How to clean the toilet from the stone folk methods

If your toilet is so "overgrown" that the brush no longer saves, and you and your guests are simply unpleasant to use the toilet because of disgust, it is worth arming yourself with the knowledge accumulated by many previous generations. How to remove plaque in toilet at home?

Folk methods can be applied in private homes with a local sewer system (septic tank) and plastic pipelines.

table vinegar, applied to contaminated place, after a short period of time it is able to dissolve (soften) limescale and urinary stone. Before use, pump out the bottom of the toilet bowl and wipe the inside of the bowl with a dry cloth, then moisten the cloth liberally with vinegar and apply it to the dirt. After 2-6 hours, plaque can be cleaned with a scraper (not metal).Repeat if necessary.
To enhance the effect, vinegar can be heated to 50 degrees, mixed with baking soda (1 tablespoon of soda for 200 g of vinegar) or iodine solution (proportions 1 to 1).

Oxalic technical acid, which looks like tiny crystals without color, is a strong enough substance that can cope with urinary stone. The agent is poured under the rim of the toilet in a dry form or after dilution with water / alcohol.

Citric acid is a widely available and economical remedy for plaque control. A few sachets of food-grade citric acid will dissolve plaque and stone on the surface of the toilet in about one night.

The more serious the problem, the more acid will be needed for cleaning.
Attention! According to the majority of the owners who struggled with lime deposits in the toilet bowl, it is citric acid in 1-3 applications that allows you to completely solve the problem and return the plumbing to a new state. Sprinkling a generous amount of baking soda on the site of plaque formation will also help to eliminate it.

The event is best done at night to ensure a long exposure of soda to the plumbing surface.

Sprinkling plenty of baking soda on the area where plaque has formed will also help to eliminate it. The event is best done at night to ensure a long exposure of soda to the plumbing surface.

In the morning, the toilet will need to be cleaned with a brush and, if the plaque does not disappear, repeat again. Soda for the effectiveness of the procedure can be added to any cleaning agent.

Carbonated water containing a large amount of citric acid (Sprite, Cola) can dissolve plaque.You will need 2-3 liter bottles of carbonated drink, which must be poured into the toilet at night (you can attach a rag soaked in soda to the inner surface).

How it was

Somehow, just before going to bed, my middle son made his way to the kitchen and opened a bottle of Coca-Cola brought by a loving aunt, thinking that I was already asleep and would not prevent him from drinking a drink forbidden in our house. I caught him when he only managed to take a few sips. In her hearts she grabbed a bottle, in front of his eyes she threw cola into the toilet, accompanying this with understandable notations, and sent him to bed.

In the morning, after visiting the toilet and flushing the toilet, I was amazed at the changes that had taken place. In general, I consider myself a fairly clean housewife, the toilet (like the sink) is not in such a deplorable state for me. But then I saw that it could be much better: the toilet just shone. The limescale on the edge of the bowl has dissolved, a small rusty spot has disappeared, and in general the bowl has begun to look somehow newer, or something. I realized that cola really cleans the toilet from many contaminants. Although, to be honest, as it turned out later, it can not wash everything. But on the other hand, it does not contain chlorine, hydrochloric acid and other hazardous substances.

Can cola clean the toilet

The history of the creation of the drink began in the distant 1886. Manufacturers carefully concealed from competitors the components used in Coca-Cola soda. It was not difficult for modern experts to find out the chemical composition of the drink.

The composition of the Coca-Cola drink, in addition to purified water and sugar, includes the following chemicals:

  • phosphoric acid, acting as an acidity regulator;
  • carbon dioxide as a preservative;
  • lemon acid;
  • caramel;
  • flavors;
  • caffeine.

Coca-Cola has a mild acidic composition, so it does not harm earthenware surfaces. Carbon dioxide and phosphoric acid do an excellent job of removing pollution.

Citric acid effectively fights against persistent limescale, enhancing the action of the main components.

The accidentally discovered ability of the drink made it a popular remedy in the household. Washing the toilet with Coca-Cola is quick and easy.

Important! With the help of Cola, you can only wash those areas that are above the water. Water reduces the concentration of acids, which makes the product almost helpless against plaque.

Tips

  • As noted above, any other carbonated drink can be just as effective as Coca-Cola due to its carbon dioxide content. Soda water may be the best cleaner since it doesn't leave a sweet residue behind.
  • It may not work for oil stains as proven in the show. Mythbusters . Soda cleans only mineral stains.
  • The acids contained in Coca-Cola do not make it dangerous to consume. Orange juice, for example, is much more acidic.
  • If you do not live alone, warn household members about your actions in advance. Otherwise, they may think that you forgot to flush the water and will flush it for you, thwarting all your altruistic attempts to clean the toilet.

Can be cleaned with a toilet brush.

If the toilet is heavily soiled, you may need to clean the stains with a toilet brush before proceeding to the next step.

Rinse off the water.

The phosphoric acid contained in Coca-Cola should dissolve at least part of the limescale.

If you can’t completely clean the toilet, try some traditional remedies.

Although Coca-Cola washes away the dirt and plaque accumulated in the toilet, it is still not the most effective remedy. The sugar in Coca-Cola can make the toilet sticky and create a favorable environment for bacteria. Here are a few more natural remedies you can try.

  • Try mixing 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda (or 2 teaspoons sodium pyroborate) in 2 liters of water. Let the mixture brew and pour into the toilet, scrub with a toilet brush and wait an hour before flushing.
  • To fight mold, try mixing one part hydrogen peroxide to two parts water in a household spray bottle. Spray only the moldy areas, wait an hour and rub until the mold is gone.
  • For another all-purpose cleaner, try mixing two parts sodium pyroborate with one part lemon juice. Apply to the toilet, leave for an hour and then wipe off the residue.

Tips

  • It is phosphoric acid that cleans the toilet, so you can use just sparkling water, in addition, it does not contain sugar, so it may work even better.
  • This remedy may not work on oily stains, as has been proven by the MythBusters. It removes only mineral deposits.
  • Open a bottle or can of cola. You don't need a lot of Coca to clean the toilet. You need about 1.5-2 cups. Coca Cola contains phosphoric and carboxylic acids, and they help in cleaning the toilet. Diet Coke works the same way, as it also contains carbon dioxide. Essentially, this means that you can use any cheap cola substitute.
  • Pour Cola over the edge of the toilet bowl. Don't miss a single spot inside the toilet. Let each speck be well soaked in Coca. To get under the rim of the toilet, it is best to take an old rag and soak it well in Cola. So it will be easier for you to get to hard-to-reach places. If you are afraid to get your hands dirty, then pour Coca into a spray bottle and spray it on the toilet bowl from it.
  • Now we have to wait. There must be a reaction between acids and stains, and this takes time. It's best to wait about an hour. This is quite difficult, especially if you have small children. Therefore, we advise you to fill the toilet at night.
  • Over time, the acids will corrode the stains and they will slowly start to slide down. Now press the flush button. Split stains will be washed off, at least partially. Rub the rest with a brush.
  • Now you can see for yourself how well Coca Cola helps in cleaning the toilet. But unfortunately, it cannot cope with stains below the water level in the toilet bowl. How to deal with these spots, we will write in the next article.

Possible harm

Coca-Cola, like any soda, has a lot of sugar. Glucose will remain inside the toilet after cleaning and will create a breeding ground for bacteria and other microorganisms.This is the only harm that cola can do to plumbing. To eliminate unpleasant consequences, you can do the following:

  • treat the toilet after cleaning with an antibacterial drug;
  • just buy a drink with a sweetener.

Limescale, urinary stone and other complex toilet bowl contaminations are perfectly handled by any carbonated drinks. In addition to the cheapest - they have the least carbonic acid. There is currently no direct evidence that cola is really the most effective. If desired, it can be replaced with Fanta, Sprite, or any other soda from a comparable price category. These drinks are great for cleaning plumbing.

Steps

  1. Take one or two glasses of cola. Open a bottle or can of cola. You won't need much to clean your toilet. 1.5 cups should be enough.

  2. Pour Coke into the toilet bowl. Pour Coca-Cola around the bowl. Let it flow over the spots. Make sure you cover all the stains with cola: there should be a thin layer of cola on the stains.

    For stubborn stains, try removing them by hand with a cloth soaked in Coke. You can also use a spray bottle filled with Coke if you don't want to get your hands dirty.

  3. Let the cola settle. The key point is patience. The longer you leave the cola on, the more likely you are to let it take the stains out. Leave the cola in the bowl for at least an hour.

    For best results, leave cola overnight.

  4. Rinse off the water. Under the influence of cola, the stains will slowly weaken. Now, turn off the water. Loose stains should (at least partially) be washed off with water.

  5. Repeat as needed. At this point, you can see how well the cola worked.Although Coke will usually remove most types of toilet stains, it cannot completely remove all stains. If desired, simply reapply a second layer of cola and repeat the process.

    If repeated use of cola does not remove stains, read the section below to learn how to remove particularly difficult stains in the toilet.

For stubborn stains

  1. Use a brush. A good old-fashioned toilet scrubbing brush will help if a regular flush doesn't get the stains out. The mechanical action of a brush (or similar material) will help loosen and remove stubborn stains from the sides of the bowl after you've washed them with cola. If you're squeamish, wear gloves, and be sure to wash your hands after cleaning.

    • For best results, wipe before and after using Coke. In other words:
    • Open the cup and clean the stains with a brush
    • Pour up a Coke
    • Leave for a while
    • Go over the brush again and wash off the stains with water
  2. Usually chemical reactions occur much faster at high temperatures. The acidic reactions that allow cola to remove stains are no exception. For tough stains, try warming the cola before use. It doesn't need to be boiled, but it should be hot for best results (but be careful when handling hot Coke).

    • Never heat a soda or similar liquid in a sealed or metal container. This can lead to dangerous splashes of hot fluid. Instead, pour the liquid into a special microwave-safe container (such as a glass-ceramic container) and then just heat it up.
    • The hot cola will sizzle more than usual, so you may want to wear gloves to avoid splashing your skin.
  3. Use Coca-Cola along with other cleaning products. Although cola removes many stains, it is not the most effective remedy. For very difficult stains, you can try combining it with other cleaning methods. Here are some other cleaning methods you can try:

    • Try mixing 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda (or 2 teaspoons borax) in a 2 quart jug of water. Apply the mixture to the toilet bowl, wipe and set aside for an hour before flushing. If necessary, finish cleaning with Coke.
    • To fight mold, try mixing one part hydrogen peroxide with two parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the moldy surface, let it sit for at least one hour, and wipe until the mold has dissolved. Use Coke to remove any residual stains or scale around the moldy area.
    • Try mixing borax, citric acid, and cola in a 2:1:1 ratio for another all-purpose cleaner. Apply the mixture to the toilet bowl, leave for an hour, then flush.
  4. Know when Coke is not the best choice. Cola is suitable for removing most of the stains that are commonly found in toilet bowls. However, it does not always work on rarer stains, so other solutions are sometimes needed. See below:

    • Cola is not suitable for removing oil, fat. For them, you're better off using dish soap or a strong acid like vinegar.
    • Cola does not kill germs. What's more, the sugary leftovers of ordinary Coca-Cola can become food for certain types of bacteria. Use soap, cleaning solutions, or alcohol-based disinfectants to kill germs.
    • Cola will not remove stains from ink, dyes, pigments. Alcohol and other chemicals will help you here.

Features of the drink as a cleaning agent

What happens if you pour Coca-Cola into the toilet

This drink has the following properties:

  • It contains phosphoric acid in small doses. It dissolves stubborn dirt. Therefore, it is often used in cleaning.
  • Removes rust well. Therefore, it is used to clean toilet bowls and its individual elements.
  • Eliminates odors and does not have to ventilate the room, as, for example, when using chlorine-containing detergents.

But it is important to remember that the carbonated drink contains a lot of glucose, which creates favorable conditions for the reproduction of bacteria. Therefore, treatment with antibacterial liquids is indispensable. The whole procedure is no different from ordinary cleaning with other detergents.

To remove contaminants, they take a can of cola, evenly distribute it over the inner surface of the toilet bowl and leave it for an hour and a half to start a chemical reaction

The whole procedure is no different from ordinary cleaning with other detergents. To remove contaminants, they take a can of cola, evenly distribute it over the inner surface of the toilet bowl and leave it for an hour and a half to start a chemical reaction.

But the drink is not suitable for removing greasy stains. Therefore, if there are such stains, they will have to be removed manually by more serious means.

Also, the use of Coca-Cola will not help to cope with the contamination of surfaces located under water.Therefore, before washing, remove as much water as possible.

Before cleaning, make sure that the tank does not leak and water does not get out of it into the bowl, because if liquid constantly flows, it will wash away the active substances and there will be no effect.

The longer the drink stays on the surface, the better the result. The reaction will be more successful if the soda is poured into the toilet all night or processed several times in a row.

To avoid damage to the surface, the procedure is carried out as follows:

First, all contaminants are completely removed. To do this, take a brush. Smooth movements remove plaque and other stains before applying cola. Brush wipe the dirtiest places.
After that, take a material that absorbs moisture well.

It is important that the liquid evenly covers the contaminated areas.
A piece of cloth or a sponge is dipped in Coca-Cola and placed on all areas where plaque has formed. To achieve a more pronounced effect, a little more drink is poured onto a rag. This must be done at least once every half an hour so that the rags do not dry out.

After that, the toilet lid is closed and left for 2 hours.
After the appointed period, the materials are removed, and the surface of the plumbing is poured abundantly with cool water or simply drained several times.

After the appointed period, the materials are removed, and the surface of the plumbing is poured abundantly with cool water or simply drained several times.

This is the fastest and safest surface treatment. But it will help little from ingrained dirt and rust, so it is better to resort to special products containing acids and alkalis in the composition.

Since there is contact with the toilet during processing, gloves should be worn, and after completion of the procedure, hands should be washed with antibacterial soap.

There is also a hot cleaning method. Due to the influence of high temperatures, the chemical reaction is enhanced. Therefore, the result in removing complex contaminants will be better. You don't need to boil cola. Just put the glass in the microwave and warm it up a little. But in the process of working with hot liquid, certain risks are possible.

Therefore, it is important to follow these rules:

In no case should liquids be heated in a hermetically sealed container, otherwise the container may explode.
The best option would be to use a special container for microwave ovens made of glass-ceramic

Although weak, but hot acids can cause deformation of the plastic.
It is important to protect your hands, as the heated cola will sizzle and foam. Do not use too hot liquid for processing, as the enamel will crack under the influence of sharp temperature fluctuations. It is impossible to use too hot liquid for processing, as under the influence of sharp temperature fluctuations the enamel cracks
