Pressure sewer
The principle of operation remains the same - the new pipeline is pulled along the route of the old one without digging trenches. The main difference from replacing a free-flow sewer is that the old pipeline does not collapse.
That is, a new pipe of a slightly smaller diameter is simply pulled through the old sewer. Given that the diameter is decreasing, this method cannot be used for free-flow sewage. Due to the decrease in diameter, the throughput will also decrease, which means that the likelihood of clogging will increase.
In pressurized systems, the reduction in cross section can be compensated for by a slight increase in pressure. Therefore, this method is not used to replace sewers in private homes.

Replacement of a pipeline operating in pressure mode
Compared with the destruction of the old pipeline, this method has the advantage that a new pipe can be pulled not only in the sections between the wells, but also along an inclined line, that is, from the surface. In addition, the old pipeline will serve as additional protection.
Renovation of a bathroom and toilet in a Stalinist house

This is the most time-consuming option for bathroom renovation, and therefore the most expensive. The total estimated cost of the execution of the work increases, and more costs are required for rough material, primarily for plaster and cement screed.

It is also worth noting the dismantling work, because it is often easier to break the partitions of the bathroom than to put them in order. For several times, our company has encountered such a problem during repairs that the partitions are made of knocked together boards, on which the old plaster is already crumbling, and the option of plastering them disappears by itself. It is easier to dismantle all the walls and build new and even ones that do not require 10 bags of plaster.
Another issue is the bathroom floor. Here you can not do without opening the floors, followed by a screed and self-leveling floor.

And only after these works, you can proceed to our plumbing, with which unpleasant moments can also arise.A common problem is old cast iron, from which the entire sewer system is made. There were cases when there was an unpleasant smell in the bathroom and toilet, and no means, except for the overhaul of the bathroom and toilet, help. Behind the toilet there is a rather long socket, which makes it difficult to move the toilet close to the back wall. And it (the bell) has to be taken out and thrown out in different ways, sometimes it happens quickly and accurately, but more often it is more difficult and longer.

With regards to the sewer that runs throughout the bathroom and goes into the riser, it must be completely disassembled, in its place we lay a modern PVC pipe.
In Stalin's houses it is difficult to designate a single water supply system, as a rule, it is different. So in one house, hot water is supplied from a pipe that goes to a heated towel rail, and in another, hot water has its own tap that comes out of the wall, where the riser goes to two apartments on the floor at once.
When arranging plumbing in the bathroom, the question arises of how to place the bath, as there are 2 options, leave it as it was or turn it 90 degrees (we have photos of two versions on our website).

The bathroom in the "Stalin" is a fairly spacious room, and therefore we advise you to make a preliminary design project. A well-chosen version of the layout of ceramic tiles on the floor and walls will only emphasize and decorate the interior of the bathroom.
Often in such bathrooms there is a window between the bathroom and the toilet, and in the toilet there is a window to the kitchen. How to deal with them? Again, there is a choice.You can seal the window openings with drywall or foam blocks or install double-glazed windows.

Replacement of sewer pipes
As a rule, the replacement of the sewer bed and pipes is carried out according to the same principle as plumbing. In any case, you have to start with making calculations and planning future sewers.

layout of plastic sewer pipes
Then you can proceed to the plumbing processes:
when the water is turned off, the old sewage system is dismantled, as well as plumbing fixtures
As for the toilet, it is quite difficult to remove it; for this, first, using an adjustable wrench, you need to disconnect the hoses from the tank;
pipes located away from the riser can be dismantled with milk, and those that are closer are carefully cut with a grinder;
then you need to swing the old parts and pull them out of the tee, while it is important not to damage the socket;
a rubber gasket is inserted into the last element, and the joint is coated with a sealing compound;
since the toilet is considered the first point for water intake, the installation of a new sewage system must be carried out from it. The joint formed between the pipe and the toilet must be carefully treated with a sealant or silicone compound.
A pipe will be attached at the site of each joint, only it is important to prevent fractures;
according to the same principle, sewer pipes are changed, which are diverted to other points of water intake.
For a better understanding of the process, you can watch the replacement of the sewer in the apartment with your own hands, a video in which everything is clearly explained.
It is mandatory to make the slope of the pipes equal to 2 degrees towards the riser. If you plan to carry out plumbing work, it is best to immediately change the pipes for sewerage, water supply and heating.
Stalinka with reinforced concrete floors

Details 6602 Dranka is a tragicomedy that happened to the Stalinists half a century ago and continues today. What could be more problematic than overhauling wooden partitions with shingles? Only their combination with wooden floors is worse.
Shingles are small planks stuffed on the wall that serve as a support for a thick layer of plaster in the stalinka.
Inside, the interior partitions of stalinok consist of a wooden frame and are mostly hollow. This is very light, prefabricated, but absolutely devoid of sound insulation.
The fact is that these wooden walls in stalin with shingles often carry a certain weight of the ceiling! Well, the good news is that not all walls are in stalin with shingles.
In the late stalinkas of the 1950s with reinforced concrete floor beams, the walls are also made of foam blocks, but without the use of shingles.
"Stalin": arguments "for" and "against" the purchase
The builders of the "stalinok", mostly erected in the late 30s - early 50s of the last century (the first buildings were laid in 1935), did not save on materials, or on the area of \u200b\u200bthe apartments, or on the height of the ceilings, which makes such housing against the backdrop of modest urban boxes is special even now. But what does a person who is looking to buy a Stalinka need to know?
Consider all the pros and cons of such a choice.There is a difference Turning to the characteristics of the houses, we must note an important fact: despite the common name, “Stalinka” and “Stalinka” are still discord.
At first, these houses were built in the main - with the appropriate luxury and layout, and this continued until the war. Usually,

Plumbing, furniture and accessories
The main piece of furniture is, of course, the bath itself, which can have not only different sizes, but also the shape itself. The main thing is that the font should be comfortable, functional, “work out” the area occupied by itself and create a harmonious space. Often the bathtub is replaced with a shower cubicle or a shower corner, which saves space even more.
Furniture is used to a minimum, that is, you will have to learn how to manage with shelves, open hanging racks, a washbasin cabinet and corner sections. Other accessories are usually represented by holders for towels, toilet paper, glasses, faucets, baskets, candles and other decorative and functional paraphernalia.
If you are the owner of an apartment built according to the Stalinist project, then the main problem is the repair of all rooms. If any solutions can be suitable for living space, then bathroom renovation in stalinka is a special specificity of decoration. This is what will be discussed in our article.
Layouts: family and communal
What are the layouts of apartments in Stalinist houses? The most common housing option in kirovkas is two- and three-room apartments with spacious (16-22 sq. m) rooms, but miniature kitchens (from 3 sq. m) and cramped hallways. There were no closets or storage areas. Apartments in the houses of the 1920s and 1930s differ: the former were quite small, with low (2.5 meters) ceilings and narrow staircases, the latter were slightly more spacious.But in both cases, the areas were optimized to ensure that the apartment could be populated by unrelated tenants at the rate of a room per family.
Apartments in pre-war nomenklatura houses copied the layouts of pre-revolutionary family apartments in the front buildings of tenement houses: they included offices, living rooms, bedrooms (for one or two family members), and sometimes rooms for servants and spacious storerooms.
The layouts of apartments in serial Stalinist houses are similar to those in kirovkas: two- or three-room apartments, suitable for both family and communal settlement. In houses that were built according to standard designs of all-Union and regional series, there are usually no adjoining rooms and the hallways are cramped, but the kitchens are quite spacious.
Typical houses do not have decor, the facades were faced with silicate brick
It is not easy to find a decent one-room apartment in a Stalinist building: at that time they were considered an economically unprofitable type of housing and no more than 5% were included in projects. Today, studying the advertisements for the sale of stalins, you can see that most often the "odnushki" in them are located on the first floors. That is, these are janitors, intended for household staff, or apartments that “drew”, as they say, according to the residual principle - due to inconsistencies in the projects: at the end of the building, next to the arch, wall to wall with a deli located in a residential building, a library , club ... Thanks to this origin, one-room apartments on the ground floors of stalinok sometimes have ceilings up to 4 m and at the same time are very spacious - from 35 to 45 square meters. m.
Tips and ideas for design
The ability to arrange furniture in stalinka to your liking and not be afraid to overload the space at the same time indescribably pleases the owners of such apartments. A lot of controversy arises about the unification and separation of the bathroom. But, as designers advise, you need to listen to inner desires.
Our black and white bathroom is just perfect. The contrasting combination in the design is chosen so harmoniously that the colors do not tire. The room is neither dark nor overly bright. Just perfect.

We have a disconnected bathroom and I didn’t imagine it differently. The decision was influenced by the fact that all the smells will remain in another room and when I wash my face I will not have to inhale them. At the same time, I really wanted to design the toilet in one color, and the bath in another, which I did. Now these are two completely independent rooms.
Despite the apparent simplicity, the repair of a bathroom in the houses of the “pre-Khrushchev” period is the most difficult and protracted stage in the renovation of all housing. And the point here is not even in the frills of design or money problems, but in the meager dimensions of the room itself, studded with communications and corners. In order for the bathroom in the “Stalin” to become close to ideal, a lot of time and effort is spent on preparatory work, or rather, on bringing the pipes into working and divine condition.
Possible conflicts and their solution
When replacing a riser in an apartment, its owner may encounter situations that prevent repair work. Conflict cases can be as follows:
- Refusal of the management company to replace faulty equipment.
- The disagreement of the neighbors to replace the riser in an apartment building.
It is not worth delaying with their decision, especially if the replacement of the emergency element is required in the very near future.
When contacting the management company with an application to replace the riser in the MKD, it is possible to face a refusal to carry out work. The reasons may be different, but, most often, the managerial organization refers to the serviceability of the communication system. In this case, the owner has the full right to sue the Criminal Code, as well as to recover monetary compensation from them for the damage caused.
A common emergency pipeline often leaks not only in one apartment, but also with neighbors from above or below. Or the riser is in an unusable condition and requires a total replacement, and not just a separate “fragment”. Therefore, installation should be carried out in several apartments. But, there are cases when one of the owners refuses to carry out the necessary work.
It is possible to solve the problem through conversations, but they do not always lead to the desired result. In this situation, the most correct solution will be a trial. But, not other apartment owners should apply to the court, but the Criminal Code. In his statement to the judicial authorities, the representative of the Criminal Code puts forward a requirement for the court to force the owner to replace the riser.
What do you need to pay attention to?

The small area of \u200b\u200bthe "Stalinist" bathroom obliges:
- He is attentive to the location of all details, starting with plumbing and ending with decor items, since the classic interior of such a room is very far from ideal;
- Use those finishing materials and plumbing that steal as little usable area as possible.This means that more budgetary plastic for walls should be replaced with tiles or plaster, followed by painting;
- Since all communications in the "Stalin" are usually in a deplorable state, they need to be changed. Please note that it will not be possible to change their location, it remains only to adapt to it;
- Bathrooms in Stalinist houses are practically not remodeled due to sewage flow, which is impossible to move.
As already announced above, repairs in the “Stalinist” bathroom require a global and labor-intensive preparation of the room itself. It's a paradox, but often the lion's share of the saved money is spent on the preparatory work.
What needs to be done first?

Initially, the following questions should be considered and evaluated:
- Will you be rescheduling?
- What is the original state of the bathroom?
- Is the floor or waterproofing broken?
- Do walls need to be leveled?
- Will the pipeline have to be changed, or can the existing one be left?
Based on the answers given to yourself, a plan of future events is drawn up, an estimate is made and you can proceed. In the event that the bath in the Stalinist house is undergoing a major renovation, you can follow these recommendations regarding the sequence of all work:
- With the help of a perforator, all remnants of the old coating are removed from the floor surface, up to the appearance of a concrete base;
- We clean the floor from dirt and dust, put waterproofing on it, which must necessarily go 15 cm onto the walls;
- A concrete screed is being made;
- The paint is peeled off the walls with a metal brush, and if they are covered with tiles, you will have to wield the same perforator or chisel;
- If there is a need to change communications, it is better to do it at this stage, and not after finishing the walls;
- It is better to start changing the pipeline from the riser. Pipes can be fastened to the wall with clamps or laid in strobes;
- If there are significant irregularities on the walls, they are eliminated with cement-based plaster, after which all surfaces are covered with putty.
What to do with the walls?

Thinking over the design of the bathroom in the "Stalin" it is worth considering that the surface of the walls can be finished with the following materials:
- Dye. Wall painting is the fastest and most cost-effective option that requires careful preparation of the walls. It is recommended to use special coloring compositions that are able to withstand high humidity and have a presentable appearance;
- Wall panels. A bathroom in a Stalinist house can be finished with the so-called "plastic lining", which can have a very different color and please with an unusual, realistic and high-quality texture. The panels themselves are mounted on a pre-mounted crate made of wooden planks or metal profiles, firmly fixed with dowels. Plastic can be attached with a construction stapler or ordinary liquid nails. Before starting the installation of the crate, it is recommended to attach several boards to the walls, which will facilitate the subsequent hanging of the mirror, cabinets and shelves;
- Tile. This is the best option, which at the same time pleases with both practicality and durability. For laying tiles, you need perfectly even walls, on which markings are applied, as in the photo. It is much easier to lay the tiles evenly and beautifully along the drawn lines. During the work, a special glue is used, which is applied with a notched trowel.The gaps between the tiles are filled with moisture-resistant grout.
Floor finish

The design of the bathtub in the "stalinka" involves a small selection of floor coverings. The most budget option is linoleum. As practice shows, this is not the best solution from an aesthetic point of view, so it is much more expedient to consider all the same ceramic tiles. It is available in a variety of sizes, which reduces waste and simplifies installation.
It is important to choose a material of the appropriate class of abrasion (wear resistance) and resistance to mechanical damage.
Combined or separate bathroom in stalinka?
If the area allows, and in Stalinka it allowed, then it is better to make a separate bathroom. Thus, a family where many people live will not be able to depend on each other. The advantage of a separate toilet is also the exclusion of the penetration of unpleasant odors outside the room.

The disadvantages of a separate bathroom include the need to spend more materials during repairs than with a combined one. These are the same doors and wall cladding. However, if the owners are not embarrassed by the simultaneous use of the bathroom as a hygiene room and a toilet, then it is quite possible to make a large and spacious room where all the necessary elements will fit: a bath, a washbasin, a toilet, a bidet, a wardrobe and a hanger.

Arrangement of plumbing
The photo below shows examples of layouts for 10 sq.m.
As you can see, both a bathtub and a shower cabin can fit perfectly here. At the same time, there is more than enough space for movement.It is hard to argue with the convenience of the location of the bathtub and shower in the bathroom. You can take a morning shower in a cabin, and after a working day, relax in a bath full of fragrant water. The photo shows that there was a place for both drawers for linen and a bidet. But if you wish, you can install a washing machine instead of drawers.

The location of the boiler is not difficult to imagine. It can be attached above the drawers or taken out to another room. Towel dryers are an integral part of the bathroom, as they not only allow you to dry towels faster, but also play an aesthetic role. Thanks to the variety of models made in the form of a snake, ladder or with other bends, interior design can be made extremely stylish.

By the way, about style. Thanks to the large areas, any style will look great in a Stalinist bathroom. Classic, Scandinavian or Provence will work especially well.
A photo example is presented below.

The washbasin plays a special role in the room, so it should not only fit in size, but also repeat the style common to other elements of the interior. These can be rectangular models built into a cabinet or hanging oval sinks. If the family is large, then the Stalinka layout may well accommodate two sinks.

Flat
In the process of repairing an apartment, you will only encounter the need to re-plan the plumbing. Heating is central, its wiring is designed by the builders. The maximum that you can do is to move the radiators that interfere with you a little.
So plumbing.
The wiring can be:
Collector. Each plumbing fixture has a separate pair of pipes that are assembled on a common comb - a manifold.

Looks intimidating
Consistent. One pair of valves; all devices are connected to a common pipe through tees. This does not interfere with putting their own valves on each of them, but they will be located directly near the device.

typical representative
Mixed. For example, the wiring to the mixers is made independent, through a comb, but the toilet bowl and the washing machine are powered in series.

Mixed type of water supply: some consumers are powered directly from the collector, some through tees
In typical apartments, serial wiring is traditionally used. It is easier to perform, requires less material
It is also important that in this case only two pipes decorate the wall, and not six or ten
A typical wiring diagram today is as follows:
- In the bathroom or pantry there are water supply risers, the outlets from which are decorated with a pair of valves;
- Immediately after the valve is a tee, from which the toilet cistern is powered;
- Further, a welded connection is made to the tap in the bathroom, which is mounted directly on the pipes. The pipes are fixed to the wall with a bracket standing on the welding.
- In the kitchen, the faucet is mounted on the sink and connected to the water supply with flexible hoses.
Possible variations are:
- In hostels - small families, there are often two sets of water supply risers per apartment. In the kitchen, only the kitchen faucet is powered from the risers; the piping in the bathroom is exactly as described above.
- The coil - the heater in the bathroom in new homes is just a coil of the water supply riser. However, in Khrushchev you can see a heated towel rail through which hot water enters the mixer. It warms up only from water intake.The ancestors left us more exotic options - heated towel rails can be powered from a separate riser or even represent a kind of “short circuit” between water supply and heating systems that works in winter.

In the stalinkas of the 30s of construction, you can also see such heated towel rails. The battery, by the way, obviously changed after the construction of the house: in the thirties, the fins of the cast-iron sections looked different
The tank in old houses often has a separate tie-in to the cold water supply riser. Given the overgrowth of steel water pipes, this seems like a great idea.
How to do it better?
If you have a small apartment, where all plumbing fixtures are located on one side of the risers, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Serial wiring diagram, ball valves at the entrance to the apartment, mandatory coarse filters.
The tank, if possible, is best powered from the riser with a separate tie-in. Then flushing water will not scald anyone in the shower.

Don't make life difficult for yourself
When the bathroom and kitchen are on opposite sides of the water risers, the collector wiring ceases to look like excess. Valves concentrated at one point are very convenient, but the costs will not increase in any significant way.
Nobody bothers to use mixed-type wiring: make your own valve for the toilet, bidet and washing machine, and then dilute the water with tees.
