft sponge is lowered into the resulting solution, with which all surfaces of the dishes are cleaned. After using soap, greasy stains remain on the parts of the dishes. You can get rid of them with a weak solution of vinegar or polishing.
- Soda. With this tool, an effective solution is made that removes residual liquids from glasses or wine glasses. To do this, the solution is poured directly into the dishes and left for 5 minutes. After the product is thoroughly washed.
- Starch. This tool is used in dry form: a small amount of starch is applied to a paper or cloth napkin. She wipes all parts of the crystal dishes. After removing turbidity and stains, thoroughly rinse the products to remove starch residue.
- Chalk. It is not allowed to clean the products by any mechanical means, so paste is used instead of dry chalk. Initially, the product is carefully ground into powder. Then it is mixed in equal proportions with pure water. Before use, make sure that there are no large particles of chalk.
- Raw potatoes. The vegetable has unique bleaching characteristics, therefore, with its help, darkening and yellowness on chandeliers and other crystal products are eliminated. To do this, one potato is peeled and rubbed on a fine grater. The resulting slurry is distributed throughout the product. After a few minutes, the dishes are well washed and rinsed with water.
- Vinegar solution. Most often, housewives want to know how to wash crystal so that it shines. For this, a special mixture of vinegar and salt is used. 1 st. l. salt mixed with 2 tbsp. l. 9 percent bite and 2 tbsp. l. water. The resulting solution is applied to the crystal and left for 10 minutes. With it, you can wash all the dirt and eliminate yellow spots. If there is a painting on the dishes, then you need to use a more gentle composition. For this, 1 tbsp. l. vinegar is added to 1 liter of water, the dishes are washed with the resulting solution. This does not cause any harm to the gilding or painting.
Purchased chemicals are also used. How to wash crystal? To do this, you can use ordinary dishwashing liquid or solutions designed for glasses.
Hardware stores offer special products for crystal. They can be represented by gel-like formulations, aerosols or sprays. It is forbidden to use powders or products containing aggressive active substances for crystal products, which include alkalis and chlorine.
Basic cleaning rules
Like any expensive thing, crystal products require careful handling at home. The less often you touch them, rearrange them from place to place, the better. In order not to disturb the crystal unnecessarily, you can clean it with a dry cloth, brush off the dust with a special brush.

But with prolonged storage, the dust layer becomes very huge, the products lose their own radiance, become cloudy. In this case, they need to be washed. Do not avoid cleaning and after the feast, which was used crystal.
Here are the rules to follow when washing crystal dishes and other items:
- Use slightly warm water, because in hot or cool water the crystal tarnishes. If the water is very hot, then the products may crack.
- Do not use a cloth that leaves lint.
It is best to choose microfiber cloths.
- It is convenient to wash crystal glassware with cotton gloves.
- Do not use powder or other abrasive cleaners that may scratch the product.
Not recommended wash crystal in dishwasher, but if the washing mode is at a low temperature, then the dishwasher will make it easier for you to work. Before sending the crystal to the compartments of the dishwasher, check in the light for small cracks and chips on it.
But it is better to wash fragile products by hand.
VIDEO TO HELP:
How you can use old crystal to good use
Stained glass from crystal fragments
For this, it is not necessary to use items in good condition. You can use fragments, or, for example, break a glass that remains in a single copy from the entire set.
For work you need to prepare:
- wooden frame of suitable size;
- crystal items (bulky dishes are best);
- glass balls and other decor items;
- hooks, chains on which the frame will hang;
- silicone glue.
On a flat surface, you need to lay out all the items in the composition. Large objects will make the composition more voluminous and interesting. You can use glasses of various shapes, salad bowls, candy bowls and plates. Smaller elements should be placed between them to fill the space.
All the details of the collage should be fixed in place with silicone glue. If this is a panel, it is worth attaching hooks or chains to the frame, with which it will be held on the wall.
With the help of such a collage, you can decorate not only the interior, but also the garden or the facade of the house. Very often with the help of such products decorate window openings.
glass candlestick
You can turn the glass over and place a small candle on the leg, and place a decorative element inside. Also, you can pour a small amount of colored decorative pebbles into the glass and put a candle. Such a candlestick will create a unique atmosphere for a romantic holiday.
Lanterns for the site
To do this, it is enough to use a solar battery, a light bulb and a few old glasses. During the day, the battery will be charged from sunlight, and at night the device will help illuminate the suburban area.
Painting old dishes with stained glass paints
An ordinary vase can also be used for its intended purpose. In order to fit it into a modern interior, you should paint the walls with stained glass paint. These are waterproof compositions that differ in different levels of transparency. Each piece of crystal has a shape or pattern. Even a beginner can make a unique vase or candy bowl.
Christmas tree decorations
From crystal glasses that have lost their legs, you can make bells. At the base of the glass, use a drill to make a hole in the glass. In order for the glass not to break, you need to pour a little water inside, and do not use high speeds. In order to remove the edges of the chips, you can use the usual contour for glass. As a tongue, you can use a bead on a wire or cord. The glass itself should be painted and decorated to your liking.
Crystal chandelier
In order for a large bowl or salad bowl not to collect dust, but to be useful, it can be used as an ordinary chandelier. To do this, simply insert a cartridge with a light bulb, and supplement the design with the necessary details. Thanks to the relief walls, you can achieve the effect of intricate lace patterns on the walls of the room. You can use one large object, or several small glasses.
For the manufacture of such an interior item, it is necessary to prepare a frame (bought at a hardware store), wire, fishing line, a lamp with a battery or a pendant with a light bulb, and crystal dishes.
You need to attach a fishing line to the lampshade, and hang the structure from the hook on the ceiling for it. The more attachment points, the better, as the crystal is very heavy. Using wire, fix the glasses on the frame, which is already hanging on the hook. Leave free space between the pieces. After that, a light bulb is placed in the center of the composition. If you use dishes of different heights, you can create several tiers.
Lampshade for table lamp
It is enough to fix a crystal vase on the basis of an ordinary table lamp, or even a bottle, and get an original item for decorating the interior.
Decoration for a summer cottage
From old dishes, you can make an installation or an interesting composition that will decorate the area near the cottage or country house.
Do not rush to throw away old crystal vases or glasses. Every item can be given a second life. a little imagination and improvised materials will turn an old item into a highlight for the interior.
